1978 Trans-am 400 4 Speed Bandit (restoration In Progress) on 2040-cars
Roanoke, Virginia, United States
THANKS FOR LOOKING AT MY TRANS AM AUCTION. THIS CAR IS ALL ORIGINAL AND VERY SOLID. I OWN A BODY SHOP HERE IN VIRGINIA AND JUST FINISHED A COMPLETE REPAINT. THIS INCLUDED STRIPPING THE CAR TO BARE METAL AND REPAIRING ANY PROBLEM AREAS, EPOXY PRIMERING, 2K PRIMERING, BLOCKING AND FINALLY FINISHING UP WITH A BASE CLEAR PAINT JOB. I WOULD RECOMMEND FINISHING THE CAR WITH TRIZACT SANDING AND BUFFING. THE CAR HAS MINOR DIE BACK THAT COMES WITH ANY MULTPLE LAYERS OF MATERIAL. ( I COULD HAVE IT DONE IF WINNING BIDDER WOULD LIKE TO PAY THE DIFFERENCE ) I HAVE TAKEN THIS RESTORATION TO A POINT THAT ANYBODY COULD FINISH AT HOME. THE EXPENSIVE PART THAT MOST PEOPLE CONTRACT OUT IS DONE. THE CAR WILL NEED ALL OF THE CORRECT EXTERIOR DECALS, STRIPING, RUBBER SEALS, TIRES, ONE RIM WITH TRIM RING AND CENTER CAP AND A PARTIAL TO FULL INTERIOR KIT .THE CAR WILL COME WITH THE ORIGINAL 400 ENGINE. THIS ENGINE WILL NEED A COMPLETE REBUILD. THE 400 THAT IS CURRENTLY IN THE CAR IS BELEIVED TO BE OUT OF A LATE 76 EARLY 77 TRANS AM. THIS ENGINE DOES HAVE A "NOISE " KNOCK WHEN IT RUNS, THE OIL PRESURE IS GREAT. ITEMS THAT ARE NEW THAT I INSTALLED INCLUDE PLUGS, INTAKE AND VALVE COVER GASKETS, ALTERNATOR, WATER PUMP AND CARBURATOR KIT. I AM SURE THAT YOU MAY FIND OTHER THINGS THAT YOU FEEL THE ENGINE IN THE CAR MIGHT NEED. THIS IS AN ALL ORIGINAL CAR RIGHT DOWN TO THE SOLID EXHAUST WHICH STILL HAS ITS ORIGINAL CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THE UNDERSIDE IS VERY SOLID WITH A DIME SIZE RUST SPOT AROUND THE CONVERTER, THIS CAR IS AVAILABLE FOR SALE LOCALLY AND OTHER AREAS, SO I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO END THE AUCTION EARLY IF NECESSARY. I WOULD ENCOURAGE INTERESTED PARTIES TO COME BY TO THE SHOP FOR AN INSPECTION. I AM IN VIRGINIA, SO PLEASE RESPECT THE TIME DIFFERENCE IF YOU ARE CALLING FROM A DIFFERENT TIME ZONE. PLEASE CALL MIKE FOR QUESTIONS. THANKS 540 353-2269

German prosecutors have recorded calls between VW bigwigs talking dieselgate
Thu, Mar 21 2019It's barely possible to believe how poorly Volkswagen continues to handle dieselgate. Depending on which day you catch the news, the German carmaker embodies the corporate venality of "Michael Clayton," the comic blundering of the Coen Brothers' "Burn After Reading," and the every-man-for-himself vengeance of "Reservoir Dogs." Today is Tarantino day, with news that German prosecutors have recordings of phone calls between former Audi and Porsche development boss Wolfgang Hatz, ex-Volkswagen Group executive Matthias Muller, and current Porsche executives Oliver Blume and Michael Steiner. Hatz made the calls to the trio in November 2015, two months after Volkswagen admitted its diesel-particulate sins to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Hatz was still employed at the time, and in his company car. Who recorded the calls? His wife. Hatz and his missus apparently saw the storm coming and started stacking defenses early. Hatz's wife, who can be heard encouraging Hatz during at least one call, sent the recordings to Hatz's attorney from her mobile phone. According to a Google translation of the German newspaper Handelsblatt's report, she included the note, "Here is a very long, but quite informative conversation on the current situation with useful formulations." The report in Handelsblatt said that in Germany it is generally "not allowed" to record a conversation and pass it on to a third party. We don't know how the authorities will handle this matter, since prosecutors found the recordings in e-mail attachments on Mrs. Hatz's mobile phone. Remember, when the diesel scandal broke, VW spent months saying that only a small number of low-level personnel were behind it, and all of the higher-ups had been blindsided. Ex-CEO Martin Winterkorn claimed to be "stunned that misconduct on such a scale was possible in the Volkswagen Group." Winterkorn successor Matthias Muller said, "according to current information, a few developers interfered in the engine management." Former VW USA honcho Michael Horn told a congressional committee that "a couple of software engineers" programmed the software for reasons no one could understand. In the recorded conversations, Hatz apparently called Muller to find out how VW planned to treat him.
Official USPS Muscle Cars stamps coming to a mailbox near you
Thu, 21 Feb 2013As much as our digital lives have cut down on our trips to the post office, there are still times that sending "snail mail" is necessary. With us car lovers in mind and philately in their hearts, the good folks at the United States Postal Service will introduce a new stamp design called "Muscle Cars" starting on February 22.
Designed by artist Tom Fritz, the new collection of stamps consist of five classic muscle cars: 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1966 Pontiac GTO and 1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda. In addition to just the stamps, the USPS is also commemorating the new series with plenty of collectable memorabilia. Previous car-related stamps include 50s Sporty Cars from 2005 and 50s Fins and Chrome from 2008.
General Lee takes on Bandit T/A in classic Hollywood car showdown [w/poll]
Fri, 26 Aug 2011You don't have to be born in the 1960s or 1970s to be able to recognize the General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard and the Pontiac Trans Am from Smokey and the Bandit. These old school four-wheeled stars seem to transcend demographics thanks to the miles of film that show the orange 1969 Dodge Charger and the jet-black 1977 Pontiac Trans Am performing seemingly impossible stunts.
The folks at Hot Rod magazine are obviously hip to this fact, and they put together a fun video in tribute of the instantly recognizable duo. Hit the jump to watch on as Sam Young and James Smith replace Bo Duke and The Bandit for a bit of dirt-road shenanigans in a pair of otherwise well cared for classics. We're not so sure we'd call it the best chase scene ever, but it sure looks like a lot of fun.
More importantly, which of these two cars would you rather own? Have your say in our poll below.
