Up for auction this week is a 1971 Plymouth Road Runner. It is equipped NOM 383 Magnum engine backed by a 727 Torqueflite transmission. This is an original GW3 white car with black interior. This is a great running driving car that needs cosmetic restoration. It also has power steering and power brakes. The rear is 8 3/4 suregrip. The wheels are correct 14" rallyes. The structure of this Road Runner is very solid with no rust in the frame rails or torsion bar mounts. This car will need rust repair at the wheel lips and lower rear of both quarters. Now that quarter skins are available, it would probably be best to replace both skins. There is only one spot in the floor pan that needs repair directly in front of the seat there is a hole about 8" in diameter that will need repaired. The doors need repair at the lower corners only. There is one spot on the driver's side of the vinyl top that will need a small patch put in at the top of the post. The trunk floor is very nice and does NOT need to be replaced. The hood and decklid are also very nice. The interior was originally a black bench, automatic on column. The bucket seats in the car now are very comfortable, but very wrong. The original seat cover is on the back seat under the red cloth cover on it now. The door panels are excellent and so is the dashpad. The headliner will need to be replaced because of stitching coming out between seams. The car has a new winshield and all other glass is good. This is a good driving car and cranks great every time out. The brakes are very good on the road, but a little hard idling in traffic due to the camshaft in the engine. (Purple Shaft) This is a great car to restore because you can know that the mechanicals are all good and only cosmetic issues exist. Drive this car the rest of the summer and easily restore it over the winter. This car sounds great and is strong. Here is a listing of the fender tag.

Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars

Sat, 18 Jan 2014

The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson. See it yourself in our high-res image gallery above, and scroll down below for the official auction description.

'Blood Muscle' auction to sell impressive collection of ill-begotten classic cars

Wed, 30 Jul 2014

The old saying goes that if you can't do the time, don't do the crime. But being a criminal can involve more than just taking a trip to the big house; it can also mean losing possessions purchased from any ill-gotten gains. Still, one man's loss is another's gain, and if you're in Lodi, NJ, on September 12, you stand the chance to buy some of the ultimate muscle cars from the US Marshals in what is being gruesomely nicknamed the Blood Muscle auction.
The grisly moniker was earned because all of the vehicles belonged to the president of a blood testing company who is facing prison time for alleged bribery, according to Hemmings. After all, they are muscle cars bought with actual blood money. The seven-vehicle collection includes some of the ultimate muscle cars ever made, and the original buyer clearly had an eye for rarity.
This cornucopia of V8 power includes a teal 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429, a 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang, an orange 1970 Plymouth Superbird, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS convertible and perhaps most prized of all - a trio of 1969 Yenko Chevys with a Chevelle, Nova and Camaro all represented. From the included photos, all of them look to be in fantastic condition.

'71 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible sells for $3.5M [w/video]

Mon, 16 Jun 2014

We're plenty used to seeing classic cars selling for millions of dollars. It's just that they're usually European: Ferraris, Bugattis, Mercedes and the like. There are some rare American exceptions, usually wearing the names Duesenberg or Shelby. But what we have here is the most expensive Chrysler product ever sold at auction.
The vehicle in question is a Plymouth Barracuda - specifically a 1971 Hemi Cuda Convertible, chassis #BS27R1B315367 - that Mecum Auctions just sold after eight solid minutes of feverish bidding for a high bid of $3.5 million at its auction in Seattle, Washington. That figure positively eclipses the $2.2 million paid for a strikingly similar Hemi Cuda (chassis #BS27R1B269588) fetched nearly seven years ago in Scottsdale and another that was the first muscle car to break the million-dollar mark in 2002.
