1968 Plymouth Fury Ii, 318-4v, 727, Highly Original on 2040-cars
Jamestown, New York, United States
INTRODUCTION AND DESCRIPTION You are viewing my 1968 Fury II four door sedan. The engine and transmission, the 318 cubic inch V8 and a 727 automatic transmission, are numbers-matching and this Fury has just over 78,000 original miles (undocumented). Before I bought it in 2002, it spent its whole life in the Northwest United States, I bought this car to use as a donor sheet-metal car for a 1968 Fury I police car restoration. But when I got it home I noted it was just too nice a car to tear up. Se we went through it, replacing many parts (many of the expendable parts were decades old) and dressing up the engine, and finally refinishing the entire vehicle (single stage Urethane – a low-end but presentable job) in its original "Bright Blue Metallic" color (code QQ1). Originally a 2-barrel application, this Plymouth still had its original air induction system (air cleaner, heat riser, ducting, etc.) and is shown in the trunk photo and will be included with the car. These 318 V8’s from this era had pretty good power (230 horses, 340 ft.lbs torque) but I decided to install an Edelbrock aluminum intake and a new, matching 500 CFM 4-barrel carburetor (with electric choke). I also added dual exhaust with mellow-sounding turbo mufflers. I no longer have the the original carburetor and intake but they can readily be reacquired as good used pieces. This Fury runs and drives very well. It still needs lead additives and compression in each cylinder is still good too. The brakes (four wheel drum), shocks, hoses, belts, coolant flush and fill, transmission maintenance, and oil and chassis lube have all been recently done. Transmission operates fine in all gears and all speeds. The car was manufactured without air conditioning. The original, body-colored 15x5.5 steel wheels and vintage dog dishes is the wheel/tire configuration this Fury will have if purchased. The tires are 215/70-15's, an older Firestone-brand vintage, but in good shape (newer tires should be considered if you intend to drive this car everyday). Unfortunately, the tire shop that mounted the wheels did not know that the original studs on driver side were RH drive, so we had to replace the driver side front wheel lugs with LH drive studs. I had the J-Body "10 spokes" with older Penta-star centers and with the vintage Polysteels when I drove it. But, please note that that wheel/tire combo does not come with the car. We can of course talk about the aluminum wheels separately if you are the winning bidder. The Polysteels are not for sale under any circumstances. There are minor areas along deck lid underside, the door edges that will need attention in the future if you intend to leave this car outdoors year-round..right now its only minor scale that could be easily addressed if you find it objectionable. The sub-frame, uni-body attachment points, and trunk/floor pans are rock-solid with no rust through, repair, or damage of any kind. The lower quarters, fenders, and rockers are all original metal as well. There are minor surface defects in the finish on a few areas of the body. Chrome and stainless trim is complete, is driver-quality and in condition consistent with its age (patina in the form of dulling, pitting, scratches, etc.). All the glass is good. The driver-side rear door handle is balky. The driver door mirror needs to be adjusted again after each door closure..a bit of an annoyance. The seats are original and show some sun-fading, staining, and a defect in the driver seat area. The dash has two thin cracks, and the carpet could use replacement. The door panels are in good shape. The headliner is original but has some noticeable staining and other minor defects. The steering wheel has significant cracking/missing material in the plastic encasement. The radio is original but the reception is very poor. This 1968 Fury II sedan is a neat old cruiser. Its not overstated in its appearance and performance, and it you wanted to take its preservation further, or really modify it substantially, you have a strong foundation to build from. I hope it finds another caretaker for another few decades.
AUCTION SUCCESS CONSIDERATIONS I have established a reasonable reserve (reserve will not be revealed while the auction is running) for this 1968 Fury II sedan. Please consider bidding during the auction to the extent and level you deem appropriate and based on whatever factors are important to you. Note that I reserve the right to end this auction at any time at my sole discretion. If you have not made any bids, or if you are not in front of me in person, please do not ask me for a BIN (Buy-It- Now) price, during or after the auction, unless you accompany your inquiry with a potential offer you would like to discuss. If for whatever reason you decide not to bid, or are unable to bid, or choose not to provide a value indication with any inquiry, we will not have a good basis to discuss the car. If reserve is not met, I may provide Second Chance Offers (SCO) through the Ebay system, but note that this is only possible with people who actually bid during the auction. If you get a SCO (which is a Buy-It-Now auction that only the seller and the bidder to whom it was sent can access), it will only come through, the Ebay system (meaning it will appear in your Ebay mailbox) and it will be for a 24-hour duration. Depending on where the recorded bidding ends, and if the reserve is not met, I may also write the high bidder(s) through the Ebay system only, one at a time in the order of their final recorded bids, to discuss the item. If I do not hear back from a bidder within 24 hours after writing them, I will assume that person is not interested and I may move on to the next person. I am sorry in advance for the following realizing it will not apply to the vast majority of responsible Ebay members: Encountering non-paying or unresponsive bidders is a very disruptive event that makes the auction experience unpleasant for both the seller and any legitimate potential buyer(s). Please BE SURE BEFORE YOU BID that you have done whatever you need to do to STAND BEHIND the actual bid(s) YOU MADE and were recorded during the auction. Because of a tendency to simply misunderstand or just outright ignore Ebay and seller auction requirements, bidders with less than 5 (five) feedback ratings may, at my discretion have their bids canceled (I may or may not try to contact you before canceling your bid) and then blocked from further bidding on this auction unless they contact me in advance of bidding. Bidders who make and then cancel their bid(s) will also be blocked from further bidding on this auction. Bidders outside the continental United States are welcome to bid but also must email me before bidding to discuss important payment and shipping procedures. INSPECTION AND WARRANTY INFORMATION Please ask any questions that you may have that may not have been answered by this detailed listing narrative and visual media attachments. My listings are constructed in complete sentences in order to communicate my knowledge of important facts and to encourage independent thoughts and then any questions from interested parties. But respectfully, I do not know what is important to you that may not have been discussed or depicted herein unless you ask me. Any and all relevant and appropriate questions you submit while the auction is running will be answered promptly and as thoroughly as possible by email only to ensure clarity of any correspondences. Given that this is a used vehicle, please do not have unreasonable expectations as to its current condition or future condition under your ownership. Also given its obvious age, this vehicle represents whatever standards of quality and workmanship that existed when it was built, so comparisons to improved build standards of today's vehicles is not appropriate. Your bid forms the basis for a binding, legally enforceable contract. As such, if you require it, please make all pre-purchase inspections (at the sole expense of the bidder) before committing to purchase the vehicle. Inspections can be done by appointment only by you or your designated inspection service. Although I believe I have described and depicted (with high-resolution media) this vehicle accurately, please note that this vehicle is sold "as-is, where-is” with no express or implied warranties or guarantees of any kind. PAYMENT AND STORAGE A $500 deposit is required from the winning bidder, due electronically via PayPal within 24 hours after the auction ends, to hold the vehicle. I will not be accepting trades. Full payment is due within 3 days of auction end via cash, bank-to-bank or wire transfer, or certified bank check (drawn on a major US bank). Clear title in my name is in hand and vehicle can be scheduled for buyer pickup by appointment at anytime after full payment is received and cleared. I can hold the vehicle in indoor storage for 15 days (or longer, if weather or other uncontrollable factors emerge) at no charge to the winning bidder after the auction (the charge is $15.00 per day after 15 days). Thank you for viewing my auction. |

Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars
Sat, 18 Jan 2014The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson. See it yourself in our high-res image gallery above, and scroll down below for the official auction description.

'71 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible sells for $3.5M [w/video]
Mon, 16 Jun 2014
We're plenty used to seeing classic cars selling for millions of dollars. It's just that they're usually European: Ferraris, Bugattis, Mercedes and the like. There are some rare American exceptions, usually wearing the names Duesenberg or Shelby. But what we have here is the most expensive Chrysler product ever sold at auction.
The vehicle in question is a Plymouth Barracuda - specifically a 1971 Hemi Cuda Convertible, chassis #BS27R1B315367 - that Mecum Auctions just sold after eight solid minutes of feverish bidding for a high bid of $3.5 million at its auction in Seattle, Washington. That figure positively eclipses the $2.2 million paid for a strikingly similar Hemi Cuda (chassis #BS27R1B269588) fetched nearly seven years ago in Scottsdale and another that was the first muscle car to break the million-dollar mark in 2002.
US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books
Thu, 25 Sep 2014The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.
