Hello

I am selling my 1979 Formula Firebird Clone. Guess some would call it a restomod, however the car was made to look original right down to the 1977 Formula stripes, 1974 455 Super Duty spec motor, 1977 Formula Orbit stripes etc. I built this car from the ground up and have over 300 hours in it. So here goes the description.

I am the third owner, and have watched this car since 1984. In 1988 the 301 engine locked up and it sat on a street by my families house. It was a factory Zeebart seal job when it was sold new at a local dealership. The car had zero rust which you rarely see. The car was factory silver but was changed to black base coat clear coat back then. I watched the car change hands three time to friends of mine who had hopes of restoring it someday (the title was never transferred by any of them). It was stored inside most of its life from garage to garage.

I finally had chance to purchase the car a few years back and so began the restoration..........The car was stripped, the entire drivetrain including the rear thrown away. The interior was completely removed for restore. The shell was then sent out for strip and paint (absolutely no rust). Upon stripping the drivers door was found to have light bondo in it from a deep scratch. We skinned it. The car was stripped due to clear peeling. It was then painted in base clear (jams, engine compartment and trunk included). I then spent numerous hours wet sanding and buffing the car out. The pictures tell no lies, as there was even dust on it as I was taking the pics. I then floated on Pheonix Graphis stripes for a 1977 Formula. I chose the Orbit scheme that was on the GTO's. Flawless install, super straight no air bubbles. Brand new wheel package included custom offset rear PMD's, approx 10 inches wide tucked perfectly under the quarters with 255/6015 BFG,s. The front PMD,s are 7 inches wide with 225/70R15 BFG,s. Bobo tires are unacceptable.

The drivetrain took on a old school approach. A 1974 Pontaic Wagon motor built to super duty specs which I had in my 1974 Trans Am at one time was installed. Forged internals, steel crank, 9.85 to1 compression. Ported and polished heads (forgot casting number), Hydraulic cam by Butler Performance, roller rockers, modified 850cfm quadrajet, cast 4bble intake, Hooker Headers etc (this motor with a wide ratio 4spd M20 ran 12.8 in the quarter with 3.42 gears).

Exhaust is 2.5 inches into Flow Masters, and 2.5 inch Pontiac Hockey stick tailpipes like that of 1974 and earlier Firebird's. Underhood looks factory and unmodified other than the air cleaner for clearance and MT valve covers to clear the roller rockers. The AC system was the only thing saved and reinstalled. All brackets for alternator and power steering are OEM, no cutting or rigging.

I then had a turbo 350 built up with all the good stuff including heavy duty spragg and 2900 stahl converter. The rear is a 10 bolt, all new including axles, trutrac posi, richmond 3.42's, bearings and seals.

The drivetrain is turn key, the choke horn modified so no choke. Can't say enough about how well this car runs and drives. Just roasts the tires with a touch of the pedal. Stops and handles amazingly, with no shakes and / or rattles.

The interior is for the most most all new. I recovered the seats, new carpet, new headliner, restored center console with plate, new inner door handles, door sill plates , rear packagae tray. Absolutely gorgeous original dash with no cracks. The interior is beatiful with all factory gauges working. No funky tach or gauges, again factory original look and operation.

Serious bidders only please. I will not release the reserve..................I can tell you however 10000.00 will not get this car. I believe the reserve is reasonable. You may see the car any time with an appointment. Thanks for looking 302-229-0844

GM expands headlight recall to 180k Buicks and Pontiacs

Thu, Aug 20 2015

General Motors is issuing an expanded headlight module recall to include 180,504 examples in North America of the 2005 Buick LaCrosse (2008 model year pictured above) and 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix. Specifically, the campaign affects 159,584 of them in the US and 20,920 in Canada. When the part fails, the vehicles' low beams can stop working either intermittently or permanently. "GM is unable to confirm any crashes, injuries or fatalities related to this condition," the company said in a statement, and there's currently no permanent repair for the problem. For now, dealers will replace the headlamp module with a new example of the same part. The automaker first announced this campaign in November 2014 when it affected 316,357 examples globally of the 2006-09 Buick LaCrosse; 2006-2007 Chevy TrailBlazer and TrailBlazer EXT; 2006-2007 GMC Envoy and 2006 GMC Envoy XL; 2006-2007 Buick Rainier; 2006-2008 Saab 9-7X; and 2006-08 Isuzu Ascender. Junkyard Gem: 1968 Pontiac Catalina sedan

Wed, Aug 14 2019

During the late 1960s, General Motors ruled the American car landscape, growing so dominant that the federal government considered antitrust action to break up the company. The General offered sporty Corvettes and muscular GTOs and rugged pickups and opulent Fleetwoods, sure, but the fat part of the sales numbers came from the bread-and-butter full-sized sedans and coupes, which boasted superior engineering and modern-looking styling; in 1967 alone, the Chevrolet Division moved 972,600 full-sized cars, and that's not even counting the 155,100 full-sized Chevy station wagons that year. Pontiac, Buick and Oldsmobile sold the same big cars with division-specific engines and bodywork, and they flew off the showroom floors. For 1968, the entry-level full-sized car from Pontiac was the Catalina, and I've found an example of the most affordable version of the most affordable big Pontiac for 1968, discarded in a northeastern Colorado wrecking yard about 50 miles south of Cheyenne, Wyoming. A '68 GM full-sized coupe, convertible, or even a four-door hardtop might be worth the cost and effort of a restoration, but a no-options base-trim-level post sedan with rust and plenty of body filler just won't get many takers these days. Like so many vehicles that sit outside for decades on the High Plains, this one is full of rodent nests. I wouldn't want to work on the interior of this car without a respirator and a lot of work with a shop-vac, because hantavirus is a significant danger in these parts. Alfred Sloan's plan to offer a stepladder of prestige for GM buyers, in which your first new car was a Chevrolet and you moved up through Pontiac, Oldsmobile, and Buick until you became sufficiently prosperous for Cadillac ownership, worked brilliantly for decades. In 1968, the Catalina was a notch above its Impala sibling on the Snob-O-Meter, with the sedan starting at $3,004 (about $22,600 in 2019 dollars). In fact, the V8-equipped 1968 Chevrolet Impala sedan listed at $3,033, and the Oldsmobile Delmont 88 went for $3,146, so the lines were beginning to blur between the relative positions of the lower-end GM divisions by this time. The base engine in the 1968 Catalina was a 400-cubic-inch (6.5 liter) V8 rated at 265 horsepower and enough torque to tow an aircraft carrier.

Junkyard Gem: 2001 Pontiac Aztek

Tue, Jul 11 2017

Ah, the Pontiac Aztek. Everyone laughs at the Aztek ... except, apparently, for Coloradans who like to go camping, bike riding, hiking, and all that outdoorsy stuff that folks do in the Centennial State. You'll see Azteks being driven, unironically and without shame, all over the place in the Denver region, and now plenty of them are showing up in the local wrecking yards. Here's a first-year-of-production example in its final campground. These minivans or crossovers (or however the experts finally decided to categorize them) had built-in air compressors, audio controls in the rear cargo area, and other features meant to enhance tailgating, camping, and other activities deemed central to Generation X's allegedly active lifestyle. You could even get an optional camping kit with a tent that attached to the rear of the Aztek. So, it was a General Motors minivan-like vehicle, cousin of the weird-looking Dustbusters of the 1990s, with lots of useful features for those who did more than just commute to work and drop off kids at school. Unfortunately for GM, the Aztek was staggeringly ugly, and Generation Xers were too damned broke to buy new cars in 2001, anyway. I see plenty of them in Denver-area wrecking yards now, along with their slightly-less-offensive-looking Buick Rendezvous siblings, and so I decided to document one before they're all gone.
