MINT CONDITION, near original 1988 Pontiac Fiero GT with 69,400 on the odometer. Third owner was my Dad, who gave it to me a few years back, always owned and operated by an adult, non-smoking owners, babied and well cared for its entire 26 year life. My Dad is an auto enthusiast and spent countless hours cleaning, detailing, and polishing this car. Original paint, immaculate interior, original motor & transmission…original fun! Heck, even the original “donut” spare tire is up front under the hood; never used. Equipped with: 2.8 liter V-6, 5 speed manual transmission, air conditioning, power windows, power mirrors, cruise control, tilt steering wheel, original rear wing on trunk lid (rare), factory removable glass sunroof with original NEVER USED sunshade insert (complete with vinyl storage bag under the hood). Custom matching floor mats with “Fiero” embroidered on them. Maintenance: New front end ball joints and shocks installed 05/2002; new tires installed shortly afterwards 02/2003. The front windshield was showing signs of deterioration and was replaced on 04/2013. New NAPA battery on 07/2013. Since the car is a “fun-time only” vehicle and is never driven in bad weather, it has occasions when it sits for a while, so to prevent the battery from going dead a trickle charger is used; the charger’s leads are incorporated into the battery cables and the charger can be plugged in or unplugged in seconds. Trickle charger included with car. Modifications: The original seats were replaced by a previous owner with the ones you see, came out of a ’87 GT. Same material, same color as the rest of the interior. Brand new iPod connectable Kenwood stereo system with remote control (still in the bag), and new Kenwood speakers installed by Car Toys in 2013. At that time, power door locks were installed as well. I still have the original factory radio/cassette player and speakers in a box, and will include them to the purchaser if they should wish to convert the car back to original. No other modifications or changes made to this car. Defects: Very small surface scratches in the paint on the front nose of the car, probably incurred by using vinyl nose bra (included), mostly unnoticeable from 5 feet away. The worst one is shown in a picture, but you still have to look hard and close to see it’s there. Similarly, the rear wing has a couple slight scratches in the clear coat; I can’t even get them to show up on the camera. A good buffing would most likely take those right out. Otherwise, the paint is fantastic for being 26 years old, a testament to good wax and lots of elbow grease! There is also a crack in the driver’s side plastic seatbelt cover. I have a NIB replacement, but never got around to putting it on as it requires removal of the seat to access. The crack is hardly noticeable and has no effect on the functionality, but I am including the part so you can change it if you have the desire to. Other than that, there is nothing wrong with this car. It starts right up every time, even after sitting for a month or so; the A/C works and is cold; the headlights flip up and down perfectly; sounds great going down the road (ie, no “funny” noises); the interior is mint with no tears, rips, or stains; new stereo sounds awesome no matter what you play through it; never been in an accident, always garaged, owned and cared for by people who appreciate classic cars and know how to preserve them. In short: you will not be disappointed. Don’t let this one slip away! Legal: $500 deposit is required to be made into my PayPal account within 48 hours (two days) of auction close. Final payment of remaining balance may be made by your choice of cash, PayPal transfer, or cashier’s check ONLY. Car title will not be released until full payment has been made and has cleared the bank. Once the $500 deposit has been made, you have two weeks (14 days) to come collect the car; car is located in Tualatin, Oregon (25 miles SW of Portland). If you wish to have the car delivered, all arrangements and payment for such must be made by the PURCHASER. I will work with you as best I can, and delivering the car to a Portland or Vancouver, WA-based pick up location is do-able. 700 horsepower Porsche GT2 RS is the wildest 911 ever
Fri, Jun 30 2017The Porsche 911 comes in a variety of flavors, each filling a certain taste for a certain customer. Sitting atop the range is the new 911 GT2 RS. In previous generations, the GT2 had a bit of a reputation as a widowmaker, a 911 with massive power that could snap and bite with the slightest agitation. Porsche says the new model has been civilized, but with 700 horsepower going to the rear wheels, we're sure it's going to be as mad as ever. Power comes from a highly massaged version of the 3.8-liter flat-six from the 911 Turbo S. The rear-mounted engine makes an outrageous 700 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. Like we previously reported, the new car will use water injection to help keep things cool. The only transmission is Porsche's PDK. While enthusiasts may lament the loss of the manual, the RS models have always been about performance above all else. Simply put, the PDK is the better performance option. All that power translates to a 0-60 mph time of 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 211 mph. The engine makes 80 more horsepower than the previous model. That makes it the most powerful road-going 911 ever built. In fact, the 887 horsepower 918 Spyder is the only road-going Porsche that makes more power. The fact that Porsche trusts all of that power to go to the rear is both thrilling and terrifying at the same time. In order to manage traction, the GT2 RS gets a number of upgrades. Rear-wheel steering has become commonplace in the 911 lineup, so it's no surprise to see it here. Sticky tires with 265/35 ZR 20 section rubber at the front and 325/30 ZR 21 section rubber at the rear keep things planted. That comically large rear wing adds downforce, adding to stability. The car gets standard carbon ceramic brakes. While some people prefer traditional rotors for the street, like the PDK, this is all about performance. A number of intakes and outlets complement the rear wing and maximize aerodynamic efficiency. It's a bit of a surprise that with all the focus on downforce, the GT2 RS still manages to top out at 211 mph. The hood, front wings, wheel housing vents, door mirrors, side air intakes, parts of the rear end, and a number of interior components are all made from carbon fiber. The roof has been made of magnesium. If you want to drop any pretense of civility and comfort in the pursuit of speed, Porsche is offering a Weissach package that shaves off another 40 pounds from the already impressive wet weight of 3,241.
1969 Pontiac GTO Judge vs. 2006 GTO, which Goat gets your vote?
Mon, 08 Sep 2014The Pontiac GTO was perhaps the most iconic muscle car of the '60s and early '70s. With its beefy V8 and color palette screaming for attention, it summarized in a single vehicle everything that made the era so appealing to many young people. Pontiac tried to collect just a few drops of that aura again in the 2000s with a revived GTO, but with decidedly mixed results. The performance was still there with its big V8, but the looks never quite lived up to the powertrain. Now, Generation Gap wants to know which of these Goats is the one to own.
Things are skewed immediately because the 2006 GTO here is a real ringer. It comes from famous tuner Ken Lingenfelter's collection, and it's a one-off example partially fettled by GM Performance boasting a twin-turbocharged LS2 V8 with a claimed 750 horsepower and a wide-body kit. This Goat definitely isn't what you're going to find just browsing for one to buy in the newspaper. Still, dip the throttle just a little, and this GTO pulls like a freight train. It's enough to turn the two hosts into giggling schoolboys behind the wheel.
The '69 GTO Judge here is also out of Lingenfelter's collection, but this one is all stock with a 400-cubic-inch (6.6-liter) V8 and a Ram Air hood for a claimed 366 hp. It might not have the unbelievable power of the turbo '06, but it makes up for it with style to spare.
2008-2009 Pontiac G8 recalled over airbag concern
Mon, 07 Nov 2011General Motors is recalling around 38,000 Pontiac G8 sedans from its 2008 and 2009 model years. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that the cars may have a passenger-side airbag flaw that might prevent proper deployment in certain scenarios.
According to NHTSA, the airbag might not adequately protect a fifth percentile woman - that is, a woman around four-foot, 11-inches weighing 108 pounds. The New York Times indicates that the anomaly was found during a crash test conducted by GM's Australian branch, Holden, which was testing the G8's twin (read: Commodore) for head injuries. According to that report, the test in question is specifically tailored to simulate injuries to females, so the results do not apply to men or children.
The issue has been blamed on a seat position sensor that governs airbag deployment rates. NHTSA indicates that when the front passenger seat is moved all the way forward, the faulty sensor may inappropriately trigger a 30-millisecond delay between airbag stages, potentially leading to greater injuries.
