For sale - My 1986 Pontiac Firebird TransAm, 123, 535 miles. I am the original owner. It was originally purchased in Los Angeles, CA, and has only seen one winter after we moved here to Pittsburgh in 1993. Since 1996, it has only been driven about 100 miles per year, but I still keep it fully licensed, inspected and insured, and it is always garage-kept.
These cars are getting rarer to find, especially one that hasn't been hacked up or modded.
It has the LB9 VIN Code 'F' 305ci (5.0L) Tuned-port Injection engine, and a 4-speed 700R4 automatic transmission. It has relatively new Bridgestone Potenza tires on it, and is a very well maintained and mechanically sound car.
It has factory T-tops, and the correct and fully functional T-Top storage bag in back.
The car is Midnight Blue Metallic, and the rear spoiler is the correct vinyl-covered type. It has a few scratches, but otherwise is OK. The hood and rear hatch gas struts have been replaced and work just fine holding both the hood and rear hatch up.
No, it is not in showroom condition. Here is what it needs, although nothing prevents it from being a daily driver:
Seat covers - I can throw in the correct new seat covers for an additional $300.
The catalytic converter should be replaced.
The EGR temperature sensor needs to be replaced. I have the part, but no time to install is. Just a matter of pulling the upper intake plenum off, and it's easy to replace.
There are some very minor dings on the hood and LF fender, from something falling on the car.
The A/C does not blow cold air. Although it just needs a refill of R-12A refrigerant, you likely know it is difficult to come by and expensive. It should be converted over to R-134A, not that expensive to do, and will be fully functional after doing so.
Other than that, normal wear and tear. I also still have the original leather-covered steering wheel and shift handle, both of which need to be re-covered. They will be included, as will a Colgan Custom front end bra, and custom fitted lockable car cover.
I will also include the full GM Service Manual as well.
Please contact me if you are interested!!! I hate to see it go, because I always thought it would be my project car, but I've moved onto bigger and better things!!

This GTO-El Camino mashup is the muscle truck of our dreams
Fri, Aug 31 2018There were a hell of a lot of great muscle cars in the mid-1960s, from the baroque Dodges and Plymouths of the earlier part of the decade to the wild big boys like the Boss 429 and Olds 442 W30. Right in the middle of the decade, two of the most iconic of the bunch emerged — the Pontiac GTO and second-generation Chevy El Camino. And this one is a 1964 Chevy El Camino with the heart and face of its GTO cousin, and dubbed the El Chieftain GTO. It's currently for sale at RM Sotheby's Auburn auction, with no reserve status or estimate listed. This looks like a product that Pontiac could have sold at the time — its builder, Ron Lindeman, did an excellent job making it look like a factory product, right down to the taillight strakes inspired by the GTO. It's powered by a 389 — a Pontiac motor that was actually found in period GTOs, but sporting a single four-barrel instead of the sexy Tri-Power setup. It is, however, equipped with a Hurst four-speed manual and the grille badge to prove it to bystanders. Even the interior is made up to look like a GTO. We wish there was more of a description of the build in the listing, but if you love it, do us one better and buy the thing and invite us to poke around it. We are very much in love with this muscle-truck mashup. Drive plays Smokey, Bandit with turbo Trans Am
Sun, Jun 28 2015The modern trend for powertrains can be summed up with the simple maxim: cut displacement and add forced induction. Whether you are looking at the just-introduced 2016 Chevrolet Cruze or a BMW M3, this adage holds true. However, Pontiac's attempt at the idea goes all the way back in 1980 with the Firebird Trans Am and its turbocharged 4.9-liter V8. Drive's Mike Musto takes out a 1981 example to explain what makes this largely forgotten muscle car so special, and it certainly isn't performance. While a 4.9-liter V8 might sound like a lot in the modern world, keep in mind that only few years before the second-generation Trans Am was available with up to a staggering 7.5-liters of displacement. Turbocharging of road cars in the early '80s was quite archaic by today's standards, and the Firebird only managed around 200 horsepower with this mill. Without much go, the turbo Trans Am made up for a lack of power with lots of show. As Musto points out, the famous flaming chicken adorns practically every surface you can see on the coupe, and boost lights on the hood illuminate when the turbo is spinning. Musto still finds a lot to like about the turbo Trans Am. He even calls it "Burt Reynolds as an automobile." Find out why the coupe is so special in this entertaining clip.
Hurst Edition Trans Am proves the Screaming Chicken will rise from the ashes
Wed, 31 Oct 2012It seems the Pontiac Trans Am steadfastly refuses to die. Ever since Chevrolet was granted a retrofied Camaro to compete with the Ford Mustang, Pontiac lovers have lamented the loss of this 1970s icon. And, looking at the Hurst Edition from Trans Am Depot, shown here at the 2012 SEMA Show, may explain what all the fuss is about.
It's not going to appeal to everyone's muscle-car tastes, but there's certainly room for a brash-and-bold black-and-gold Special Edition in many a Trans Am lover's garage. After all, if you want the keys to a custom pony car, you'll certainly get noticed in this one. If this scheme isn't your bag,, you can alternatively order your Hurst Edition in white and gold or silver and black. Oh, and don't forget a color-coordinated Screaming Chicken on the hood.
No matter which way you choose to go, your inner Burt Reynolds will appreciate the Eibach suspension kit, forged wheels with Pirelli PZero tires, functional shaker hood, fender air extractors, rear spoiler and, of course, a Hurst shifter inside. The interior is emblazoned with all manner of special touches, including a Hurst dash plate and T/A stitching on the Katzkin two-tone leather seats.
