Other Info:

* The car starts quickly and runs great; it is very quick and it sounds great!  We were building the car to run in the 12’s but, I do not know if we made it.

* The car has had two previous adult owners before me and was only driven in the summer in Idaho before I brought it to Southern CA in 2004 with 84,000 miles on it.  The car has 98,000 Miles on the odometer today, but as almost everything that rotates or wears has been replaced since 2008 and except for the engine which had 32,000 miles on it when I bought it and has no more than about 8,000 miles of use since being partially rebuilt; hence, the car has many fewer effective miles on it.

* The car has a sun roof and original sun roof cover and case, power windows, tilt wheel, and power door locks, power mirrors.  The interior is in excellent condition.  The windshield was replaced a few years ago.

* Every bulb in the car has been replaced; headlights are Sylvania Silverstar; all lights work; headlight actuators were rebuilt and work like new.

* The car has no spare tire as the 18” wheels and tires will not fit in the Fiero spare tire space or the trunk if you had a flat…AAA and two cans of fix-a- flat is my solution as I have never had a flat in 56 years of driving.

* The car is smoke, pet, and accident free.

* Since I have owned the car the only times it has gotten wet is when it was being washed.

Third Party Inspection:

We do not have any of the usual third party inspection companies in the Prescott, AZ area, but I have had it evaluated by Jim Wing of Autotech Appraisals, (928) 541-7623.  His relevant business is a stated value (for insurance) appraisal service and he also appraises cars for buyers and sellers at auctions such as Barrett - Jackson.  The last picture on this page contains his report and he will discuss his opinions about the car with you, if you call him.  His appraised value for the car is $22,000.

If you want inspect the car, personally, or have the car inspected by a third party at my location, I will be pleased to cooperate with such inspection.

Minor Problem: The only physical problem noted by the appraiser was a cracked left rear sail panel which is shown in the last photo on this page.  Otherwise, his opinion of the car’s glass was Good.  Replacement sail panels are readily available here on eBay and elsewhere.

Title:

* The Car’s Title is Clear.

* The CarFax report shows that the car had a California DMV Junk Title issued in 2009, but there is no report of accidents, total loss, or structural damage, or water damage in that same report because the car has never been damaged in any way.

* The Junk Title was actually issued as part of the original plan to use the car as a kit car donor under the provisions of California’s Senate Bill 100 (SB100) Specially Constructed Vehicle program which provides a very complex regime for granting permission for the construction of 500 Specially Constructed Vehicles (mostly kit cars) per year.  One of the provisions of this program is that if a car is part of the kit car, even if the car is in perfect condition, the car must be treated as a dismantled vehicle and be issued a Junk Title as it will no longer be the vehicle it was and will be reconstructed as a vehicle which in no way resembles the car it was.

* California Vehicle Code Section 580 Specially Constructed Vehicle states, “A specially constructed vehicle" is a vehicle which is built for private use, not for resale, and is not constructed by a licensed manufacturer or remanufacturer.  A specially constructed vehicle may be built from (1) a kit; (2) new or used, or a combination of new and used, parts; or (3) a vehicle reported for dismantling, as required by which, when reconstructed, does not resemble the original make of the vehicle dismantled.  A specially constructed vehicle is not a vehicle which has been repaired or restored to its original design by replacing parts.”

* After, completing the first administrative part of this process which started on January 2, 2008, I decided life was too short and the cost too high to build a kit car and I would simply go for an engine swap, but the DMV would not remove the Junk Title.

* The engine swap was completed in August 2009, and the CA DMV issued a Rebuilt Title.

* In 2010, I moved the car to Arizona and the AZ Motor Vehicle Department issued another Rebuilt Title even though the car has never been damaged in any way.

California Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) Approved Engine Swap:

The car had a California Bureau of Auto Repair (BAR) approved engine swap completed in 2009 (BAR Vehicle Information Label is attached to the doorframe).  At that time, the car passed California smog testing as shown on the CarFax report.  I later moved to rural AZ where we have no smog testing.  The California engine swap approval may still be valid, but I do not know if it is.  If you are a California buyer you need to do your own due diligence in this matter.  I see no reason that that the car will not pass any state’s smog regulations, but I do not state or represent that it will.

Why Am I Selling the Car?

This has been a very long project and labor of love and I have about $32,000 invested in it, but I am about to turn 70 years old and I have too many cars.

Pontiac should come back as a performance division for GM

Thu, Apr 6 2017

For decades the Pontiac brand was known as GM's performance brand. From the 1964 Pontiac GTO, to the 1967 Firebird, to the 1984 Fiero, to the 2006 Solstice Turbo, and 2009 G8 GXP, Pontiac had a reputation for building exciting cars, with bold styling and performance to back it up. When the Camaro was killed off in 2002, the Pontiac Firebird died off with it, and the last Pontiacs were built in early 2010. But with names like G3, G4, and G6, Pontiac's performance image had long faded from it's earlier glory days. My idea for Pontiac's revival would be to bring it back as a dedicated performance marque similar to Chevy's Super Sport (SS) line up of years past. First, and most obvious would be to bring back the Pontiac Firebird. Offering the entry-level model with the Camaro's 275HP turbo 4 cylinder engine, then having the Camaro SS's 455HP V8, but also offering a halo model Trans Am that is a revamped Camaro ZL-1 along with it's tire-shredding 650HP, supercharged V8 and race tuned suspension. Secondly, I would bring back the GTO. Which I would base on the current Chevy SS, but I would use the full 455-horsepower LS4 V8 (rather than the 415-hp setup that it has now). Furthermore, I would add the impressive 650-hp supercharged V8 to provide real competition to the Charger Hellcat. Importantly, I would make sure that the new GTO had bold, distinctive styling that really set it apart. I understand that purists would want any Pontiac GTO to be a two-door coupe, but I think that they could forgive that if the new GTO was an outstanding American performance car. Next, I would take the Buick Cascada convertible, add much bolder styling, swap in the Camaro's 275-hp turbo engine, and tune up the suspension to provide more performance than luxury (without being harsh). And finally I would round out the line up by using the new 2018 Traverse , but use the new, bold Pontiac design language to spice up the model's looks, tweak the engines for more power, and again provide a performance suspension that matches the model's new sporty looks. Obviously, having a high performance Pontiac model line up would steal away some sales from Chevy, Buick, and Cadillac models. But I think that it would more than make up for this by also stealing away sales from competing brands. GM recalling another 1.3-million cars over power steering woes

Mon, 31 Mar 2014

When it rains, it pours. General Motors has announced yet another major recall, covering 1.3 million units in the American market over concerns that the power steering could suddenly fail. As reported by The Detroit News' David Shepardson, GM has now recalled nearly ten times as many cars as it did all of last year.
It's important to note that should this problem arise in these cars, the steering won't fail completely, however, power steering could suddenly stop functioning. Manual steering would still be possible, but as GM says, there's an increased risk of accidents, particularly at lower speeds.
Like the ignition switch recall, this latest problem covers a wide range of vehicles from Chevrolet, Saturn and Pontiac. Normally, we'd give you the full rundown in paragraph form, but the variety of models and model years means a list is just easier. So, have a look, directly from GM's press release:

Junkyard Gem: 1992 Pontiac Firebird

Mon, Dec 18 2023

Last spring, this series featured a 1992 Chevrolet Camaro RS in a Northern California junkyard, an example of the final model year for the highly successful third-generation GM F-Body. On a later visit to that yard, I spotted the Pontiac sibling to that car, a Firebird that was born the same year at the same Southern California factory. When the Chevrolet Division introduced the first Camaro as a 1967 model, the Pontiac Division got its own version of the F-Body called the Firebird. While the two cars were built on the same chassis and looked very similar, the first-generation Camaros got Chevrolet engines while their Firebird colleagues got Pontiac engines (including the innovative SOHC straight-six). The 1970-1981 second-generation Firebirds still had some Pontiac-only engines, but Chevrolet and Oldsmobile power crept under some hoods during that period. The third-generation Firebirds first appeared as 1982 models, and they drew from near-identical stockpiles of GM running gear (including the distinctly agricultural Iron Duke four-banger, which could be considered a Pontiac-derived engine). When the Camaro got the axe after 2002, the Firebird's neck was put on the same chopping block. When the Camaro returned for 2010, the Pontiac brand was sputtering to an agonized halt during its final year and there was no chance of the Firebird's return. This car is a fairly ordinary coupe, though it does have the mid-grade 205-horsepower 5.0-liter Chevrolet small-block V8 instead of the base 140-horse 3.1-liter V6. A 5.7-liter small-block was available as well. A five-speed manual transmission was base equipment, but few Americans wanted a three-pedal setup by the early 1990s. This car has the optional four-speed automatic. The MSRP with 5.0 engine, automatic transmission and air conditioning (which this car has) started at $14,304. That's about $31,868 in 2023 dollars. It was built at Van Nuys Assembly in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles County. By the dawn of the 1990s, the Camaros and Firebirds made at Van Nuys Assembly had become known as the worst-built GM cars made in North America, and the plant was shut down forever soon after this car was built. Today, a shopping mall lives where the factory once stood. This car managed to drive more than 150,000 miles during its life, so it beat the odds. The thrid-gen F-Body was pretty antiquated by the early 1990s, but the fourth-gen cars handled better and looked up-to-date for the era.
