The Story:

For sale is this beautiful 1963 Pontiac Parisienne Convertible. This is a rare Canadian built Pontiac virtually identical to its American sister the Bonneville. During this time Canadian Pontiacs came off the same assembly line as the Chevrolets and in an effort to save time and money, the same drivetrains were used for both Pontiac and Chevy"s. This "63 is basically a 1963 Chevy Impala with a Pontiac Parisienne body! The best of both worlds, Chevy running gear, trans/engine, with Pontiac styling on top. So when someone stops to ask you if you have the 389 engine, and they will, you will have a fun conversation explaining how a Pontiac came from the factory with a Chevy engine! You will also be able to source from vendors selling Impala parts which helps when you have such a rare vehicle.
This car started life with a Chevy 283/195hp V8 with a powerglide 2 speed transmission, power brakes, power steering and power convertible top. When I purchased the car in the summer of 1992 (yes one owner the past 20 years), the car had a 350 chevy with a two barrel carb, as the original 283 had seized up. The original motor came with the car but being young and naive and not having a place to store a spare engine, I gave it to a mechanic friend. Unfortunately that engine is long gone now.
The car was well enjoyed for 4 summers (92-96) before I went away to school and put the car in storage where it basically stayed until 2005 except when I came home to visit and took it for a drive. In 2005 I decided to redo the car with the power I thought it should have had in the beginning. I started by removing the 350 engine and ordering a custom Chevy 383 stroker with Edelbrock aluminum heads, performer RPM manifold, 500 cfm Edelbrock carburetor, Hooker ceramic headers and stainless exhaust system. This puts out about 425 HP/450 TQ. This engine can easily handle a 750 CFM carb if you wanted more power, I just put a smaller one on as I was looking to use this as a long distance cruiser. On my first long trip the car averaged 20 MPG! This impressive MPG was helped along by the new 700R4 overdrive transmission I had installed. The car was then fitted with beautiful sounding side pipe exhaust, 17” torque thrust II wheels (255/50 rear, 245/45 front) and wrapped in BF Goodrich Scorcher rubber. I also installed a billet steering wheel to match. Behind those classic looking wheels is a new SSBC disc brake package replacing the old drum brakes. The cooling system was updated with a new radiator and electric fan with automatic sensor switch. A new larger chrome alternator was added along with new power steering pump, fuel pump etc. All new poly urethane bushings were added all over the car. Pretty much anything that could be replaced was replaced/upgraded. A new rear sway bar was also installed. A tachometer, water temp, oil pressure and volt gauges were added as well. You can see in the picture the gap above the gauges is where the ashtray would go (included), to me the gauges were more important than the ashtray. The car also has new custom Moser axles that had installed along with a new posi rear end. Just so you know, none of the work was done by me personally, it was all done by licensed mechanics.
There are less than 2000 miles on these new parts. I had most of the work done at a shop in Canada then imported the car to the United States. The car has a legal U.S. title.
The car looks great and gets tons of attention, however this is not a show car by any means. This car is almost 50 years old and thus there are some cosmetic issues common to cars of this age. The new owner will likely want to install new carpet on the floor and door panels. The upholstery is original and the back seat isn"t in bad shape. I have had many people tell me not to redo it, others say just change it out. I have seat covers on the front seats as the material has split along some seams. I personally think the interior needs doing and have wanted to have it redone but will leave the color options etc. up to the new owner and let you choose whatever interior you want for your new baby. The dash has the typical sun damage crack and the clock doesn"t work. Otherwise everything is functional. The rear window (plastic) doesn"t zip up anymore so the top should be replaced. One other small issue is that the speedo reads fast due to the new tire size and new transmission. All it needs is the correct plastic speedo gear installed in the tranny to compensate. Right now it reads 25% fast so the car actually has a few less miles than the odometer says! Parts to remedy this are easily available from a 700R4 website for less than $50. I drive the car so little I didn"t bother to have it done myself.
The body is in good shape and is nice, straight and clean as you can see from the pictures. This is a great car, to make it a fantastic car it really does need a new convertible roof, carpet and interior. However you can drive it as is and people will still love it everywhere you go. If you don"t like attention then this isn"t the car for you!! In owning this car the past 20 years I have never seen another one on the road, it is rare rare rare. Making this car even more rare is the fact that it came with a column shift and bucket seats rather than a bench seat most other column shift cars would have had.
I have tried to put up pictures of things I feel you would find important, but if there is something else you want a picture of just let me know and I will send it to you. I want you to be totally satisfied with this purchase! Again, this isn"t a show car and it has the usual squeaks/rattles that go along with a 50 year old car. I will also assist the buyer with shipping arrangements to the best of my ability. This is a rare 1963 convertible, it deserves to be shipped in an enclosed trailer!

Just about everything has been replaced and upgraded on this car including the engine, transmission, axles, brakes, exhaust, battery, sway bar, alternator, cooling system, gauges, mounts, bushings just about anything you can think of. I have over 20K in receipts alone.
Due to the rarity of this model it is hard to find pricing guide information so I have included the most recent NADA book values for its sister car the 1963 Bonneville.
Low Retail: $20 600
Average Retail: $36 100
High Retail: $53 500
I am selling with no reserve. It is time for her to find a new home that will give her more use than I have time for.  I reserve the right to end the auction early as the car is for sale locally.
This is not your grandfathers Pontiac, this car rumbles and turns heads everywhere it goes!!

GM Recalls 1.5 Million Cars For Steering Defect

Tue, Apr 1 2014

General Motors Co. said Monday it is recalling 1.5 million vehicles worldwide because the electronic power-steering assist can suddenly stop working, making them harder to steer. The new recall brings to 6.3 million the number of vehicles GM has recalled since February. The initial recall - now at 2.6 million small cars for an ignition switch defect - prompted the automaker to name a new safety chief and speed up the review of cases that might lead to recalls. GM said it expects recall-related costs to total $750 million in the first quarter, including $300 million for the ignition switch recall. Included in the new recall are: - Chevrolet Malibu from the 2004-2005 model years, plus some 2006, 2008 and 2009 model-year cars. - Chevrolet Malibu Maxx from the 2004-2005 model years, plus some 2006 model-year cars. - Chevrolet HHR from the 2009-2010 model years (non-turbocharged only). - Some Chevrolet Cobalts from the 2010 model year. - Some Saturn Auras from the 2008-2009 model years. - Saturn Ion from the 2004-2007 model years. - Pontiac G6 from the 2005 model year, plus some cars from the 2006, 2008 and 2009 model years. - Service parts installed into certain vehicles before May 31, 2010, under a previous recall GM says no deaths related to the defect have been reported. It is still investigating whether there have been any accidents or injuries related to the problem. GM dealers will replace the power steering motor and other parts for free. Spokesman Alan Adler said owners will be notified of the recall the week of April 28 and will be told when parts are available after that. The Cobalt and the Ion, which are also involved in the ignition switch recall, share many common parts.GM recalled Cobalts from the 2005-2010 model years for the power steering defect in 2010, but it's unclear why the company didn't recall the Ion at the same time. Federal regulators also opened an investigation into power steering complaints in the Ion in 2010, but didn't order a recall. Even Ferrari swept up in latest Takata recall expansion

Fri, May 27 2016

The scope of Takata's deadly airbag problems continues to widen. Eight manufacturers announced recalls Friday that affect more than 12 million vehicles, according to documents filed with federal regulators. The automakers include Honda, which is recalling 4.5 million units, Fiat Chrysler with 4.3 million, Toyota with 1.65 million, and Subaru, which is recalling almost 400,000. Some of these cars include the Saab 9-2x and Pontiac Vibe that Toyota and Subaru made for General Motors. Mazda will recall 730,000 vehicles and Nissan has 400,000 affected units. The smallest numbers were posted by Mitsubishi, with 38,000 Lancers manufactured from 2006 to 2007, and as a noteworthy high-end manufacturer, Ferrari is calling back 2,800 vehicles. These are all US-market cars. Beyond America, the Japanese Transport Ministry has announced seven million additional vehicles will be recalled, which means 19.6 million vehicles across the globe are affected by recalls announced. The defects have been traced to an insufficiently manufactured airbag inflator, which lacks a drying agent that would prevent the inflators from deteriorating over time. Thirteen deaths have been linked to the faulty airbags, which have become unstable and are prone to exploding and showering vehicle occupants with lethal amounts of metal shrapnel. A private equity firm, KKR & Co., has been named in a possible buyout of the struggling Takata. GM expands headlight recall to 180k Buicks and Pontiacs

Thu, Aug 20 2015

General Motors is issuing an expanded headlight module recall to include 180,504 examples in North America of the 2005 Buick LaCrosse (2008 model year pictured above) and 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix. Specifically, the campaign affects 159,584 of them in the US and 20,920 in Canada. When the part fails, the vehicles' low beams can stop working either intermittently or permanently. "GM is unable to confirm any crashes, injuries or fatalities related to this condition," the company said in a statement, and there's currently no permanent repair for the problem. For now, dealers will replace the headlamp module with a new example of the same part. The automaker first announced this campaign in November 2014 when it affected 316,357 examples globally of the 2006-09 Buick LaCrosse; 2006-2007 Chevy TrailBlazer and TrailBlazer EXT; 2006-2007 GMC Envoy and 2006 GMC Envoy XL; 2006-2007 Buick Rainier; 2006-2008 Saab 9-7X; and 2006-08 Isuzu Ascender.
