Hi and thank you for looking at my auction.  Up for bids is my 1992 Jamaica Yellow 5.7 (350ci) Formula Firebird hardtop.  I have owned this car for about three years and my family and I have thoroughly enjoyed it., but it is now time for someone else to enjoy it as much as we have.  I have described below the different aspects of this car.

Documentation - If you know are familiar with third gen Pontiacs, you already know that a Jamaica Yellow Formula is a tough car to find.  According to the compnine.com database, there were 11 Jamaica Yellow Formulas made with the 5.7 engine.  Nine were T-tops and two were hardtops.  This is one of the two.  I have the original build sheet that was with the car showing the code 52Q Jamaica Yellow paint, L98 5.7 liter engine and G80 posi-traction among other options when it was shipped.  I also have a copy of the original invoice from the GM archives and one trim sheet.  This car was a GM PEP program car that was charged to the Design Studio and shipped to the Pontiac Motor Engineering field fleet. It was built in September 1991 sold through GM Auction Sales in early 1992.  I also have the owners manual with original selling sales reps business card and a 1992 Pontiac full line catalog.  I also have various maintenance receipts and the contact information of two prior owners.  The CARFAX and AUTOCHECK are clean.  I have a clean Georgia title in hand.

Exterior - The exterior appears to be original, and as can be seen in the photos shows exceptionally well for 22 year old paint with very good shine.  The rear urethane aero spoiler has a few dime size spots of clear coat flaking and the urethane nose still has decent shine, but has faded a bit and there are marks on it and a tear on the left front corner. I have documented this in a photo. There are a few small spots where there is surface rust on the exterior.  I am a picky person and as a yardstick, when I purchased the car I had a quote from a local body shop to repair all of these areas for $500, but it looks good enough for cruising and local shows so I just never had it done.  The floor pans, shock towers and fender wells are clean with only surface rust where the primer/paint was sprayed thin on the underside from the factory.  I removed the front wheel well liners to inspect the fender/firewall/rocker panel areas as there is no rust.  I am probably over-emphasizing the spots on the exterior, but I just want to give the next owner an accurate representation.  I had a new windshield installed shortly after buying the car, as the original had a small crack in it.

Interior - The interior is exceptionally nice and clean and looks like a car with half the miles.  When I purchased the car, it had black seat covers on the front seats that appear to have been on the car its entire life.  The cloth on the front seats look very nice and the rear seats have had very little use.  The factory roll up rear security shade is present.  The factory carpet is very nice and the original GM mats are still present and in very good condition. The headliner is tight with no sags, the radio and cassette player work as they should.  The dash and console have no cracks. The A/C is ice cold, the rear hatch pull down works as do all the interior lights.

Engine and Drivetrain - The factory 5.7 liter engine starts up and runs great with no smoke or hesitation.  I had a new starter installed by an ASE repair shop last week as the old starter seemed to be getting tired and slow.  While it was there they checked the belts, hoses, alternator and battery and all were good.  The transmission shifts nicely with no hesitation on the shift points.  The car had an aftermarket Hawks exhaust on it when I purchased it and I had an entire factory N10 dual exhaust which I had put on the car in May of 2013.  It runs cool, never getting over 190, even in the summer with the A/C on in South Georgia.  The tires are Kumhos and have deep tread.  The factory black crosslace wheels (which were required with the 5.7 engine) are of nice driver quality and have great shine. The photo of the one wheel is representative of all four wheels.

In summary, this is a very rare, nicely documented third gen Pontiac that is a very popular one year only color, 5.7 liter engine, hardtop, and complete with under 100k miles.  This car is a nice driver as is and deserves to one day be disassembled and treated to a full restoration, which was my plan, but I have now decided to sell it to concentrate on other things in life.  This is a 7 day auction and has a reasonable reserve.  I require a $500 down payment via PAYPAL within 24 hours of auctions end.  The balance must be paid in full and cleared at my bank or paid with cash at time of pick up.  I will be glad to store the car at my home garage for a couple of weeks until shipping arrangements can be made.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me at 229-392-7111.  My name is Jason and thanks again for looking at my auction!

Porsche Sports Car Together Fest is a labor of many Porsche loves

Sat, Sep 17 2022

Over Labor Day Weekend, Porsche held its second annual Sports Car Together Fest (SCTF) at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. We happened to be nearby, so we swung by to check out an event we’d never heard of until a few weeks before. Reading about it on Porsche's U.S. web site made us think it would be something like Rennsport Reunion for the Midwest. Turns out SCTF is just as much of a different kind of fun. The fest Tom MooreÂ’s the man behind Dark Horse Motorsports, the motorsport consultant for Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) PR. "People love Rennsport Reunion, but thatÂ’s every three to four years," he explained. “We wanted to gather people on those off years, and we didn't want to just do a mini Rennsport, because thatÂ’s its own thing. WeÂ’ve maintained the motorsport history at Rennsport. Here [at SCTF], we're doing the current look at what Porsche racing is for." In this case, that means gathering what Moore called "our Porsche motorsport pyramid." ThatÂ’s the range of enthusiast drivers from novice to hotshoes trying to get to top-tier endurance racing, "[starting] with the progression from Porsche Club of America track days up to the top of the ladder of one-make racing in North America," the Carrera Cup North America, a series made up of nothing but the latest 500-horsepower 911 GT3 Cup cars.  The three days of racing action allowed almost any kind of Porsche owner interested in clipping apexes to compete around an Indianapolis Motor Speedway layout tweaked with an infield section. This year, that included ex-NASCAR star Jeff Gordon, coming out of retirement to reunite with his longtime NASCAR crew chief Ray Evernham for the top-class Cup races.  Evernham told us Gordon hasnÂ’t raced in five years and he hasnÂ’t been a crew chief in 22. On very short practice, Gordon finished in 14th in the Pro Class in the first Carrera Cup race of the weekend driving the #24 Hendrick Performance Group Porsche, and 11th in the second race. Afterward, he said, "I made a pass on the white flag lap. That made my whole weekend Â… I must say that yesterday, I thought ‘man, I am getting beat out hereÂ’ and I donÂ’t like that. If I am going to be in an environment like this, I want to be competitive. But today turned the corner for me. So, I hope I get to do another one day."  When we strolled the paddock after the event, exposed sheet metal proved "Rubbing is racing" is a thing in the Carrera Cup as well as NASCAR.

Junkyard Gem: 2001 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi

Sat, Jun 19 2021

The General's Pontiac Division sold Bonnevilles from 1958 through 2005, which turned out to be well over half of the marque's existence. Named after the Bonneville Salt Flats, some Bonnevilles were huge but pretty quick, others were slow-motion land yachts, and some were nearly indistinguishable from their Buick and Oldsmobile brethren. The final generation, sold for the 2000 through 2005 model years, were among the quickest and most distinctive-looking Bonnevilles ever built, but they arrived in showrooms at a time when the clock was ticking for the division's very survival. Today's Junkyard Gem is one of those cars, an '01 with the hot-rod SSEi package. The Bonneville SSEi first appeared in the 1992 model year, just a year after the Buick Park Avenue Ultra was the first of many GM cars to get the 3.8-liter Buick V6 with an Eaton supercharger bolted on top. Production of the Bonneville SSEi continued through the 2003 model year, after which the GXP version and its Cadillac Northstar V8 took over. The 2001 version of this engine made 240 horsepower, good for plenty of torque-steery fun. Could you get this car with a manual transmission? What do you think? Some cursory research indicates that 1970 was the last model year for a three-pedal Bonneville, and even those cars must be incredibly rare. This one looks to have been in nice shape when it arrived here, with the original manuals still in the glovebox. By 2006, the Bonneville was gone; four years later, Pontiac was gone. Woman Cleared In Fatal Car Wreck After GM Letter

Tue, Nov 25 2014

A Texas judge cleared a woman Monday for a car accident that killed her fiance in 2004, after General Motors acknowledged that her car would have been among millions being recalled for a problem that may have contributed to the death. Candice Anderson was driving a 2004 Saturn Ion when it suddenly veered off a road about 60 miles east of Dallas and slammed into a tree. Anderson, then 21, was severely injured when the car's air bags failed to deploy. Her 25-year-old fiance, Gene Erikson, who was a passenger, was killed. She later pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the wreck. But during a hearing Monday, State District Judge Teresa Drum expunged the conviction from her record, according to officials in the Van Zandt County court andAnderson's attorney, Bob Hilliard. In a letter given to the court ahead of the hearing, an attorney for the automaker confirmed that Anderson's Saturn would have been among 2.6 million GM vehicles recalled in February to address ignition switches that can slip out of the "run" position, causing the engines to stall and disabling power steering, brakes and air bags. Anderson's crash "is one in which the recall condition may have caused or contributed to the frontal air bag non-deployment in the accident," attorney Richard C. Godfrey wrote. Hilliard provided a copy of the letter to The Associated Press, and Godfrey confirmed its contents Monday. Anderson was initially charged with criminally negligent homicide because there was no clear explanation at the time why the wreck occurred, according to court documents from the case. She pleaded guilty to a letter charge in 2006, and was sentenced to five years' probation. She also was ordered to perform 260 hours of community service, pay court costs and cover the costs of Erikson's funeral. "GM knew this defect caused this death, yet instead of telling the truth watched silently as Candice was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter," Hilliard said Monday. "It took 10 years for GM to find its voice." In a separate statement issued by the company, GM said it "cooperated fully by providing technical information that was requested to make a decision in this matter." The carmaker also said the issue in Anderson's case was for local law enforcement and courts to consider. "That's why we took a neutral position on Ms. Anderson's case," the company's statement said. "It was appropriate for the court to determine the legal status of Ms.
