THIS IS A NUMBERS MATCHING "SPECIAL EDITION" Y82 TRANS AM, FULLY RESTORED TO BETTER THAN SHOWROOM NEW. IT IS ABOUT 90% ORIGINAL, AND BY ORIGINAL I MEAN PARTS INSTALLED FROM THE FACTORY ON THIS CAR. I HAVE ORIGINAL BUILD SHEET, ALSO HAVE PHS DOCUMENTATION.
THE BODY: started as a rust free original paint original decal car, was completely taken apart, main body was put on rotisserie and all loose body panels were taken for complete media blasting, then all parts were shot in ppg dp90 epoxy sealer, bottom of body got painted with ppg dcc 9700 black gloss. Entire body was skim coated with body glazing putty then sanded smooth. Then entire body shot in ppg k93 tintable primer tinted in black. Block sanded in 150 grit then reprimed blocked in 220, reprimed, blocked in 320, primed and wet sanded in 800 grit. Then completely disassembled all backsides, and jams cut in. Entire car and parts shot in PPG dbu9700 base coat. Then shot in PPG 2021 clear 4 coats then wet sanded 1000 grit then 2 more coats. Wet sanded 2500 and 3000 then buffed to an amazing finish as you will see in the pictures. The undercarriage and floorbaord received the same attention as the rest of the body. This shaker scoop rear finned area that most people paint completely silver has just the tips of the fins painted silver just like factory. If you look at the bottom of the car you can see the factory drainplugs in their entirety and you can still read numbers stamped into plugs. Received all new decals directly from Phoenix Graphix. Just look at the depth and reflection of this awesome paint job.
SUSPENSION AND SUBFRAME: Completely blasted also. Shot in dp90 and then painted in a custom charcoal metallic. You can still read clearly the part numbers stamped in control arms, and subframe. Control arms received, new energy suspension bushings, new Moog ball joints, original coil springs blasted and painted, front suspension reassembled, original 1 1/4 inch front sway bar powdercoated along with 5/8 rear sway bar. Front received new bushings and endlinks, rear received all new bushings also. Rear springs blasted, and repainted also, still have original leaf spring end pads. (anti-squeak pads). Received new energy suspension bushings also.
REAR END: Original numbers matching, 3.23 posi, completely disassembled, housing acid washed, posi carrier disassembled, checked and reassembled, received new carrier bearings and races. Along with pinion bearings and races, with new national seal. New axle bearings installed in housing along with new national seals. Then entire rearend housing painted to match subframe.
BRAKES: All new brake pads and shoes, calipers, wheel cylinders, brake hardware. New Canadian made drums and rotors, not the cheap Chinese stuff. Inline tube, brake lines and hoses, new gm repop plated brake booster and new master cylinder.
FUEL SYSTEM: Original fuel lines on body. New Canadian gas tank, new Delco fuel pump, original gas cap still installed. Has replacement fuel line from fuel pump to carb.
EXHAUST: Custom dual stainless exhaust system. Magnaflow stainless transverse "original style hangs behind rear end like original". This is a dual in-dual out using its original muffler hangers "not available in reproduction", mandrel bent tailpipes to factory style tips. This is a sweet sounding mellow-toned exhaust. Still has original exhaust manifolds.
ENGINE: Original numbers matching engine bored .030 with TRW forged pistons. Crank cut .010 nitrided and polished. Rods shot peened and received ARP bolts. Has new polygraphite main rear rope seal from butler performance. Original cylinder heads 6x-4 (L78 engine) received 3 angle valve job. Received an xe252 comp cam kit. "cam, lifters, springs". Spring pressures were set. New timing set, pushrods, oil pump, etc. Original intake, original numbers matching carb sits atop, completely rebuilt, but it does have a Delco electric choke added to it. Still has original rebuilt alternator, distributor, has new Delco wires. Has new water pump, new radiator and number hoses. Has original battery cables that you can still read the numbers on. Along with a new Delco battery. Engine is painted the correct Blue Poly, not the usual incorrect Corporate Blue from a rattle can that most people think is correct.
TRANS: Completely rebuilt, has original torque converter.
DRIVESHAFT: Completely 100% original still has original u-joints with Saginaw S-logo in caps.
WIRING: Completely original, except for added wire to electric choke.
GLASS: Original side and rear glass, new windshield.
TRUNK: Sporting replacement trunk mat with sound deadener, factory jack and base still inside. With the B F Goodrich space saver spare. But it is missing the inflator. Trunk still has the original taillight wiring holding clips that are always missing out of every car. Trunk repainted with factory style spatter paint. Then cleared.
UNDER HOOD: Original fan, shroud, pullies, p/s pump, and all brackets. Original air cleaner along with the original cloth duct work that goes to the fender inlet. (Not the cheap plastic duct work that everybody uses that comes from China). Has all original a/c equipment with new o-rings, vacuum was pulled and allowed to sit for 24 hrs to check hold before charging with genuine R-12 freon. This makes for an extremely cold a/c unit. Not the kinda cold 134a conversion. Has new old replacement stock copper and brass heater core. Not cheap $20 aluminum heater core that usually lasts a year before starting to leak. New hood insulation.
LIGHTING: headlights are all new Sylvania silverstar capsules. Original marker lights, parking lights, and taillights just cleaned and still look new. Interior dome light is new. Has factory equipped trunk light.
WEATHER-STRIPPING: All new metro supersoft original style weather strip. Soft like original latex type. Has nos outer window felts. Original cowl to hood weatherstrip still installed.
INTERIOR: 90% original. Completely original rare lombardy cloth seat upholstery (19B1). Original seatbelts, which still have the always missing shoulder strap plastic stops. New carpet. Has all original sound deadener under carpet and under rear seats and package tray, this car was originally ordered with extra sound deadener package. Has new package tray. Has new foam and felt headliner, has original sun visors with the sticker for the catalytic converter still installed. Original front and rear door panels, had vinyl replaced on uppers to factory spec because of small slice about 1/2 inch long on drivers. Has original window cranks in excellent condition, replaced inner door handle cups, has nos gm floor mats, not repop version. Has new trim for around t-top opening. Original parts: radio, dash bezel, and gauges with awesome coloring, shift knob and button, horn button. Has new shift bezel, new radio knobs. New shift cable. New sill plates.
WHEELS: Original 7" western wheels have refinished by Detroit Vintage Wheel. They completely blasted them, powdercoated them gold, remachined faces, then clear powdercoated and look better than new. I recently purchased 4 new 8" wheels from Year One and new BFGoodrich RWL tires, I like the look of the 8" better than the 7" originals. Both sets of tires and wheels go with the car. Includes new caps and lugnuts.
MISC: Speedo cable original, says Delco spark plug division on nut, in excellent condition. Wiper blades replaced with original style. Dash speaker original, sounds so-so. Rear speakers Delco 10 ohm circa 1970's with enclosures.

Junkyard Gem: 1992 Pontiac Sunbird convertible, with extremely rad W25 Appearance Package
Sun, Dec 22 2019Radwood has sparked a revival in the appreciation of goofy 1980s and 1980s automotive fashions, from neon-colored tape stripes to excessive TURBO badging to ads featuring horrifying Nagel-style women with radio faceplates instead of eyes. I see a lot of discarded cars that would have been ideal to bring to Radwood, and today's Junkyard Gem is even radder than, say, a purple Mercury Tracer Trio or a teal Chevy Beretta GT or even the elusive Dodge Daytona IROC R/T (yes, there were IROC Daytonas): a genuine Pontiac Sunbird SE convertible with the W25 Appearance Package and Bright White Star wheels. The W25 package got you a white Sunbird with kicky script badging, white wheels, and — if you opted for the optional 3.1-liter V6 — these candy-cane-influenced red-and-white displacement badges on the fenders. Now this is rad! The white interior got dirty fast, especially if the owner left the convertible top down, and these wheels were tough to keep clean for more than a few hours. This one appears to have spent many years sitting abandoned with the top down, judging by the completely trashed interior. The base engine for 1992 was the good old Cavalier four-banger, complete with 111 horsepower. This 3.1-liter engine made a respectable-for-1992 140 horses, for plenty of torque-steery, tire-squealy fun. As a J-Body car, the Sunbird was a sibling to the Chevrolet Cavalier in 1992 (the J-based Cadillac Cimarron, Oldsmobile Firenza, and Buick Skyhawk departed before the end of the 1980s). Starting in 1994, the Pontiac Sunfire replaced the Sunbird, continuing in production all the way through the demise of the J platform in 2005. This content is hosted by a third party. Watch this garbage truck consume a Pontiac Grand Am
Wed, 15 May 2013When an old car or truck offers its dying breath in your driveway and you just don't have the financial or mechanical wherewithal to resuscitate it yet again, you traditionally have to go to the trouble of calling a flatbed or a tow truck to come haul it away. That usually helps to put a few bucks in your wallet and helps recycle some of the vehicle's parts, but the transaction doesn't seem as final or perversely satisfying as the dispatch service that this New Way Cobra Magnum garbage truck offers.
Okay, okay, so this refuse hauler isn't actually designed for this sort of thing, but it's oddly comforting to know that a sanitation truck can compact a hapless Pontiac Grand Am into oblivion. Next time, we won't feel so guilty about slipping that rusty charcoal grille onto the curb next to the cans on garbage day. Watch the carnage by scrolling below.
