Many new parts including supercharger. Needs a few minor things to make it better. Under carriage has rusted back bumper that needs replaced/reinforced; this car originally was from the north, so your typical rust is there under the car; a couple of small rust spots just starting to show on body if you look very close."

1996 Pontiac Bonneville SSEI!  Factory supercharged model and it is loaded with standard and all optional equipment.  The exterior is black, and is still very shiny.  Other than some normal scratches and minor door dings, it looks very, very nice.  The paint is factory other than a couple of small touch up spots ( I was told this by previous owner, and it looks like it is).  The rear bumper cover was sprayed with black and it is not shiny. Factory gold rims have their average scuffs, marks, etc.., but look good.  Glass is all good, body panels are good, etc.  In fact, open all four doors and look in the jambs.  You will not see any rust!  All lights work as they should.  The interior also looks very nice.  The leather seats are a solid 8 or 9 out of 10.  In fact, other than some small marks  on the driver's seat, they look new.  The dash is nice, and has no cracks.  All the gauges work.  All power options work except for the mirrors.  I will check the fuse, as they were working.  The headliner is good.   The driver's door tweeter cover plastic is broken, and one of the snap-in vents for the ventilation is gone.  Door panels look great.  Ice cold air/heat with the auto-climate control system functions as it should.  Head ups display and it works perfect!!  Factory stereo and CD work great, but the display on the radio showing the numbers of the stations are dim.  Sounds very nice for a factory system.  All power options work: Power windows, locks, all buttons on the $1,000 factory optional premium power seat controls, twilight lights, performance shift, etc.  This car is loaded and looks it.  The only thing I do not know is the cruise, as I never use it.  I will check it in the next couple of days.  This has a deluxe and expensive factory alarm system that works like new!! FOB also.

Mechanical:  The car is bone stock and was always adult driven.  Most of the 212000 miles were highway miles.  The engine was gone through about 50,000 miles ago.  It sounds good with no loud noises or smoke.  It never has overheated!  The 3.8 motor runs like it should.  The supercharger works great and does exactly what it is supposed to do with no rattles.  The 4 speed auto shifts just like it should.  I would not be afraid to jump in this car and drive it anywhere. In fact, I just drove it to Miami and it cruised effortlessly. The following parts are brand new or have been put on in the last 2,000 miles:

New supercharger snout/bearings, etc. ($600); cv axle, sway bar link kit; front brakes/rotors, emergency brake cable ($650); gas tank, filler neck, fuel sender, fuel pump ($900); radiator, air compressor and other air conditioning parts ($1100.00), window tint ($150.00) and a few other parts I am definitely forgetting.

What does the car need? I will try to be as honest and descriptive as possible. Please, I am not a mechanic and this car is 18 years old with over 200,000 miles on it.  I can't possibly remember or cover everything, but I will touch on most things, and definitely the major ones. I encourage you to bring a mechanic if you want and have it inspected.  Sell the hard to get parts like the supercharger, the Heads up display, the leather seats, air conditioning components, honeycomb wheels,  all the electronics, body panels, etc....who knows...you might get more money by parting it out. The factory warning/display information on the dash even works!!!  No lights on either that are not supposed to be on!!! It would be a shame to part this nice running and looking car out though.

1.   Under the car, the rear bumper is rusted.  For safety, it should be replaced or strengthened.  Some other areas under the car have rust, but as far as safety, nothing safety related (according to mechanic). This car was up north for a few years, and that is where the rust came from.  But once again, open up the doors and other rust-prone areas and you will not see any.  Trunk floor pan looks great. The radiator support is rusted, but still seems solid. I just want you to know that this is not a lifelong Florida car, and there is rust under the car.  On the other hand, it was garaged just about its entire life.

2.  The electronic suspension changing the ride control will not work.  The light is on.  I have not had it diagnosed, but I am sure it is not worth fixing. Probably too expensive.

3.  The oil pan has a dent in it, but it does not leak or effect anything (thanks to a back-yard mechanic who would not admit he dented it).

4.  Little tiny leaks from motor and transmission areas.  This is very minor, such as a dime size a week.  I have not had to add any oil or other fluids.

5.  The ignition trim ring has small part broken, but works fine.   Should be fixed sometime so that the other side does not break. Left door tweeter speaker grill broke.

I can't think of anything else at this time.  The car starts right up at the turn of the key.  Battery is good, tires fair, muffler new but exhaust pipe old, brakes good, suspension feels fine other than what I mentioned above.  This has a very low reserve!  The parts alone are worth every penny I am asking.  See what you get out there for under $2,000.  Usually a bunch of junk.  I have five cars and I live in a gated community which does not allow any street parking.  I am getting tired of tickets and tow warnings.  So it is time to get rid of one or two of my cars.   The supercharger is quiet like it should be, and it kicks in beautifully.

This is a cash deal only.  You must deposit $250.00 in paypal within 24 hours or I reserve the right to relist.  Winning bidder must pay for car within 7 days unless prior arrangements are made. You are buying this car as is.  This is a used car with over 200,000 miles on it, and it is far from perfect.  On the other hand, this is a very sharp car and gets thumbs up and questions about it when I drive it.  It has excellent performance, and yet I still average 28 on the highway!  Please ask questions or ask me for a picture of a certain area if you want to see it. I reserve the right to remove the ad at any time, as I am listing it locally.  You can take a chance and try to get it a little cheaper than the buy it now by bidding on it, or not take a chance and grab this beautiful black classic for the buy it now price.  Remember that the buy it now price goes away when the reserve is met..   Thank you!   I am the private owner of this car, and I have the clear title in hand.  If you are serious about bidding, please ask me for a picture of a certain area if you want one.

GM Design shows what could have been and what might be

Thu, May 27 2021

We periodically like to check in with GM Design's Instagram account to see what they're cooking up. Even better is when we catch a glimpse of an alternate history of what legendary designers from The General's past were thinking, though those ideas may not have made it into production. This week, for example, the account posted some illustrations from George Camp, whose career at GM spanned nearly four decades, from 1963 to 2001. One of the renderings is of what appears to be a 1971-72 Pontiac GTO Judge, but with two headlights instead of the production unit's quad beams. The rear departs from the canonical version most dramatically, with a massive integrated wing. Other bits that didn't make the production cut include large side vents, a gill-like side marker and rectangular intakes below the headlights that wouldn't be out of place on a modern design today. Amazingly, from what we can make out of the date, it appears that the drawing was done sometime in 1965, which makes it quite prescient.           View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by GM Design (@generalmotorsdesign) There's also a very aerodynamic interpretation of a Corvette ZR-1. To our eyes it splits the difference between the 1986 Corvette Indy concept and a fourth-generation F-body Pontiac Firebird, so perhaps parts of Camp's work on this sketch did make it into physical form. There's also a radical sports car concept from May 1970 that resembles the Mazda RX-500 concept from the same year, a Syd Mead-looking Cadillac coupe, and an Oldsmobile with a cool take on the company's trademark waterfall grille and elements of the Colonnade Cutlass at the rear. Other recent posts include a FJ Cruiser-like off-road EV, a sleek coupe with the Chevy corporate grille, and a rendering of a Silverado-esque pickup that looks far better than the current production version.           View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by GM Design (@generalmotorsdesign) It's pretty easy to lose hours in the account, but it's always fascinating to see GM's visions of what could have been and what might be. Pontiac Firebird in latest Generation Gap scrap

Tue, 30 Sep 2014

Generation Gap is mining the Lingenfelter collection again this week to compare two very different interpretations of the Pontiac Firebird. An original 1968 example goes toe-to-toe with a 2010 Lingenfelter Trans Am to see whether the old man or the modern re-imagining takes the crown.
Being from the Lingenfelter collection, both cars are absolutely immaculate. The '68 packs a Pontiac 350-cubic-inch (5.7-liter) V8 with a claimed 320 horsepower and some classic, muscular style with a hood-mounted tach. Plus, it's painted in an understated shade of green that you don't usually see.
In the other corner is Lingenfelter's pumped-up take on the classic shape based on the modern Camaro, and this is just one of six concept versions ever made. It wears an eye-catching, vintage-inspired livery of blue with a white stripe package. Under its shaker hood is a 455-cubic-inch (7.5-liter) V8 with a reported 655 hp and 610 pound-feet of torque.

CNN chronicles young girl building Pontiac Fiero

Fri, 26 Oct 2012

At fourteen years of age, Kathryn DiMaria has already done what many self-proclaimed gearheads won't even attempt in their lifetimes. The Dearborn, Michigan teen is rebuilding a car from the ground up.
The intrepid youngster asked her parents when she was just twelve to start a Pontiac Fiero project, even offering to pony up all the funds herself. Father, Jerry DiMaria only expected the project to last a few months, but two years later, Kathryn is still at it. In this CNN video, the two are at Maker Faire (a DIY festival) rebuilding a 3.4-liter V6 engine out of a Chevrolet Camaro to replace the 2.8-liter mill found in the Fiero.
The whole family hast pitched in, with Kathryn's mother teaching her how to sew in order to complete the interior, father Jerry providing much of the technical know-how, and even her sister is chronicling Kathryn's progress through photos. Jerry even started a thread in a Fiero forum which has been live for two years and is now 22 pages long. Of the project, one forum member wrote, "welcome to the madness."
