1957 Plymouth Belvedere 4dr sedan

This car is equipped with a Poly 301 V8 2bbl and a pushbutton Powerflite, 2 speed automatic transmission. Car has dual exhaust. The intake manifold and carburetor appears to be a 1966 dated manifold. The accelerator linkage was modified to work with the newer style throttle control. Could be easily returned to factory specs by adding a pre '61 2bbl carb. The car starts and runs and I have driven around the yard. Currently I am running the car by hotwire as the ignition switch is missing. The fuel pump operates fine but I have not tried pumping gas through the gas tank. I've been running the car off an auxiliary tank under the hood. The engine doesn't make any noises or smoke and seems to run very well.

The brakes work and stop the car reasonably well. The transmission feels strong and It does shift into second gear. I have not driven the car on the highway. Of course one should inspect the brakes and go through the drivetrain prior to driving on the road just for safety.

The body is solid and the floors are near perfect. There appears to be some filler on the drivers front fender top and the passenger rocker. Other than that it appears to be pretty straight. The paint looks pretty decent but it is an amateur paint job. The interior needs some work. The seats need recovering and the headliner and sunvisors need replacing. The carpet could stand to be replaced as it looks like outdoor house type carpet. Driver's door glass has a crack but its flat glass and can easily be replaced by having a new one cut at a glass shop. Door panels are useable.

The previous owner installed aftermarket gauges and it appears that the amp gauge may have shorted. The wiring may have been affected.

The tires are okay, and hold air. Still have plenty of tread but are probably several years old.

The missing trim on the back glass is inside the car. There are some gaps in the rear glass gasket that need to be sealed.

The car does not have any power options. She is a manual brake and manual steering car. And the Air Conditioning works by rolling down the windows! The car is equipped with a factory AM radio. The antenna is missing however. The car also has a day/night rear view mirror. Also someone added a rearview mirror to the roof. Double mirrors for double safety? The factory mirror is still on the dash.

With a little work this car could be back on the road in no time. She's a very good looking car. The yellow and white two tone paint really has that 1950s look. And whats better than fins reaching to the sky? You definitely don't see the Plymouths very often. And yes this car is similar to the Christine car from the movie. The new owner may wish to go that route but its up to them!

Clear Arizona Title.

US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books

Thu, 25 Sep 2014

The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.

SRT belatedly claims Plymouth Prowler as one of its own

Wed, 19 Dec 2012

Before Chrysler had Street and Racing Technology, it had Performance Vehicle Operations. What the two entities have in common, before SRT became its own brand, of course, is that each was created to take Chrysler and Dodge (and Plymouth, before it was unceremoniously killed off) vehicles to the next level of style and performance.
We'll leave the question of whether or not the old Plymouth (and later Chrysler) Prowler was ultimately a stylish, performance-oriented car to you, but the boys and girls currently leading the SRT charge at the Pentastar headquarters are keen to accept the retro-rod into the fold.
According to the automaker, all of SRT's current high-performance models owe a debt of gratitude to the old Prowler, due mostly to that car's use of lightweight bits and pieces and innovative construction techniques. If nothing else, the fact that the Prowler's frame is "the largest machined automotive part in history" is pretty cool. Read all the details here.

Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars

Sat, 18 Jan 2014

The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson. See it yourself in our high-res image gallery above, and scroll down below for the official auction description.
