Beautiful 1970 Pontiac Bonneville convertible in triple white with a $10,000 sound system.  I bought this car about a year ago from the estate of a the previous owner who loved and pampered the car.  He dumped a ton of money into to it, as evidenced by the competition-level sound system you see pictured.  I have since updated the system with a Pioneer bluetooth head unit that also allows for hand-free cellular calls. I also had the subwoofers re-foamed.  The system sounds great and makes cruising with the top down at night all the more fun.  There are lights surrounding the four amplifiers that come on when the trunk lid is open.  Pretty cool.

When I got the car, it had aftermarket wheels and wide whitewalls that I didn't care for so I sourced a set of original steel wheels and wheel covers and put brand new radials on the car.

All power accessories work, including the heat and AC, which blow warm and cold, respectively.  Anyone selling a car with AC who says, "It just needs a charge" is full of it.  If it just needs a charge, then just freakin' charge it!!!  What that statement REALLY means is plan on spending $2,000 getting the AC system working.  Not with this Bonny.  It already works fine.

Big block 455 is smooth and powerful.  No significant smoke or drips.  Tranny shifts correctly.  No alignment or suspension issues.  Car stops just fine.  There is nothing at all needed to get in and enjoy this car from the moment it arrives in your driveway.

As for overall condition, many people would consider it in show condition but an experienced car guy would characterize it as a solid #3 driver and that's what I think. No rust bubbles and door alignment is good.   Paint is glossy and not the least bit chalky. A few dings here and there, especially on the chrome rocker panel on the passenger side.  Interior is excellent with no blemishes.  It's a great car but not a show car.  But I've owned a LOT of cars and my standards go up every year.  I take very good care of all my cars and I am the kind of guy you want to buy a classic car from.  I fully believe that what goes around, comes around and I will not overstate the condition of a car I'm trying to sell because I don't want someone to do that to me. If you are looking to get into a classic boulevard cruiser, you would be proud to own this.

I’m not a dealer. I’m a regular guy who loves cars. The only reason I'm considering selling this and a 1970 Mustang convertible is to buy a car on my bucket list: 1966 GTO convertible.

The opinion regarding the condition of anything other than a brand new car is subjective. To eliminate any chance of disappointment, you really should see and drive the car before buying. Call me at (650) 430-2010 and let’s make arrangements. If you are not comfortable buying a car sight unseen (perfectly understandable), then arrange for an inspection.

If you’re serious about buying a car in this price range, I hope you will make the effort to pick up the phone and call Mark at 650-430-2010 to talk about the car. It seems strange to me that anyone would be willing to buy an expensive classic car sight unseen from a stranger without at least talking to him.

Please only bid if you are willing to honor your bid. The winner must Paypal or wire a non-refundable deposit of $500 to my account or hand me cash within 24 hours of the auction ending or your offer being accepted. Then, when you come to pick up the car, if you did not see it before the auction ended and are disappointed in any way, you will not have to pay the balance due. However, by winning the auction, you take the car off the market and all the other bidders turn their attention to other cars. Accordingly, your deposit IS at risk.

Junkyard Gem: 1992 Pontiac Sunbird convertible, with extremely rad W25 Appearance Package

Sun, Dec 22 2019

Radwood has sparked a revival in the appreciation of goofy 1980s and 1980s automotive fashions, from neon-colored tape stripes to excessive TURBO badging to ads featuring horrifying Nagel-style women with radio faceplates instead of eyes. I see a lot of discarded cars that would have been ideal to bring to Radwood, and today's Junkyard Gem is even radder than, say, a purple Mercury Tracer Trio or a teal Chevy Beretta GT or even the elusive Dodge Daytona IROC R/T (yes, there were IROC Daytonas): a genuine Pontiac Sunbird SE convertible with the W25 Appearance Package and Bright White Star wheels. The W25 package got you a white Sunbird with kicky script badging, white wheels, and — if you opted for the optional 3.1-liter V6 — these candy-cane-influenced red-and-white displacement badges on the fenders. Now this is rad! The white interior got dirty fast, especially if the owner left the convertible top down, and these wheels were tough to keep clean for more than a few hours. This one appears to have spent many years sitting abandoned with the top down, judging by the completely trashed interior. The base engine for 1992 was the good old Cavalier four-banger, complete with 111 horsepower. This 3.1-liter engine made a respectable-for-1992 140 horses, for plenty of torque-steery, tire-squealy fun. As a J-Body car, the Sunbird was a sibling to the Chevrolet Cavalier in 1992 (the J-based Cadillac Cimarron, Oldsmobile Firenza, and Buick Skyhawk departed before the end of the 1980s). Starting in 1994, the Pontiac Sunfire replaced the Sunbird, continuing in production all the way through the demise of the J platform in 2005. This content is hosted by a third party. CNN chronicles young girl building Pontiac Fiero

Fri, 26 Oct 2012

At fourteen years of age, Kathryn DiMaria has already done what many self-proclaimed gearheads won't even attempt in their lifetimes. The Dearborn, Michigan teen is rebuilding a car from the ground up.
The intrepid youngster asked her parents when she was just twelve to start a Pontiac Fiero project, even offering to pony up all the funds herself. Father, Jerry DiMaria only expected the project to last a few months, but two years later, Kathryn is still at it. In this CNN video, the two are at Maker Faire (a DIY festival) rebuilding a 3.4-liter V6 engine out of a Chevrolet Camaro to replace the 2.8-liter mill found in the Fiero.
The whole family hast pitched in, with Kathryn's mother teaching her how to sew in order to complete the interior, father Jerry providing much of the technical know-how, and even her sister is chronicling Kathryn's progress through photos. Jerry even started a thread in a Fiero forum which has been live for two years and is now 22 pages long. Of the project, one forum member wrote, "welcome to the madness."

Porsche Boxster Spyder to get GT3's 4.0-liter flat six?

Sun, Feb 4 2018

It's been a merry-go-round the past few months, the rumormill focused on what will power the next Porsche Boxster Spyder. First came hearsay of a flat-six going into the special edition of a model line known for its turbocharged four-cylinder engines. Then came tattling that the flat-six in question was the naturally aspirated, 4.0-liter from the 911 GT3. A couple of weeks ago we wrote " we'd be surprised if Porsche packed anything other than a turbocharged flat-four under the skin." But Autocar has a new report that, indeed, a downtuned version of the 500-horsepower 4.0-liter from the GT3's rump will move to the Boxster Spyder's midsection. The Autocar piece follows a Wheels magazine article from last November, and the prediction isn't outrageous. When Car and Driver reviewed the last Boxster Spyder, it wrote, "the hand-me-down six comes from the older 911 Carrera S, not to be confused with the new turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six that powers the refreshed 911." If we can believe a recent report from Automobile about the 992-series 911 due later this year, the same thing is happening: The 991.2-series GT3 bequeaths its powerplant to the smaller sibling, and the 992-series GT3 moves to a 3.8-liter, twin-turbo flat-six with around 550 hp. Autocar quotes Andreas Preuninger, the Porsche engineer leading the development of all of these wunderkinds, saying of the Boxster earlier this year, "Natural aspiration is one of our main USPs. ... [We] think we can achieve throttle response and immediacy a little bit better with an atmospheric high-revving engine than any kind of turbo." We'll guess that means, by inference, that the GT3 is about to age out of naturally-aspirated university. The limited-edition Boxster Spyder might carry the torch with the 4.0-liter, with output somewhere around 430 hp. The Cayman GT4 could do the same. Or, who knows, an evolution of the 375-hp, 3.8-liter flat-six in the previous Boxster Spyder might burble out of left field. We expect to see the Boxster Spyder late this year. Until then, we'll wait to see what the merry-go-round says next time the Zuffenhausen horse comes around.
