1976 Plymouth Fury. Far from perfect, but in very good shape where it matters. This car was built in Detroit and sold in Tennessee. It was with one family in Tennessee for over 20 years, then the widow moved to Illinois and stored it until 1993, when she sold it locally with 72,000 miles. That owner had it 10 years, adding about 6000 miles. I have had it just a short time, about 50 miles worth. It has an Illinois title in my name. It has been garage kept it's entire life. Today may have been the first time it ever saw snow.
It has well worn dark green (Deep Sherwood) original paint. It has some minor damage to the passenger side where it hit the garage early in life. There are some very minor blemishes on the driver side. The hood, roof and trunk are blemish free. There is not a spot of rust anywhere on the body. There is light surface rust on the frame, and the underside in general is better than expected. The chrome is in excellent shape, with the only blemish being a less than dime sized area on the rear bumper where there is a small area of age, smaller than a dime (pictured). All of the glass is excellent. One amber reflector is cracked. All lights work, 1 of 4 rear turn signal bulbs doesn't blink. All rubber trim looks better than its age. The tires have good tread and the hubcaps are in good shape.
The 318ci motor starts right away, even in our recent 20 degree weather. There are no leaks, no ticks or other odd sounds and it sounds great when revved. It has plenty of get up and go. It doesn't smoke or smell, run hot or burn oil. It drives straight and has good power steering. It has disc brakes in front and drums in the back. I think the brakes need some attention. The back end groans when going over bigger bumps and likely needs springs or shocks or such.
The interior is original and the bench seats do not have any stains, rips or other blemishes. They are a cool metallic green color. There is a crack in a panel behind the back seat on the driver side. The dash and gauges are excellent, the dashboard has not faded but does have a small split on top but it is only a few inches long as it ends at the speaker cover. The fuel gauge sensor needs replacing. Just this week, the speedometer needle started wiggling slightly, maybe its related to the cold. The A/C needs a recharge. The AM radio doesn't work. The carpet is in decent shape.

My first choice locally in my price range was a sedan with fins from 1960 but it sold. This Fury was my second choice. Shortly after I bought it, the sale on the first car fell through. I bought the first car and now need to sell this one. It's a cool car. It's solid where it counts and runs great.

The valve covers and some of the motor were spray painted several years ago. Aside from that, I believe everything to be original (not the battery or the tires).

The headliner is perfect. It is a light green vinyl type material. You can see in the pics the trim cove around the door openings has pulled away in some spots, but it is in great shape. The sill plates just need to be loosened and the cove pushed back into place.

Yesterday was 60 degrees so I took a drive to the mechanic. Many of you have asked if this car could handle a long drive home. I wanted to be sure I could answer the question accurately. The motor is strong. No issues there. All of the head lights, brake lights and turn signals work. Starts, shifts no problem. Good power steering. The defroster works. The heater works. The tires are good. We drove over bumps and up and down drive ways and could not reproduce the suspension noises I had heard before, so those don't appear to be any type of issue driving from a to b. One left turn signal bulb does not work, but there are two blinkers on each side. The only issue of attention required before longer driving is the brakes. The mechanic diagnosed air in the lines and will bleed the brakes. The mechanical assist works, the brakes themselves are satisfactory, there is just air in the lines. There is also a mild whomp whomp noise coming from the left rear side and he will determine if it is a tire flat spot or other. Also at that time he will be able to inspect the rear suspension. His feedback and the services performed will be posted here by noon cst Monday, so please check back if this is of interest to you. This auction ends later that evening. Also, the A/C compressor appears to need a conversion and a recharge. The mechanic pointed out the A/C condenser is big enough to cool a house. It is as big as the radiator and it is dual core, so those bidding from the south - this old car will keep you cool.

US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books
Thu, 25 Sep 2014The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.
'Blood Muscle' auction to sell impressive collection of ill-begotten classic cars

But being a criminal can involve more than just taking a trip to the big house; it can also mean losing possessions purchased from any ill-gotten gains. Still, one man's loss is another's gain, and if you're in Lodi, NJ, on September 12, you stand the chance to buy some of the ultimate muscle cars from the US Marshals in what is being gruesomely nicknamed the Blood Muscle auction.
The grisly moniker was earned because all of the vehicles belonged to the president of a blood testing company who is facing prison time for alleged bribery, according to Hemmings. After all, they are muscle cars bought with actual blood money. The seven-vehicle collection includes some of the ultimate muscle cars ever made, and the original buyer clearly had an eye for rarity.
This cornucopia of V8 power includes a teal 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429, a 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang, an orange 1970 Plymouth Superbird, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS convertible and perhaps most prized of all - a trio of 1969 Yenko Chevys with a Chevelle, Nova and Camaro all represented. From the included photos, all of them look to be in fantastic condition.

Sat, 18 Jan 2014The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson.
