Here's your opportunity to own a real piece of muscle car history without the extra expense of restoring one yourself because I've already done it for you. I have owned this Road Runner for over 9 years and it has always been garage kept and has never been driven in the rain or snow. This car started life as an F-8 Ivy green, 383 4-speed hardtop with a black, bench seat interior but the previous owner did the conversion to an automatic with the repaint to In Violet. Excluding the frame and paint, I have replaced with new parts or rebuilt every major and minor component/system of this car. It would take over $50K in parts and labor to replicate what I have done with this gorgeous example of Mopar muscle. Here is what you are bidding on:

- A beefed up 440 engine dyno’d and documented to be pumping out 522 horses and 502 ft lbs of torque. I have put about 5k cruising miles on the motor since it was built by a very respected local engine shop Sehr Performance. You can see a video of it on YouTube, just search for “Sehr Performance”, scroll down and click on the video showing the purple Road Runner and prepare to be blown away with the sound of the open headers (courtesy of a flick of a switch and QTP electric exhaust cut-outs) and an awesome burnout done by Scott Sehr himself. Top end-Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminum cylinder heads and matching polished intake manifold, polished water pump housing with a high-flow water pump. 7-quart oil pan with larger Hemi-style oil pick up tube. A light weight, aluminum 4bbl Holley 770 CFM Street Avenger carb with vacuum secondary and electric choke. An MSD electronic ignition supplies the big spark with Taylor 8mm silicone plug wires.

- Rebuilt 727 TorqueFlite automatic with heavy duty bands, an aluminum deep pan, a Frank Lupo (Dynamic Converters) custom-built 3000 RPM stall converter and transmission cooler. 8 3/4 rear end with Sure Grip and 3.55 gears out back.

- All new soft interior from Legendary Interiors including new vinyl top, seat foams, seat covers, seat backs, door panels, headliner, sail panels, roof insulation, carpet, and sound absorbing and heat deflecting Dynomat on the floorpan.

- Glass replaced: (all tinted except for rear which is original) windshield, front door windows and rear quarters. Inner window roller mechanisms were refurbished and all wear and tear parts were replaced.

- Dash cluster was removed and sent to Auto Instruments where they correctly re-chromed, painted and white lettered all the plastic dash gauge panels, removed scratches and buffed the clear plastic lenses, re-soldered the copper connections on the back and installed new LED bright white bulbs. All of the gauges were refaced, rebuilt and re-calibrated. To reduce heat build-up and for electrical fire prevention, the ammeter was converted to a voltmeter but retains it’s original face. I also had them install a new quartz Tic-Toc-Tac from Real Time Engineering which has proven to be very accurate both with time keeping and monitoring RPMs.  All electrical wiring harnesses front to back and underneath the hood were replaced with Year One harnesses. Engine hood turn signal indicators which were only originally available on GTX  models were also added.

- New gas tank, straps, fuel sending unit, vent tubes and 3/8” stainless steel fuel lines. Brakes-original drums were replaced for real stopping power with power disk brakes on all corners including drilled and slotted 14” rotors. This car comes to a stop nearly as quickly as it lays down rubber. Emergency brake cable and fittings were also replaced. Aluminum 15” American Racing wheels done in an updated Magnum 500 style are wrapped with Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 rubber with plenty of skin left.  P27560R15’s out back with P22570R15’s in front.

- Both front and rear bumpers have been re-chromed. Back up lights and front turn signal housings and lenses are new. New stainless steel wheel trim and rocker panel molding. New Entropy 26” aluminum radiator with dual puller fans (engine temp never climbed above 205 even during this past summers’s high temps).  A 75-amp PowerMaster chrome alternator was added to handle the 25 extra amps required by the fans.

- Suspension components replaced: MOOG ball joints and tie rod ends, heavy-duty tie rod connectors from Firm Feel, .980” heavy duty torsion bars, stainless steel upper control arms from Just Suspension, KYB Gas-Adjust shocks, leaf springs with a 2” drop from OEM, 1” Hellwig anti-sway bars front and back. Welded-in sub-frame connectors from Mancini Racing, power steering gear box rebuilt by Firm Feel, heater box completely rebuilt and re-glassed including a new blower motor. Works great when cruising around town on a cold day. I even had a frost plug engine heater installed so that you can warm up the engine a bit before taking it out in the winter months.

- Doug Thorley headers with 1 7/8” primaries, 3 inch collector with an X-pipe crossover into 2 1/2 inch exhaust pipes with very aggressive-sounding Flowmaster Super 44 mufflers finished off with correct stainless steel tips.

Now, keep in mind:  This is a 44 year-old vehicle that does have a few minor issues. There are a few paint nicks and scratches on it but overall I would still rate the paint a 7. About the only thing holding this car back from being a big time show winner is the fact that it is not an all-original survivor and would need a professional re-paint. The dash bulb that illuminates the speedometer needs replacing (my hands are too big to get up to it behind the gauge cluster panel), it does not have a glove box or trunk light, ( I have the trunk light wiring and bulb holder that I will give to the winning bidder) the hood-mounted left side turn signal indicator wire needs to be re-soldered. If you live close enough I encourage you to come  look it over in person or send someone to inspect it before purchase.  Bidders with excessive negative feedback or failure to pay status will be barred from bidding as will anyone without any history as an eBay buyer/seller.

'71 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible sells for $3.5M [w/video]

Mon, 16 Jun 2014

We're plenty used to seeing classic cars selling for millions of dollars. It's just that they're usually European: Ferraris, Bugattis, Mercedes and the like. There are some rare American exceptions, usually wearing the names Duesenberg or Shelby. But what we have here is the most expensive Chrysler product ever sold at auction.
The vehicle in question is a Plymouth Barracuda - specifically a 1971 Hemi Cuda Convertible, chassis #BS27R1B315367 - that Mecum Auctions just sold after eight solid minutes of feverish bidding for a high bid of $3.5 million at its auction in Seattle, Washington. That figure positively eclipses the $2.2 million paid for a strikingly similar Hemi Cuda (chassis #BS27R1B269588) fetched nearly seven years ago in Scottsdale and another that was the first muscle car to break the million-dollar mark in 2002.

'Blood Muscle' auction to sell impressive collection of ill-begotten classic cars

Wed, 30 Jul 2014

The old saying goes that if you can't do the time, don't do the crime. But being a criminal can involve more than just taking a trip to the big house; it can also mean losing possessions purchased from any ill-gotten gains. Still, one man's loss is another's gain, and if you're in Lodi, NJ, on September 12, you stand the chance to buy some of the ultimate muscle cars from the US Marshals in what is being gruesomely nicknamed the Blood Muscle auction.
The grisly moniker was earned because all of the vehicles belonged to the president of a blood testing company who is facing prison time for alleged bribery, according to Hemmings. After all, they are muscle cars bought with actual blood money. The seven-vehicle collection includes some of the ultimate muscle cars ever made, and the original buyer clearly had an eye for rarity.
This cornucopia of V8 power includes a teal 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429, a 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang, an orange 1970 Plymouth Superbird, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS convertible and perhaps most prized of all - a trio of 1969 Yenko Chevys with a Chevelle, Nova and Camaro all represented. From the included photos, all of them look to be in fantastic condition.

US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books

Thu, 25 Sep 2014

The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.
