The Bonneville was the top-of-the line Pontiac "Wide-Track" convertible for 1962, powered by the renowned 389 CID V-8 coupled with Hydramatic. Distinctive and impressive, it was ahead of its time and made many other brands in '62 look obsolete.

I am selling my Bonneville that is finished in wonderful period Aquamarine metallic complemented by a white convertible top. The interior features tri-tone winged bucket seats, upholstered in the correct combination of Morrokide with leather inserts. The dashboard features genuine wood trim that was a striking feature of the Bonneville interior at the time.

This heavily optioned cruiser is equipped with power steering, power brakes, rare factory AM/FM radio with power antenna, full interior lights, movable trunk light, power side view mirror, and the desirable 8-lug aluminum wheels. It is also equipped with rare factory air conditioning. It has a working compressor and blower, but is not blowing cold at present. Other options include backup lights and a tinted windshield. The Pontiac Historic Services window sticker (shown below) documents these options.

The power convertible top works flawlessly, and when lowered turns this Bonneville into an awesome '60's cruiser. The engine is smooth and powerful, with excellent response and a classic note from the dual exhaust pipes. The Hydramatic transmission shifts smoothly and the Bonneville is fully capable of keeping up with highway traffic, easily passing some surprised new car drivers when the four-barrel carb kicks in.

Showing 93,400 miles on the odometer, this Bonneville received an older full mechanical and cosmetic restoration. The Aquamarine paint is in fine condition, showing a bright luster with no cracking or bubbling. The interior is beautiful and needs only some attention to the door panels and minor details if the new owner wishes to freshen up the restoration. This is an excellent and dependable driver quality car that can be used without worry and enjoyed on the road. I can say from experience that it turns heads wherever it goes.

Optional rear fender skirts are included. I prefer the sportier look of seeing the 8-lug wheels in full view, but the skirts can be easily fitted or removed depending on the owner's preference. Photos on and off are shown below. The trunk is nicely finished with a mat, spare tire cover and tire tools in a pouch. Included are original owner's manual, shop manual, and sales brochure. Full documentation from Pontiac Historic Services is also included. Just installed is a new battery and air filter. Drive it home, no work needed!

This Bonneville is located in the Charlotte, N.C. area. Bidders are invited to test drive and inspect. For more information interested bidders may call (704)519-9406 or (917)301-4799. Auction may be ended at any time from prior sale.  Private owner, not a dealer.

Hurst Edition Trans Am proves the Screaming Chicken will rise from the ashes

Wed, 31 Oct 2012

It seems the Pontiac Trans Am steadfastly refuses to die. Ever since Chevrolet was granted a retrofied Camaro to compete with the Ford Mustang, Pontiac lovers have lamented the loss of this 1970s icon. And, looking at the Hurst Edition from Trans Am Depot, shown here at the 2012 SEMA Show, may explain what all the fuss is about.
It's not going to appeal to everyone's muscle-car tastes, but there's certainly room for a brash-and-bold black-and-gold Special Edition in many a Trans Am lover's garage. After all, if you want the keys to a custom pony car, you'll certainly get noticed in this one. If this scheme isn't your bag,, you can alternatively order your Hurst Edition in white and gold or silver and black. Oh, and don't forget a color-coordinated Screaming Chicken on the hood.
No matter which way you choose to go, your inner Burt Reynolds will appreciate the Eibach suspension kit, forged wheels with Pirelli PZero tires, functional shaker hood, fender air extractors, rear spoiler and, of course, a Hurst shifter inside. The interior is emblazoned with all manner of special touches, including a Hurst dash plate and T/A stitching on the Katzkin two-tone leather seats.

The prized golden 1965 Pontiac Hurst GeeTO Tiger is headed to auction

Sat, Apr 4 2020

Once upon a time, a Pontiac advertising executive named Jim Wangers created a countrywide contest with this gorgeous 1965 Pontiac Hurst GTO serving as the grand prize. The contest was centered around "GeeTO Tiger," a song by musical artists The Tigers. A 19-year-old took home the golden muscle car at the time, but now anybody can buy the rare car through an upcoming Mecum auction.  As a way to boost sales and awareness of the Pontiac GTO and its performance parts, Wangers partnered up with Royal Pontiac, George Hurst, and Petersen Publishing in 1965 to create a contest. Royal provided the car, Hurst dressed it up, and Petersen distributed the contest in publications across the country.  In order to participate, people were asked to provide a reason why they wanted the car and identify how many times the word "tiger" was used in the promotional song "GeeTO Tiger" (pronounced G-Tee-Oh) by The Tigers. A 19 year-old kid named Alex Lampone from West Allis, Wisconsin, won the contest and took delivery of this jazzed-up GTO at the 1965 NHRA Indy Nationals.  This content is hosted by a third party. The Tigers - GeeTO Tiger The prize car was completely kitted out and described by Wangers as "the nicest GTO you could put your hands on." It had more than 28 factory options, including a black cordova top, power windows, power steering, power brakes, a tilt steering wheel, a power driver's seat, dual-speed windshield wipers, a custom sport steering wheel, a rally gauge cluster, a push-button AM/FM radio with power antenna, and a Verba phonic rear speaker. What makes it stand out is the Hurst-inspired gold theme, which includes gold paint, gold mag wheels, and a gold-plated Hurst Shifter. Under the hood, this GTO has a Tri-Power 389 V8 engine that pairs with a four-speed manual transmisison. It also has a 3.55 Safe-T-Track rear axle and dual exhaust. Throughout the years, this car has exchanged hands many times and has undergone a few changes. It's been repainted, and the engine has also been rebuilt, but Mecum says it's otherwise highly original. Ony 59,000 miles have turned over on the odometer.  The GeeTO Tiger Pontiac is scheduled to go up for auction in Indianapolis this June. Visit Mecum for more information. GM Recalling Another 2.7 Million Vehicles In Five Separate Campaigns

Thu, May 15 2014

The recalls keep rolling in from General Motors, evidently keen to avoid repeating the mistakes of the ignition-switch debacle and clean house. This time they're all coming at once, with five separate recalls announced together covering approximately 2.7 million vehicles. The largest of the five actions involves over 2.4 million units of the previous-generation Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura in order to fix brake light wiring harness, which have been found to be susceptible to corrosion. The recall is separate from the 56k Aura sedans which GM recently recalled over faulty shift cables, not to mention the previous massive recall of 1.3 million vehicles – some of them the same models – but appears to have resulted from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation that started with the G6 almost a year ago. The second-largest campaign involves the 2014 Chevy Malibu, specifically those fitted with GM's 2.5-liter engine and stop/start system, approximately 140,000 examples of which has been found to have problematic brakes. The issue does not appear to be connected to the recall of 8k Malibu and Buick LaCrosse sedans (also involving brake woes) which we reported upon last week. Four crashes have been reported in such models, but GM admits it's not yet clear if the problem was a contributing factor in the accidents. A further 112k Corvette models from the 2005-2007 model years are being called in for problems with their low-beam headlamps resulting from a flexing relay control circuit wire that's not meant to bend. GM says it is "aware of several hundred complaints" about this issue, but notes that there have been no reports of related accidents. In addition, over 19k examples of Cadillac CTS from the 2013 and 2014 model years are being recalled over windshield wipers that might not work after a jump start. Finally, GM is also bringing in 477 examples of its 2014 Chevy Silverado, Tahoe and GMC Sierra (though not the Yukon) to fix a problem with a tie rod in its steering rack. As ever, all recall repairs will be performed free of charge, and GM is now estimating that recall-related actions this quarter will result in an estimated $200-million charge against its second-quarter earnings. Read the full announcement from GM below for further details.
