I've got a 1979 pontiac firebird project. a previous owner turned it into an early 70's formula clone..sort of?.. The body is decent, whoever did the bodywork did a halfway decent job of it. the engine compartment has been cleaned up and painted..also a halfway decent job. The carpet is nice, inner door, and interior panels are fair. The racing buckets are included in the auction. The trunk pan is rusted pretty bad, someone cut half of it out and mounted a plastic fuel cell in there, the floors..are so-so I poked my head under and looked, I did see surface rust, but no big rotten holes . I would assume they need replacing if you're doing a restoration..but they are passable, or patchable enough for a drag car, or rat rod type project.  The subframes seem pretty solidly attached to the floors still. The nose is probably the most valuable part of the car, and is in fair condition, however..the formula hood...some clown cut a 14" hole in the center of it. It looks like it would be centered right for a tall aircleaner to stick up through..if thats your thing.. the hood also doesn't match the fenders exactly..it needs to be a 3/4 to an inch longer for proper  body lines.

It has factory aluminum snowflake mags, but the tires are garbage. they'll hold air long enough for you to load it, and move it around. the car rolls, and steers fine, but has absolutely no brakes. inside the trunk are most of the body pieces, spoilers, grills, fender vents, and flares. along with some of the window trim. no motor, or tranny. The instrument panel is missing, along with the console, there is a pretty rough looking aftermarket shifter in the car though. You'll need a new windshield, but the rest of the glass is good.
She's almost a basket case as far as full restoration possibilities, but this would be cheap and easy to go drag racing. Or just making noise cruising the streets. There's a Holley electric fuel pump mounted under the trunk..no Idea whether it's any good or not..consider it a bonus if it works..lol
I'm setting the reserve real low on this. And shipping is full responsibility of THE BUYER. I will help air up the tires, and move the car to a wide open area for easy pickup. Bring a winch or help to push it onto your trailer. $200 deposit due at end of auction PAYPAL ONLY, Full payment within 10 days. payment can be paypal, cash, or GOOD CHECK. if you pay with a check, i'll hold the title until the check clears.

Jay Leno tries out a 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge that looks factory fresh

Tue, Jan 31 2017

The latest machine to show up on Jay Leno's Garage is arguably the most iconic Pontiac GTO, the 1970 Judge. The example here is a radically red model and features all of the nifty Judge features, such as the mega-size rear wing, hood-mounted tachometer, and ram air hood scoop. The latter of which had a panel in the hood that would open up at full throttle to let in all that cool air from outside. The car is owned by the Wade Kawasaki, president of Coker Tires, a company that specializes in reproducing classic tires. Not surprisingly, his GTO features a set of the company's Firestone Wide Oval tires. That particular tire would have come with the car originally, but these new versions are built like modern radial tires, rather than the slippery bias-ply originals. The tires are indicative of how Kawasaki restored the rest of his Judge. Everything has been taken back to factory-spec. It has a stock, 400-cubic inch V8 that makes a supposedly underrated 366 horsepower, and it's complete with the chrome valve covers and foam intake seal. The tires are accompanied by exact replica GTO Judge wheels. The car even has the true, original interior. Somehow, the upholstery, dash, and other interior components survived in excellent condition. Check out the video above for more details on this flashy muscle car, as well as some reminiscing about the "good ol' days," and some history on the origins of the car's name. Related Video:

MotorWeek's 80's GM muscle coupe roundup includes Regal GN and Monte Carlo SS

Thu, Jan 29 2015

Even with just four brands in the family, General Motors still represents a performance powerhouse. Between the Chevrolet Corvette Z06, Camaro Z/28, Cadillac CTS-V and ATS-V, The General can still deliver plenty of thrills. The 1980s, though, saw the brand go even crazier with performance. While the Camaro and Corvette were still around back in the day, GM had a number of other interesting performance offerings. The Bowtie was complemented by the long-deceased Monte Carlo SS, while the now-defunct Pontiac and Oldsmobile offered the Grand Prix and thumping 442, respectively. And Buick, which isn't short on performance with its Regal GS and Verano Turbo, offered a much more serious vehicle, in the form of the Grand National (not to mention the Darth Vader-spec GNX). MotorWeek, in its hugely entertaining retro flashbacks, looks back on these three long-lost GM performance icons, and it's just as good as you might expect. Junkyard Gem: 1992 Pontiac Firebird

Mon, Dec 18 2023

Last spring, this series featured a 1992 Chevrolet Camaro RS in a Northern California junkyard, an example of the final model year for the highly successful third-generation GM F-Body. On a later visit to that yard, I spotted the Pontiac sibling to that car, a Firebird that was born the same year at the same Southern California factory. When the Chevrolet Division introduced the first Camaro as a 1967 model, the Pontiac Division got its own version of the F-Body called the Firebird. While the two cars were built on the same chassis and looked very similar, the first-generation Camaros got Chevrolet engines while their Firebird colleagues got Pontiac engines (including the innovative SOHC straight-six). The 1970-1981 second-generation Firebirds still had some Pontiac-only engines, but Chevrolet and Oldsmobile power crept under some hoods during that period. The third-generation Firebirds first appeared as 1982 models, and they drew from near-identical stockpiles of GM running gear (including the distinctly agricultural Iron Duke four-banger, which could be considered a Pontiac-derived engine). When the Camaro got the axe after 2002, the Firebird's neck was put on the same chopping block. When the Camaro returned for 2010, the Pontiac brand was sputtering to an agonized halt during its final year and there was no chance of the Firebird's return. This car is a fairly ordinary coupe, though it does have the mid-grade 205-horsepower 5.0-liter Chevrolet small-block V8 instead of the base 140-horse 3.1-liter V6. A 5.7-liter small-block was available as well. A five-speed manual transmission was base equipment, but few Americans wanted a three-pedal setup by the early 1990s. This car has the optional four-speed automatic. The MSRP with 5.0 engine, automatic transmission and air conditioning (which this car has) started at $14,304. That's about $31,868 in 2023 dollars. It was built at Van Nuys Assembly in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles County. By the dawn of the 1990s, the Camaros and Firebirds made at Van Nuys Assembly had become known as the worst-built GM cars made in North America, and the plant was shut down forever soon after this car was built. Today, a shopping mall lives where the factory once stood. This car managed to drive more than 150,000 miles during its life, so it beat the odds. The thrid-gen F-Body was pretty antiquated by the early 1990s, but the fourth-gen cars handled better and looked up-to-date for the era.
