1979 Pontiac Bonneville

24000 original miles. My father bought this car in 1982 with 22000 miles on it. He has only put 2000 miles on since he has had the car. He had several other cars at the time and used this sparingly on the road. He was the second owner. The car has been sitting indoors the majority of its life.

EXTERIOR: The car is burgundy red with lighter red paint. Gold pinstripe accents and lower rocker chrome. The paint is in excellent condition with no pitting or rusting of the chrome bumpers or accent trim.

INTERIOR: Still smells factory fresh new car smell. The interior is red velour seating, red dash, red carpet... all red inside. The headliner has started to sag some on the drivers side but otherwise in excellent condition. There is one small wear on the drivers upper seat where the velour has rubbed off. Dash is not cracked or split at all. Has the original 8 track radio still in dash. Seats are power as well as doors, windows, and locks. Cruise equipped but not sure if it is functional. The GM cruises always seemed to have a habit of the lever switches going bad. Same as the A/C goes. It seemed to be blowing cool air but a change over to 134A would probably help. Is equipped with power brakes and steering.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION : This is a bit of a rarity I have been told. Most of these cars were equipped from factory with the 301 engine. This has the optional 350 engine. Buick 350 I believe is what it is according to vin tag and window sticker. The carb has been freshly rebuilt ( paperwork to show). The car sounds great, very healthy engine but wouldn't hurt with a nice change of plugs, wires, cap and rotor. The transmission is an automatic and shifts like new with no slippage.

TIRES: Tire have little if any wear on them. However... they are close to 30 years old. They show no signs of cracking or splitting. The rims are the modular wire chrome aftermarket rims, but the original steel rims and hubcaps are included with the car if you wish them.

EXHAUST: The only thing needing here is a mid-pipe, possibly muffler and tailpipe. The pipe from the back of the converter to the muffler had perforated rust holes. I am only saying it needs a cat back system because usually the muffler and tailpipe are damaged when removed from the pipes. All depends how careful you are.

The car is drivable and roadworthy for local driving , but with the age of the tires and the exhaust system being in the condition it is... use your own discretion. I would feel safer it being trailered...but that is your decision.

Car is sold AS IS!!! No warranty or guarantee is provided. If you wish more info or pictures feel free to contact me.

I do not accept cashier check or money orders. I have been burned on the past with counterfeit on both of these. Pay pal or cash is best. If paid with a check, the car will be held until payment has cleared usually 10-14 days.

Please do not contact me to end the sale early with your bid. Let the auction run its course.

Good luck and happy bidding.

Detroit City Council vetoes Autorama stunt, objects to Confederate flag

Wed, Feb 20 2019

Detroit's Autorama hot rod show will stage its 67th annual event next month, and wants to kick off with Burt Reynolds tribute. The plan is to re-create the Mulberry Bridge jump from " Smokey and the Bandit" using a movie-correct 1977 Pontiac Trans Am. But the Detroit City Council voted 7-1 to prohibit the jump. Why? Because the Trans Am's front license plate holder displays the former Georgia state flag, a portion of which is the Confederate national flag, and the city council doesn't like that. In the movie, Bo "Bandit" Darville was a Georgia driving legend, and the flag on the car was Georgia's flag at the time. Councilman Scott Benson laid out the council's position when he said that the car "still proudly flies a Confederate flag, which is a symbol of oppression, slavery, as well as home-bred American terrorism. So this body said we are not going to support that type of symbolism nor the audacity to support that type of activity in the city of Detroit." It seems part of the council's ire comes from the same event two years ago. A stunt group called the Northeast Ohio Dukes re-created a "Dukes of Hazzard" jump in 2017 using a series-correct 1969 Dodge Charger, complete with a Confederate flag on the roof. Benson said the stunt group "expressly said they would not display that [Confederate flag] symbol during the jump." Not only was it displayed, but when driver Raymond Kohn gave interviews after the jump, his driving suit featured the Stainless Banner on the collar. Seems the council has been grinding its axe in silence for two years. Now Benson accuses Autorama of "a history of supporting images and symbols of racism, oppression, and white supremacy." Autorama is certain to take place March 1-3 at Cobo Center. This year's show will have around 800 cars on display, along with a special exhibit of 17 low riders and a Batmobile built by Flint native Carl Casper. Even if the Bandit car doesn't make the jump, the Trans Am and other memorabilia from the film will be there. A spokeswoman for Autorama said, "We are continuing to work to try to resolve this with the city." GM recalling 1.4 million older vehicles for oil leak fire risk

Tue, Oct 27 2015

General Motors is recalling 1,411,332 older vehicles with its 3.8-liter V6 yet again due to a fire risk. Specifically, there are 1,283,340 of them in the US, and the affected models are the: 1997-2004 Pontiac Grand Prix 2000-2004 Chevrolet Impala 1998-1999 Chevrolet Lumina 1998-2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo 1998-1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue 1997- 2004 Buick Regal The fault with these vehicles is that oil can drip onto the hot exhaust manifold during hard braking, which can potentially cause of fire. In the last six years, there have 19 reported minor injuries from this problem but no crashes or fatalities, according to the company. Spokesperson Alan Adler also told Autoblog: "GM has reports of 1,345 fires in vehicles that were repaired under two previous recalls for this issue." At this time, GM is still developing a remedy for the problem. According to Adler, the company advised owners to park these vehicles outside for the previous recalls. "The cars can be safely driven. In cases where a customer reported an engine fire while driving, smoke was reported, which would be an indication of a malfunction," he said. This is GM's fourth recall for this problem since 2008, according to The Detroit News. At one point it was believed that aging valve cover gaskets allowed the oil to leak out and drip onto the manifold. A campaign in 2009 covered nearly 1.5 million of these models through the 2003 model year for the same issue. At the time, dealers installed new spark plug wire retainers as a fix. GM is working on a remedy. The company is aware of post-repair fires in some vehicles but no crashes or fatalities. There have been 19 reported minor injuries over the last six years. These vehicles with 3.8-liter V6 3800 engines are affected: 1997-2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, 2000-2004 Chevrolet Impala, 1998-1999 Chevrolet Lumina and 1998-2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, 1998-1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue and 1997-2004 Buick Regal. Including Canada, Mexico and exports, the total population is 1,411,332.

GM Design shows what could have been and what might be

Thu, May 27 2021

We periodically like to check in with GM Design's Instagram account to see what they're cooking up. Even better is when we catch a glimpse of an alternate history of what legendary designers from The General's past were thinking, though those ideas may not have made it into production. This week, for example, the account posted some illustrations from George Camp, whose career at GM spanned nearly four decades, from 1963 to 2001. One of the renderings is of what appears to be a 1971-72 Pontiac GTO Judge, but with two headlights instead of the production unit's quad beams. The rear departs from the canonical version most dramatically, with a massive integrated wing. Other bits that didn't make the production cut include large side vents, a gill-like side marker and rectangular intakes below the headlights that wouldn't be out of place on a modern design today. Amazingly, from what we can make out of the date, it appears that the drawing was done sometime in 1965, which makes it quite prescient.           View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by GM Design (@generalmotorsdesign) There's also a very aerodynamic interpretation of a Corvette ZR-1. To our eyes it splits the difference between the 1986 Corvette Indy concept and a fourth-generation F-body Pontiac Firebird, so perhaps parts of Camp's work on this sketch did make it into physical form. There's also a radical sports car concept from May 1970 that resembles the Mazda RX-500 concept from the same year, a Syd Mead-looking Cadillac coupe, and an Oldsmobile with a cool take on the company's trademark waterfall grille and elements of the Colonnade Cutlass at the rear. Other recent posts include a FJ Cruiser-like off-road EV, a sleek coupe with the Chevy corporate grille, and a rendering of a Silverado-esque pickup that looks far better than the current production version.           View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by GM Design (@generalmotorsdesign) It's pretty easy to lose hours in the account, but it's always fascinating to see GM's visions of what could have been and what might be.
