1968 Pontiac Firebird 400 Coupe 425hp/ 100% Ground Up Restoration, 6 Spd T56 on 2040-cars
Madison, Wisconsin, United States
This listing is for a 100% full ground up restoration of a 1968 Pontiac Firebird 400 Coupe. At the time of this listing, there is only 691.8 miles on the car. Every inch of metal, every nut, every bolt, every washer was stripped, cleaned, and reused if possible. The body of the car has a 400 hood, new roof, new doors, new full rear quarters, new inner and outer wheel wells, new trunk pan, new floor pans, and new dash panel. Anything that was not good to use was replaced. The gaps are all straight and the same on each side of the car. The hood is gapped better than any other Firebird you will see. Just look at the pictures. They speak for themselves. The color of the car is by BASF and is a metallic “Black Cherry” base coat/clear coat system. The car looks black in the shade or in the dark. In the sunlight, you can see the cherry metallic pop though and is quite appealing to the eye. The underside of the car is as clean as the inside and outside. The underside and inside was coated in Lizard Skin ceramic coating which keeps the heat out and then Lizard Skin sound deadener was added to keep the car as quiet as possible. This product is tons better than anything original. It will keep stone chips or rust out under the car permanently. This restoration started in 2004 and finished last fall 2013. All work was done in my garage by myself, except for the motor and rear end, which were professionally rebuilt. I never thought I would even come close to selling this car. I love everything about it. What I found out after nine years of working on the car when I had time while raising 4 children was that I loved the work and the journey to get from the beginning to the end. I loved every minute of the work it took to get this awesome car finished. Now that I have it finished, I miss the work. I want to start another project. I don’t have the space to keep a finished car and start another car. I am torn about selling it but after nine years my life and goals have changed. I just don’t see myself driving it enough to keep it. Whoever buys this car is getting something that was not originally meant to be sold. It was meticulously restored with thousands of hours over nine years of my time and sweat to make it what it is today.
The deluxe interior is new. Seats are custom made with 100% leather made to match the style of the deluxe interior seats. I have had many compliments on the leather seats. Vintage Air A/C installed. New custom radio with a 6 disc changer in the trunk that looks vintage but it is modern technology. It will play cd’s, mp3, or songs on usb.
This was an original Verdoro Green car with standard green interior. It had a 350 two-barrel motor. I will include the numbers matching original motor. It now houses a 400 motor that has a casting # YS 806589 which was built in 1972. It is fuel injected with the Holley Commander Pro 950 system with a wide band O2 sensor. I will include my laptop computer with the software installed to tune the motor to your specifications. It has Edelbrock aluminum heads, Edelbrock aluminum water pump, Doug’s ceramic headers, and Billet Specialties serpentine system. The stainless steel gas tank is from Rick’s and is made for EFI systems so the system will never starve itself when when the gas is low and going around sharp corners. The electric fuel pump is in the gas tank. The motor was dyno’ed at 425.5 hp and 485.5 ft/lbs of torque. I have the Dyno sheet to prove it. The motor has an MSD distributer and ignition system. The aluminum radiator has two 1600 cfm fans to help keep the system cool. The hood is held in place with Fesler billet aluminum hood hinges which are smoother and tighter than original hood hinges.
The 6-speed transmission is a Tremec T56 magnum from Keisler Engineer. This transmission is rated to handle up to 650hp motors. The new drive shaft came custom with the transmission. Since the car goes fast, the brakes were upgraded to drilled/slotted zinc plated power disc brakes in the front and rear, along with complete new set of emergency brake cables. The brake lines are stainless steel and braided stainless steel at the wheels. The front suspension is tubular upper and lower control arms with Edelbrock shocks. The rear suspension is a new set of multi leaf springs with Bilstein shocks. The rear end was upgraded to an Eaton posi-unit, 3.93 gear ratio.
The steering box was upgraded to a quick ratio from CPP along with a new rag joint. It has a new tilt steering column with a Grant wood steering wheel. The interior gauges are new from Auto Meter and are the “Cobalt” model. Complete new Painless wire harness from front to rear. All Glass is new and a power window set-up was installed. I have well over $60,000 invested into this car. Over $25,000 into the motor, transmission, and rear end alone.
I have hundreds of photos to show the extent of this restoration. The winning wid will get all photos I have taken through the process. I will also provide buyer with all receipts from this restoration. There is absolutely nothing to hide here.
Even though this car is totally restored and for all practical purposes, a new car, it is being sold “AS IS” with no warranty implied. Car can be driven or shipped at buyer's expense.
Please only serious bidders that understand what a well built classic car with modern upgrades is worth. Anyone bidding with less than 10 ratings or low ratings will be cancelled and banned from this auction.
$1000 due via Paypal within 24 hours after auction ends. Winning bidder will need to contact me to make final payment and make arrangements to either pick up car or arrange for transport at buyers expense. |

Online Find: 1970 Pontiac Firebird Concept, cousin of the Weinermobile
Thu, Mar 26 2015So there's this for sale over at Hemmings: the 1970 Pontiac Firebird One concept designed by Harry Bentley Bradley and built by Dave Crook. For sale at the time of writing in Bellevue, Washington for $94,950, most of the seller's description appears to be pulled from a 2001 Barrett-Jackson listing, when the car was sold at auction for $61,600. Before we get to the car, it helps to know the man behind it: Bradley was a designer at General Motors from 1962 to 1966 who, against company policy, continued to submit designs to Hot Rod magazine under an assumed name. Mattel poached him in 1966 to design its brand new toy line called Hot Wheels, and Bradley designed all of them except one. He only stayed at Mattel for a year because he didn't think Hot Wheels would be successful, then left to start his own design company. Among other works, he penned the most recent example of the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile. Now can you see the Firebird One's design language? Since it apparently has a letter of documentation from GM design staff, we'll assume that GM asked the then-freelancing Bradley to work some magic on its muscle car, this being the totally Hot-Wheels influenced result. There are 17,456 miles on its 255-horsepower, 350 cubic-inch V8. The interior has tan leather, custom bucket seats, a wood grain dash, and one of the most awkward spare tire placements ever. The seller assures all prospective buyers that it is, like the Death Star, "fully operational."

No donation or payment necessary to enter or win this sweepstakes. See official rules on Omaze. Normally when we post about Omaze, it is about some kind of incredible car sweepstakes. Today, well, to be honest, it is more of the same, but in the case of this tastefully done 1969 Pontiac GTO, we don’t even care if you head over to the sweepstakes page to enter, just do it for the photos. ThatÂ’s right. As a self-described automotive photography snob myself, I have to say that the photos of this GTO are far and away the best IÂ’ve ever seen on Omaze. And while youÂ’re over there, might as well enter the drawing. Who doesnÂ’t want that lean, green, muscle machine in their driveway? IÂ’m more of a fastback Mustang guy, and even I was drooling over that GTO. Win a Restored 1969 Pontiac GTO - Enter at Omaze Here are the specs of the restored 1969 Pontiac GTO in question, according to Omaze: Maximum Seating: 5 Engine: 461 ci fuel-injected V8 Transmission: Tremec TKO600 5-speed manual Drivetrain: RWD Exterior Color: Verdero Green Interior Color: Black Maximum Horsepower: 575 hp Maximum Torque: 620 lb-ft Approximate Retail Value: $100,000 Cash Alt: $75,000 Special Features: Butler Performance-built EFI 461, Fast EFI v2.1, 3.73 Gears with Eaton Posi Traction, Wilwood 6-piston brakes with hydroboost, Ridetech Coilovers and muscle bars, Chassis Works billet drop spindles, staggered 18” Budnik billet wheels, Budnik steering wheel IÂ’m not the only one on the Autoblog staff who thinks this restoration is worthy of a little praise. News Editor Joel Stocksdale picked it above all the other current Omaze offerings for our holiday staff picks post. HereÂ’s what he had to say: “There are an awful lot of ways to build a restomod. And a lot of those ways can be boring or tasteless. This one is neither. This is a seriously classy Pontiac GTO. Under the hood is a 461 cu. in. V8 from Butler Performance that's based on an actual Pontiac V8, not just another Chevy engine. The whole thing is subtle with a low-key metallic green and clean gray wheels. There isn't any overly flashy chrome or decals. And the interior is the same with just an upgraded steering wheel, shifter and pedals in an otherwise stock cabin. Oh, and it has a manual.
Lutz dishes dirt on GM in latest Autoline Detroit
Mon, 20 Jun 2011Bob Lutz sits down for Autoline Detroit - Click above to watch video after the jump
Autoline Detroit recently played host to Bob Lutz, and, as is always the case, the former General Motors vice chairman dished out some great commentary. Lutz was promoting his new book Car Guys vs. Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business, and talk quickly turned to his role as it related to product development and high-level decision making at GM. While on the topic of brand management, Lutz revealed a few rather interesting tidbits about his former employer:
All Chevrolet vehicles were required to have five-spoke aluminum wheels and a chrome band up front, as part of the Bowtie brand's overall image.
