http://s746.photobucket.com/user/cars2k/slideshow/1969%20Plymouth%20Roadrunner%20Blue You’ll feel as though you were transported
back in time to 1969, viewing a nearly-new Plymouth Road Runner.
With continued care, owning this car will
make you feel that way every time you see and drive it.
Currently owned by a prominent, private collector, it enjoys a pampered life; meticulously maintained and
covered in his “man cave”. This
is an extremely fast, reliable muscle car that is turn-key in every way. Some years ago, the Plymouth received a professional, driver quality restoration. The present owner has made additional and substantial improvements both mechanically and cosmetically including a rebuilt rear differential, a complete new exhaust, distributer and suspension components. There is a long list of other work and parts purchased. Everything was professionally done and was not cheap. If you send us a request through eBay messaging, we’ll be happy to email a PDF or fax you all 25 pages. Simply put, it is in OUTSTANDING OVERALL CONDITION. Let’s carefully inspect this fine automobile; inside and out, top to bottom. Exterior: Check out the 2-stage Metallic Blue enamel. Seeing it in person, the finish looks so deep you could dive into it. With the exception of some minor pitting on the chrome door handles (above), the rest of the chrome sparkles like new. Detailed photos above and below reveal a small crack in the sheet metal below the windshield; evidence of a minor, substandard cosmetic repair. If you take time to click the link above and view the slideshow, there are additional, detailed photos of this area around the repair to inspect. You can verify for yourself that there are no apparent structural or rust issues.
Fortunately, there is no
evidence of major collision or rust repair anywhere on the body or chassis.
Photos above and below indicate a slight "dip" in the hood's sheet metal... ...but for a 45 year-old body, she’s still in remarkable, original condition. Check out the factory correct, Firestone SUP-R-BELT Wide Oval G7014 Redlines. Mounted to the original 14” rallys, wheel detail is amazing. Speaking of detail, let us stress how straight the body is, how shiny the bumpers, how glossy the paint: if you wouldn't know differently, you'd think to be looking at a 5-year old, not a 45-year old car. This one is that clean!
How about a peak under the hood? Engine &
Mechanical:
The immaculate engine compartment is Roar Runner correct; right down to the decals and markings. The 383 V-8 engine with 4-speed transmission and rebuilt 3.23 rear differential are all in great running condition. Surprisingly perhaps, the
wiring looks fantastic, the engine always runs cool, and there are no leaks worth
mentioning.
The 8-cylinder power plant with “Air Grabber” intake sounds crisp and runs smoothly, like a turbine, with superb oil pressure, cold or hot. Warmed up, coolant temperature remains absolutely stable,
with no hint of overheating; even after extended runs or in rush hour traffic on
a hot summer day. All in all, the engine, transmission and rear-end are all solid and this Road Runner is mechanically as strong as it is cosmetically. Yes, any Mopar drivetrain
can be very tough and reliable with a bit of preventative maintenance!
Let’s have a detailed look inside now:
Bare-bones functionality highlights this original interior. Some evidence of minor surface rust below the left door (shown above), otherwise, all panels, gaps, fit and finish appear sound.
From the loop carpeting and vinyl seats to the door panels and headliner; everything looks factory fresh. The dash is crack free. All instruments including the RPM gauge work perfectly and the wood grain on the steering wheel looks and feels untouched. The Road Runner “beep-beep” horn is fully functional. The upgraded "retro" thumbwheel AM/FM audio system has an external input which allows you to plug in your iPhone, iPod or MP3 player. With larger (hidden) speakers, it sounds great; even at speeds exceeding double nickel. Gear shift and glove box are
factory correct and like new.
Let’s have a look inside the trunk. A closer look in the spacious trunk shows a nice, custom car cover, matching spare wheel with vintage SUPERWIDE 70 tire and original jack. Be assured, you'll find
zero corrosion in this critical area as well. Let’s
take a peak underneath: Check out all the new bushings, shocks, exhaust, rebuilt rear diff and other cool stuff. A small bubble in the paint seen in the rocker panel above. Otherwise, there is zero evidence of corrosion; only a nice, original, collision free chassis.
Drivability: Paramount to the Muscle Car, driving experience is the element
of unadulterated fun. It starts and idles smoothly, revs and pulls like an F-16
Fighter Jet, shifting smoothly through the gears with no unusual noises or
smoke. Smooth, strong acceleration will pull you into the back of your seat and turn heads coming and going. With rebuilt suspension components, handling and braking are simple and superb with no rattles, shakes, shimmies pulling or fading. Mind you; there are no power brakes, power steering or power assisted thinking here. Only you, the car and the highway... All in
all, this Road Runner is a thoroughly convincing
performer. This
is a timeless beauty… The

'Blood Muscle' auction to sell impressive collection of ill-begotten classic cars
Wed, 30 Jul 2014The old saying goes that if you can't do the time, don't do the crime. But being a criminal can involve more than just taking a trip to the big house; it can also mean losing possessions purchased from any ill-gotten gains. Still, one man's loss is another's gain, and if you're in Lodi, NJ, on September 12, you stand the chance to buy some of the ultimate muscle cars from the US Marshals in what is being gruesomely nicknamed the Blood Muscle auction.
The grisly moniker was earned because all of the vehicles belonged to the president of a blood testing company who is facing prison time for alleged bribery, according to Hemmings. After all, they are muscle cars bought with actual blood money. The seven-vehicle collection includes some of the ultimate muscle cars ever made, and the original buyer clearly had an eye for rarity.
This cornucopia of V8 power includes a teal 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429, a 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang, an orange 1970 Plymouth Superbird, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS convertible and perhaps most prized of all - a trio of 1969 Yenko Chevys with a Chevelle, Nova and Camaro all represented. From the included photos, all of them look to be in fantastic condition.
'71 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible sells for $3.5M [w/video]
Mon, 16 Jun 2014
We're plenty used to seeing classic cars selling for millions of dollars. It's just that they're usually European: Ferraris, Bugattis, Mercedes and the like. There are some rare American exceptions, usually wearing the names Duesenberg or Shelby. But what we have here is the most expensive Chrysler product ever sold at auction.
The vehicle in question is a Plymouth Barracuda - specifically a 1971 Hemi Cuda Convertible, chassis #BS27R1B315367 - that Mecum Auctions just sold after eight solid minutes of feverish bidding for a high bid of $3.5 million at its auction in Seattle, Washington. That figure positively eclipses the $2.2 million paid for a strikingly similar Hemi Cuda (chassis #BS27R1B269588) fetched nearly seven years ago in Scottsdale and another that was the first muscle car to break the million-dollar mark in 2002.
US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books
Thu, 25 Sep 2014The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.
