1969 Pontiac FIREBIRD Convertible.

Great car, selling to reinvest into a larger project. A great car  cruise the coast in or take to the local shows.
Clean california title. Is a true california convertible. Does not have the original plates. The car was partially restored then garaged for several years until 9 months ago. I would say its about 95% restored. Just needs some little touches here and there. Overall it is a great driver car. We use it primarily in the weekends and events.

Has a YB coded 400ci motor from a 1970 Grand Prix. Runs and drives great.
Rare Rebuilt 2 barrel rochester carburetor, great on gas and not so loud. Was rebuilt by Rick Walker in El Cajon. These 2 barrels are no joke. plenty of power.
Hooker Headers
larger 3 core radiator
new high torque starter
new plugs and wires
New Battery
mallory ignition and coil
electronic fuel pump
TH350 automatic transmission
New Drive shaft spicer joints
New richmond gears 3.90 non posi 10 bolt
New 2.5" dual exhaust
Disc brakes front drum in the rear about a year old.
14" Rally wheels. Also included is a set of 15" Honey comb transam wheels powdercoated black cherry to match.

Paint is solid, perfect from 5'. has small scratches and a few small chips. (door jamb, by back window moldings and one by the rocker) was painted in a gorgeous black cherry with multiple pearlcoats. Goregeous color and shine. Painted in 2006 and always been garaged. almost always looks black at first. Has 74 transam bullet mirrors. Car has newer oem body mounts and all the bushings and balljoints have been replaced. The front is lowered 2" by the coils and the rear has air shocks. The frame and undercarriage have been removed and then epoxy rust coated.
New black vinyl top with glass back window. new rubbers and weatherstripping throughout the car. new interior done in black (carpet, padding, seat covers, seat pads, door panels, dash pad, door sills, dash guage cluster. Handles and window knobs) Originally blue. I have 2 dashes, neither are perfect. can make one perfect one or install a newer radio into the current one. Currently has no radio but the metal is uncut.  Floor boards are solid. Has had a patch repair done on the front drivers side but is solid and done correctly.

Also has a new windshield, corner moldings, tail lamp harness, window felts, Trunk Pads, Emblems and Moldings, bumpers, headlamps, grilles.
Also included is the stock rocker moldings (not installed).

Negatives
Car is very nice but not perfect. it needs a new Fuel float in the tank, and the speedo in the transmission needs to be changed to a smaller one. (car thinks its going faster than it is but it never bothered me) Both are cheap parts. The front fenders and hood need to be aligned better. The fenders sit a little low in the front. Side reflectors or fog lights are installed but not wired. I removed the windshield wipers (Included but not installed) and the car needs a new rearview mirror. The glove box liner is included and in great shape but has never been reinstalled. The front and rear window moldings are in very good condition but not perfect.
Give me a call with any questions or to view. 619 277 2515 Derek. I am in Santee CA 92071.

Car is for sale locally and can be eneded early.
Car is being sold as is, please come and see this beautiful car if your unsure of bidding first.
I will be glad to assist in shipping and handling. cash, paypal or money transfers are accepted. Out of country buyers are ok.

Question of the Day: Most degraded car name?

Fri, May 27 2016

When Ford came up with a not-so-sporty version of the Pinto and slapped Mustang badges on it in 1974, that was a low point for the Mustang name. When Chrysler applied the venerable Town & Country name on perfectly functional but unglamorous minivans, it saddened many of us. But perhaps the biggest demotion for a once-proud model came when, in 1988, General Motors imported a misery-enhancing Daewoo from Korea and called it the Pontiac LeMans. The original Pontiac LeMans was a great-looking midsize car with fairly advanced (for the time) suspension design and engine options including potent V8s and a screaming overhead-cam straight-six. The Daewoo-based Pontiac LeMans was a cramped, shoddy hooptie that served only to ruin the LeMans name forever, while stealing sales from the Suzuki-based Chevrolet Sprint. Sure, using the once-respected Monterey name on the Mercurized Ford Freestar was bad, but Mercury didn't have long to live at that point. I say the downward spiral of the LeMans name was the most agonizing in automotive history. What do you think? Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. GM reintroduces Tripower name in the worst way possible

Wed, Aug 1 2018

The story of General Motors' use of the Tripower moniker begins way back in 1957, when Semon E. "Bunkie" Knudsen, then General Manager of GM's Pontiac division, directed his engineers to inject more performance into his brand's line of V8-powered automobiles. Fuel injection was an option, but hot rodders flocked instead to Tri-Power (marketed way back when with a hyphen), which grafted a trio of two-barrel Rochester carburetors onto a single intake manifold. A legend was born. And that legend was born of performance. At idle and when full power wasn't required, Pontiac's Tri-Power system used just the middle carburetor, which helped make the setup easier to tune. Depending on the year and model, either a vacuum system or a mechanical linkage opened up the two outer carbs, thereby switching from two barrels to six, and allowing the engine to take in more fuel and air. And it was an easy marketing win – six barrels is better than four barrels, right? Because performance! So, when news filtered in that GM has resurrected the Tripower name, those of us who grew up attending classic car shows and wrenching on old Pontiacs did a double-take. And then we all collectively sighed. Turns out that today's Tripower refers to a trio of fuel-saving measures that include cylinder deactivation, active thermal management, and intake valve lift control, according to Automotive News. And, at least for now, it applies to GM's line of fullsize trucks powered by a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. We're all for saving fuel whenever possible. And we have zero say in how any automaker chooses to market its products and technologies. But, we'll offer our two cents anyway: Relaunching a storied name from the past is fine. Relaunching a storied name from the past while completely overlooking the reasons the name got famous in the first place is only going to irritate the people who remember the name in the first place. Couldn't they just call this new technology package something else? Junkyard Gem: 1989 Pontiac 6000 STE AWD

Sun, Aug 1 2021

During the middle to late 1980s, General Motors made a big push to grab back some of the sales swiped by makers of European luxury machinery during the previous decade. Around the top of the prestige pyramid, there was the Turin/Hamtramck-built Cadillac Allante taking aim at the Mercedes-Benz 560SEC and the super high-tech Buick Reatta trying to seduce away BMW and Jaguar shoppers; even the Riviera offered a futuristic touchscreen computer sorely lacking in anything out of Stuttgart or Bavaria. The General had a plan to take on the smaller German sporty sedans, too, and Pontiac of the "We Build Excitement" era offered a midsize sedan packed with modern hardware at a great price: the 6000 STE. Here's one of the rarest 6000 STEs of them all, an all-wheel-drive-equipped '89 found in a Denver-area yard last week. Any 6000 STE is extremely hard to find today; when I wrote about a front-wheel-drive 1987 6000 STE back in 2018, desperate owners of these cars filled my inbox with requests — sometimes demands —  for parts that continue to this day. Many of them pleaded with me to help them find an all-wheel-drive version, and now I have managed to find one at Colorado Auto & Parts in Englewood, just south of Denver (in fact, the same yard at which I shot the '87). You may recall CAP as the old-school yard whose owners built the amazing airplane-engined 1939 Plymouth pickup a few years back.  The all-wheel-drive system on the 6000 STE was introduced for the 1988 model year, and it became standard equipment on the 1989 STE. At this time, the automotive industry had taken note of the success of the idiot-proof all-wheel-drive systems offered by AMC and Audi/Volkswagen; Toyota began selling Americans all-wheel-drive Camrys, Celicas, and Corollas, while Ford offered the Tempo and Topaz with optional AWD and Subaru was just beginning to make the switch from manually-selected four-wheel-drive to genuine all-wheel-drive around that time (it took a few more years for everyone to standardize on the 4WD/AWD terminology we use today, though). The 6000 STE AWD was intended to compete with such all-wheel-drive-equipped sedans as the Audi 80 ($23,610), Audi 90 ($28,840), and BMW 325iX ($30,750); its $22,599 price tag (about $50,700 in 2021 dollars) certainly made it seem like a bargain compared to those cars. In addition to the all-wheel-drive system, 1989 6000 STE owners got a digital instrument panel and more switches and buttons than the Space Shuttle.
