1972 Plymouth Duster 340 4-speed Plum Crazy Purple White Interior on 2040-cars
Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, United States
1972 Plymouth Duster 340c.i., 4-speed,
FC7 Plum crazy purple, white interior, bucket seats, factory AM radio, centerline
wheels, 8 3/4 rear end and 3.91 posi gears, tuff wheel, white 340 Duster side and
trunk stripes, black hood treatment, dual exhaust with correct chrome tips, and
just completed a very nice light restoration on this super nice Plum Crazy 340
Duster! The Duster was a factory 318 car
that was upgraded with the 340 (1971 steel crank) (date code 7-1-70). The Duster is an absolutely awesome
car. It is an excellent all purpose car for shows, cruises and cruising! I
would best describe it as a nice driver with a nice overall appearance as it
does have a few minor paint flaws. Please call me if you are a serious buyer
and I will go into exact detail so you know everything about the Duster!
Thanks! PAINT, BODY AND FRAME The body is very straight and in very
good shape. All of the Duster’s body numbers match on the radiator support,
trunk, door VIN decal and the VIN tag. The
Duster is an all original sheet metal car with exception to the lower quarter’s
having some small work done. The quarters, floor boards, doors, fenders and
trunk extensions are all in great shape and appear to be original. The frame is
in very good shape and the undercarriage is also very clean and neat with no
rust. The paint was done over 10 years
ago but still looks excellent! There are no paint blisters or bubbles anywhere.
There are a few small chips that were brush touched and a few minor flaws in
the paint but again it looks very good for it’s age. The super high-gloss deep
clear coat shine was professionally wet sanded with 1200 and 1500 grit paper to
achieve a high caliber ultra finish. The body is very nice and has excellent
panel fit. I would call it a very nice driver quality paint job and not an all
out show car paint job. There are a few minor marks on the fender tops (forward)
and a small blemish in the clear on the RH quarter just above the white
stripe. The blacked out hood looks very
good but does have a few very small dings (dime size). I just had the RH door and quarter painted
(had a couple scratches and couple of small blisters fixed) and it looks great but
there is a slight color indifference at the door to front fender. It seems that in direct sunlight it looks
very close then sometimes in lower lighting you can notice it more. Just want to be upfront so you know what you
are getting. GLASS, CHROME AND TRIM The glass is in very good condition
and only has a few small minor scratches. All windows operate and line-up
perfectly. The front and rear bumpers have been re-chromed. The door handles,
remote mirror and inside/outside door handles are also in very nice condition.
The trim is clean and was polished for optimum shine. The front grill was
restored, painted and looks great. INTERIOR The white interior is in excellent
shape and has newer seat covers, front arm rest bezels and pads, trunk divider
and carpet. All factory gauges work and operate correctly. The factory dash pad is in excellent shape with no cracks and the dash cluster is also in very good condition. New Auto-meter oil
and water gauges were added for accuracy. The All lighting works as should
including the high/low beams, dome light, reverse lights, tail lights, parking
lights, turn signals and four-way flashers. The complete heater box was
restored and had a new heater core installed. The fan motor, defrosters,
wipers, horn and E-brake all work. The factory AM radio also works! DRIVE TRAIN The strong running 340 makes
excellent power and runs great. This engine runs extremely strong and very easy
to drive in any given traffic condition. It was rebuilt several years ago by a
professional engine shop. The 340 has
been freshened up with new gaskets, seals, 2.02 heads just redone, newer intake
and holley 4-bbl. carb. The 4-speed transmission feels excellent and shifts
beautiful through the gears and is an absolute blast to drive! We just did the clutch (Mcleod), pressure
plate, flywheel (new/steel) and through- out bearing. The 340 has a nice healthy street cam in it
and sounds very good even at idle! It has excellent drivability and cools well
even in stop and go traffic. NEW/NEWER ITEMS ON CAR

US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books
Thu, 25 Sep 2014The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.
'Blood Muscle' auction to sell impressive collection of ill-begotten classic cars
Wed, 30 Jul 2014The old saying goes that if you can't do the time, don't do the crime. But being a criminal can involve more than just taking a trip to the big house; it can also mean losing possessions purchased from any ill-gotten gains. Still, one man's loss is another's gain, and if you're in Lodi, NJ, on September 12, you stand the chance to buy some of the ultimate muscle cars from the US Marshals in what is being gruesomely nicknamed the Blood Muscle auction.
The grisly moniker was earned because all of the vehicles belonged to the president of a blood testing company who is facing prison time for alleged bribery, according to Hemmings. After all, they are muscle cars bought with actual blood money. The seven-vehicle collection includes some of the ultimate muscle cars ever made, and the original buyer clearly had an eye for rarity.
This cornucopia of V8 power includes a teal 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429, a 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang, an orange 1970 Plymouth Superbird, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS convertible and perhaps most prized of all - a trio of 1969 Yenko Chevys with a Chevelle, Nova and Camaro all represented. From the included photos, all of them look to be in fantastic condition.
SRT belatedly claims Plymouth Prowler as one of its own
Wed, 19 Dec 2012Before Chrysler had Street and Racing Technology, it had Performance Vehicle Operations. What the two entities have in common, before SRT became its own brand, of course, is that each was created to take Chrysler and Dodge (and Plymouth, before it was unceremoniously killed off) vehicles to the next level of style and performance.
We'll leave the question of whether or not the old Plymouth (and later Chrysler) Prowler was ultimately a stylish, performance-oriented car to you, but the boys and girls currently leading the SRT charge at the Pentastar headquarters are keen to accept the retro-rod into the fold.
According to the automaker, all of SRT's current high-performance models owe a debt of gratitude to the old Prowler, due mostly to that car's use of lightweight bits and pieces and innovative construction techniques. If nothing else, the fact that the Prowler's frame is "the largest machined automotive part in history" is pretty cool. Read all the details here.
