Up for sale is this 1957 Plymouth Belvedere 2 door hardtop.

From what I can tell the car was originally optioned as followed:

  • Desert Gold with Sand Dune White top and Sportone
  • 301 V8
  • Dual Exhaust
  • Torqueflite pushbutton automatic transmission
  • Power Steering
  • Power Brakes
  • Solex Glass
  • Bumper Wings
  • Padded Dash and sun visors
  • Radio w/ rear seat speaker
This car has been parked since the early 80s judging by the last sticker on the plate. The car does have both of her California black plates. Tires are just rollers. Has four original full wheel covers.

The car's body is pretty solid. The paint has got it's "California Suntan" or "Patina" as others like to say. The passenger side quarter and rocker panel needs repair. The passenger side stone guard is in the trunk. The floors seem solid but the passenger front pan is weak. The trunk floor is solid but has some issues towards the rear of the car. (Note the photos.) The glass is intact and in good shape. The gaskets need attention. Car has all four bumper wings in nice shape. All the sportone stainless is there.

As you can see the interior is pretty well worn out. The seat covers are pretty well gone. The door panels are there but have water damage. Card headliner has fallen in. The passenger side section is still intact and probably could be saved. Sun visors are in surprisingly good shape. There's another set in the trunk as well. An underdash A/C unit installed at some point. Everything is present except for a compressor and brackets. The keys are in the ignition.

The engine is partially disassembled. A 2bbl intake will be included as well as a Torqueflite transmission, but are sold as buildable cores. Obviously you can't drive this car. It is a sure bet the brakes will need attention as well. The driveshaft, generator, radiator, etc. is in the trunk. (Again see the photos)

This car is just like the 1957 Belvedere dug up in 2007 in Tulsa, OK. It fared much better sitting outside than in a time capsule. The car could be left as is and fixed up enough to be driven in this "ratty" condition or restored to her former glory. This would also make a good base for a Christine car. Most of the hard to find parts are there. If you know anything about 1957-1958 Plymouths then you know the value of the bumper wings, deluxe wheel, sportone, etc. The car does need a lot of work but she is a very desirable model.

Maybe you want to walk around in a back brace and tell stories about the car?
Maybe you want to drive around with the radio on and not a care in the world?
Maybe you just want to park the car in your front yard and gaze upon this finned wonder everyday?
Maybe you want to be the envy of all your neighbors?

This car could do any of those and much more! You are the decider!

Clear California title.

SRT belatedly claims Plymouth Prowler as one of its own

Wed, 19 Dec 2012

Before Chrysler had Street and Racing Technology, it had Performance Vehicle Operations. What the two entities have in common, before SRT became its own brand, of course, is that each was created to take Chrysler and Dodge (and Plymouth, before it was unceremoniously killed off) vehicles to the next level of style and performance.
We'll leave the question of whether or not the old Plymouth (and later Chrysler) Prowler was ultimately a stylish, performance-oriented car to you, but the boys and girls currently leading the SRT charge at the Pentastar headquarters are keen to accept the retro-rod into the fold.
According to the automaker, all of SRT's current high-performance models owe a debt of gratitude to the old Prowler, due mostly to that car's use of lightweight bits and pieces and innovative construction techniques. If nothing else, the fact that the Prowler's frame is "the largest machined automotive part in history" is pretty cool. Read all the details here.

US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books

Thu, 25 Sep 2014

The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.

Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars

Sat, 18 Jan 2014

The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson. See it yourself in our high-res image gallery above, and scroll down below for the official auction description.
