1973 Plymouth Cuda Barracuda 500 Cid on 2040-cars
Denver, Colorado, United States
With a pedigree of some 14 Open Road Races, most of which have maintained speeds of 160-190 mph. Arguably the fastest (not quickest) real 'Cuda on the planet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vh09RK2GLP4 This "Fish" will cruise at 195mph....'nuff said......A couple of things up front..... I would prefer to sell to someone who will continue to race the car. The car is STREET LEGAL in Colorado. Yes it could be "brought back" to stock HOWEVER it would need a new dash pad and trunk floor. The cage and seat reinforcing plates could be removed but the frame connectors would be a major issue so I would advise against removing them. Plus they strengthen up the "frame" (no flex) considerably. TRANSMISSION 833 Overdrive Stock Chrysler Pistol Grip 3rd Gear is 1:1 4th Gear is .73:1 All new seals and gaskets, All internals have been Cryogenically treated for added strength. 500" MOTOR PARTS Block Stock Iron Date Coded 5-18-77 Stock Timing Cover and Balancer Balancing By Denver Balancing Indy Alum Max Wedge Heads All Head work, Porting by Hughes Engines Eagle Crankshaft And H Beam Rods CP Pistons Rings and Pins All Bearings are Clevite with Calico Coatings Billet Main Seal 2 piece from Mancini Racing Howe Alum Radiator Cometic MLS Head Gaskets MSD 6AL Ignition K&N Breathers Custom Air Cleaner with K&N element and filtered lid Accel 8mm wires Hughes Engines Solid Camshaft,Lift .587/.594 With 1.5 Rockers, Duration @ .050 260/264 Lobe Sep 108', Solid Lifters, Custom Cut Pushrods, Rocker Shafts,Valve Springs, Over size Intake vakves, One Piece Valley Pan Mopar Performance Oil Pump, Hemi Oil Pan, Windage Tray,Water Pump and Housing, Electronic Distributor, Valve Covers, Oil Pickup, Dist Drive Shaft Edelbrock Single Plane Intake, 440 Super Victor, Ported and polished by Hughes Engines Holley 1000 cfm Carb, No Choke, Mech Secondaries, Performance modified by Bill Pink Carbs DRIVELINE AND AXLE All parts are new when rebuilt and put together with any heavy duty applications I could find. 2.76 Ratio with stock bearings. Torsion Bar (Hemi) the fatest I could get from M.P. KYB shocks. FatMan Fabrication Drop Spindles. Rear leafs (Hemi) with coil over shocks. Manual steering. SAFETY 5 LP supression fire system with 5 nozzles. 3 pound hand held. Full 6 point roll cage 4 mounted in the frame connectors with roof ladder bar and "spiders web" behind seats and extends into trunk with another cross bar and 2 points in reinforced plates. Removable door bars. Fuel Safe 25 gallon fuel cell with foam insert. Engine restraints. Fuel line routed through cab in a hard line pipe (just like NASCAR does it!!) Sparco seats with 5 point harnesses mounted to reinforced floor pans (plates). Aluminum seperator between cab and trunk (fuel cell). Inversion switch, this disconects power to the fuel pump in the event of a roll over, so no motor run on. External fuel cut off switch on taillight panel. Fuel pump cut off switch on dash and battery kill switch on roll bar at drivers reach. Quick release steering wheel with center pad. Scatter shield and SFI bellhousing. Driveshaft Loop. In short this car will pass tech for any ORR events Unlimited Class. BODY Body is in great condition and straight. Was originally from south Ca. south of Palm Springs so no salt air. Did have the typical front and rear wheel areas on both sides but they were minimal and have been repaired. No other past rust to mention. Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars
Sat, 18 Jan 2014The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson. See it yourself in our high-res image gallery above, and scroll down below for the official auction description.

US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books
Thu, 25 Sep 2014The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.
SRT belatedly claims Plymouth Prowler as one of its own
Wed, 19 Dec 2012Before Chrysler had Street and Racing Technology, it had Performance Vehicle Operations. What the two entities have in common, before SRT became its own brand, of course, is that each was created to take Chrysler and Dodge (and Plymouth, before it was unceremoniously killed off) vehicles to the next level of style and performance.
We'll leave the question of whether or not the old Plymouth (and later Chrysler) Prowler was ultimately a stylish, performance-oriented car to you, but the boys and girls currently leading the SRT charge at the Pentastar headquarters are keen to accept the retro-rod into the fold.
According to the automaker, all of SRT's current high-performance models owe a debt of gratitude to the old Prowler, due mostly to that car's use of lightweight bits and pieces and innovative construction techniques. If nothing else, the fact that the Prowler's frame is "the largest machined automotive part in history" is pretty cool. Read all the details here.
