1964 Plymouth Sport Fury Convertible on 2040-cars
Scottsdale, Arizona, United States
I bought a new 1964 Plymouth in April of 1964. I came back to these great 1964 Plymouths about 12 years ago. Of the 64's I have looked at or had in these years, this by far has the nicest Factory Original interior! The odometer reads 79,827 miles and that is believed to be the original miles. The original color of this car was a medium bronze with matching interior. It was repainted about 12 years ago to the original color. The paint is excellent with very few flaws! There are no bubbles anywhere in the paint! There is no evidence it was ever in an accident! A magnet will hold anywhere on the car. The doors close with a light push as they did when the car was new! The car was undercoated when new and the undercoating is still there. The outside cast trim was rechromed and the stainless trim was polished. The aluminum side trim is original with its factory engine turned swirls and has some small "other car" door marks in it. The original floor is solid and the cowl is solid. It has a near new black top and it's original top boot looks and fits very well! The top is electric/hydraulic driven, and goes down fast and up slow. ALL the glass, including the windshield, is Factory Original, with the Forward Look logo on each piece, with NO cracks or clouding! The four tires are almost new, with very good original Sport Fury hub caps. The spare tire is old. The original trunk mat is still in place and all the tire hold down and tire changing parts are in place. In the trunk you can see the original top well drain tubes extended down still in their original locations! It had a 318 engine that was upgraded to a rebuilt 440 Magnum engine with it's original factory chrome valve covers! It starts and runs excellent and has great power! It has an automatic transmission shifted with the original console floor shifter. It has factory power steering. The rear end is an 8 3/4 with a 3.23 gear ratio. The exhaust is good and the brakes are good. The interior has it's Factory Original door and rear panels, ALL Factory Original seats, front and back, and ALL in excellent original condition! The dash is in excellent original condition with all gauges working. The AM radio is static only. The dash pad is original and excellent! The console chrome is very nice with some small marks and too nice to re do. The top latches and chrome window trim look like new! The car is documented with a clear title, a copy of the cover of the original owners manual, and a copy of the Original Window Sticker. A very unique situation with the 1964 Plymouth Sport Fury is the subtle badging Plymouth put on and in the car. At that moment in time we were in the "Cold War" with Russia. Plymouth wanted to solidify our USA position. It was done with the seven Red, White and Blue USA flag colors on emblems, and the six rocket ship badges on and in the car! There were only 3858 Sport Fury convertibles built in 1964. There are very few that survived in this condition and maybe only a handful with their interior as fine as this one has and as well preserved as this! This is a very rare updated near survivor! I have had this car for four years. I will be 70 this year, and it is now time that someone else enjoys this great car! 1964 may have been the finest year for Plymouth with nine engines to choose from. Plymouth finished First, Second and Third in the Daytona 500!!! The nine engine options for 1964; 1] 225 ci slant six. 2] 318 ci V8 2bl. 3] 361 ci V8 2bl. 4] 383 ci V8 4bl. 5] 426 ci V8 4bl. 6] 426 ci V8 11.5 cr. 2 4bl. 7] 426 ci V8 13.5 cr. 2 4 bl. 8] 426 ci V8 2 4bl. Hemi Steel HT. 9] 426 ci V8 2 4bl. Hemi Lt. Wt. What's not to like about 64 Plymouths? They look like they are moving when they are standing still!!! six five one five nine two five three three two. Call anytime. Thank you. |

SRT belatedly claims Plymouth Prowler as one of its own
Wed, 19 Dec 2012Before Chrysler had Street and Racing Technology, it had Performance Vehicle Operations. What the two entities have in common, before SRT became its own brand, of course, is that each was created to take Chrysler and Dodge (and Plymouth, before it was unceremoniously killed off) vehicles to the next level of style and performance.
We'll leave the question of whether or not the old Plymouth (and later Chrysler) Prowler was ultimately a stylish, performance-oriented car to you, but the boys and girls currently leading the SRT charge at the Pentastar headquarters are keen to accept the retro-rod into the fold.
According to the automaker, all of SRT's current high-performance models owe a debt of gratitude to the old Prowler, due mostly to that car's use of lightweight bits and pieces and innovative construction techniques. If nothing else, the fact that the Prowler's frame is "the largest machined automotive part in history" is pretty cool. Read all the details here.
Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars
Sat, 18 Jan 2014The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson. See it yourself in our high-res image gallery above, and scroll down below for the official auction description.

'Blood Muscle' auction to sell impressive collection of ill-begotten classic cars
Wed, 30 Jul 2014The old saying goes that if you can't do the time, don't do the crime. But being a criminal can involve more than just taking a trip to the big house; it can also mean losing possessions purchased from any ill-gotten gains. Still, one man's loss is another's gain, and if you're in Lodi, NJ, on September 12, you stand the chance to buy some of the ultimate muscle cars from the US Marshals in what is being gruesomely nicknamed the Blood Muscle auction.
The grisly moniker was earned because all of the vehicles belonged to the president of a blood testing company who is facing prison time for alleged bribery, according to Hemmings. After all, they are muscle cars bought with actual blood money. The seven-vehicle collection includes some of the ultimate muscle cars ever made, and the original buyer clearly had an eye for rarity.
This cornucopia of V8 power includes a teal 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429, a 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang, an orange 1970 Plymouth Superbird, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS convertible and perhaps most prized of all - a trio of 1969 Yenko Chevys with a Chevelle, Nova and Camaro all represented. From the included photos, all of them look to be in fantastic condition.
