Up for auction is a 1969 Pontiac Firebird base model. Don't let the outside fool you, the floors and structure of this car are solid.
FOR MORE PICTURES: Pictures The car is not running, has been sitting since the late 80s. It will be years before I'd get a chance to build this so I'm going to offer it up for sale. It's a 50 50 Paint code so it would be great for a Trans Am clone. Also has blue vinyl bucket seat interior and factory A/C with the big block A/C box under the hood. The best part about this car is that it is basicly untouched and original with SOLID FLOOR AND TRUNK PANS. I believe the engine and automatic transmission are the original. Everything looks factory. The A/C compressor was taken off and is just laying in the engine bay. The condensor and box are still in place.I have not tried to start the engine. The car definitely needs front fenders, rockers and quarter panels. I still have not figured out how the lower side of the exterior rusted to the extent that it has without the floors and trunk being rotted out. There is no bondo in the car. Someone at some point sprayed the car blue over top of the original white (same white as the 69 Trans Ams). The glass is all good, needs a cleaning. I've left the car pretty much how I found it, no cleaning or glamming it up. The blue interior appears to be original. Driver's seat is in rough shape. Back seat should clean up really good, I haven't found any tears. The passenger seat has one seam busted on the shoulder towards the door. The carpet needs replaced, it's dry rotted. Need headliner. Door panels aren't terrible, I would reuse them for a driver style build. Needs the armrests replaced. Original steering wheel is a little sticky like most of them are. Car has a 10-bolt rearend with the mutli-leaf springs. I've tried to take a lot of good pictures of the car to show what's rusted and what isn't. I will be added a link a little later to more pictures. I believe I have around 48 total. If you are somewhat local and would like to come take a look at the car you are more than welcomed to. Buyer responsible for pick up of the car. No shipping on my part. I prefer CASH. I will work with a certified check but the car will not leave here until the money has cleared the bank. |

Junkyard Gem: 1989 Pontiac Sunbird SE Coupe
Sat, Jun 11 2022General Motors built the fantastically successful J-Body cars starting at the dawn of the 1980s and continuing well into our current century, on five continents. The Pontiac Division's version of the J started out being called the J2000 and the 2000, then got the Sunbird name originally used on the Pontiac-ized Chevy Monza starting in 1983. Here's a once-slick-looking 1989 Sunbird SE Coupe, found at a Minneapolis-area boneyard way back in 2016. The best-known of all the J-Body cars, here, was the Chevrolet Cavalier, but Pontiac far outdid even the most blinged-up Cavalier Z24 when it came to elaborate taillights. Because this is Minnesota, the car is a patchwork of various layers of junkyard-obtained rusty body parts. One fender has TURBO badges from a Sunbird GT. The other side has the correct engine badges for this model. That engine is a 2.0-liter, single-overhead-cam straight-four from an engine family originally developed for the Opel Kadett D. This one was rated at 96 horsepower when new. This one has the automatic transmission, so it wouldn't have been very much fun to drive. Check out that cool parking brake handle, though! And, hey, is that a full can of Colorado Cool-Aid in the foot well? You'd think a proper Minnesota Pontiac would at least be full of Grain Belt cans. It appears that Higley Ford in Windom, Minn., had this car on the lot at some point. Windom is closer to Sioux Falls than to Minneapolis. This final mileage total looks good for a car living in Tinworm Country. Pontiac built this generation of Sunbird from the 1988 through 1994 model years, though it was really just a facelift of the first-generation cars. Starting in 1995, the Pontiac J-Body became the Sunfire, and production continued until the J platform itself got the axe in 2005. This content is hosted by a third party. Watch as Hot Rod goes from El Paso to LA the hard way
Tue, 21 Feb 2012There are few things simultaneously more romantic and idiotic than taking a road trip in a beaten-down heap of a car. Trust us. We know. David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan of Hot Rod Magazine fame recently undertook an epic trip from El Paso, Texas to Los Angeles with the express goal of doing so for under $1,500, including the purchase price of a vehicle, food, lodging, repairs and, most importantly, fuel. With this in mind, the duo settled on a 1972 Pontiac Catalina for a lofty $650. Hilarity ensues.
Realizing that no one actually wants a Catalina sulking around the shop, Freiburger and Finnegan put the car up for auction on eBay Motors the instant they had the title in hand. By the time they rolled into Hot Rod HQ, the vehicle sold for a little over $500.

AMC Trans Am Javelin SST, an ultra-rare underdog, is up for auction
Sat, Sep 9 2023Among the rarest of the American muscle cars that went racing in the early Seventies — cars including the Camaro Z/28 and the Boss 302 Mustang — the 1970 AMC Trans Am Javelin SST may be the most hard to find, and among the most valuable. Only 100 units of this unique Javelin were produced, and one of them is up for auction at the Mecum event in Dallas on September 20. The Trans Am Javelin was fashioned in a patriotic livery of tricolor paint — red, white and blue — and arrived after the American Motors Corporation had decided in 1968 to compete in the Trans Am racing series against Ford and General Motors. The company's chief driver, Mark Donohue, would dominate the 1971 season, taking seven wins in his Javelin AMX and that yearÂ’s SCCA Trans-Am Championship. AMC took the trophy with 82 points, well ahead of Ford's 61, Chevrolet's 17 and Pontiac's paltry 7. The example listed for auction came equipped with a 390-cubic-inch V-8 engine with 325 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 420 pound-feet of torque, power steering and brakes, dual exhaust, BorgWarner four-speed manual transmission and Hurst competition shifter. Its “ram induction system” sealed a chamber around the air filter so that cool air from the functional hood scoop would be funneled into the intake. This JavÂ’s factory price was $3,995 — a mere $32,000 or so in today's money, though it was expensive by the standards of the time. The 100 Trans Ams were among 19,714 Javelin units built in 1970, so they started out rare, and today the surviving examples are highly collectible, if and when they come up for sale.
