UP FOR BIDS IS A 1973 BARRACUDA ORIGINALLY A 318 AC NOW SPORTS A 360 SUMMIT CRATE ENGINE WITH AC . CUDA WAS PURCHASED FROM A GUY WHO OWNED THE CAR FOR 30 YEARS HE WAS 14 WHEN HIS DAD PURCHASED THE CAR FOR HIM THEM WHEN HE TURNED 16 IT WAS GIVEN TO HIM AND TITLE TO HIM. I PURHASED THIS CAR WITH A 30 YEARS STORAGE COLLECTION WHICH I SOLD HERE ON EBAY WITH IN 2 WEEKS , THE CUDA WAS BUILT OVER THE YEARS THE WAY HE WANTED IT USING QUALITY PARTS AND USING THE NICE STUFF ON THIS CAR AND STORING THE OTHER STUFF. CAR STARTED AS A 318 AC SOLID CAR , HE PURCHASED A 360 SUMMIT CRATE ENGINE BUILT FOR 380 HP AND COST ABOUT 3800 BACK IN THE DAY . HE ADDED RALLY DASH 72-74 7K TACH. THERE WAS ALSO A STANGE AXLE DANA WHICH WAS REMOVED AS ITS GOING UNDER MY 71 THAT IS IN THE SHOP THE ORGINAL 83/4 IS BACK UNDER IT W 323 LIMITED SLIP. THIS CAR HAS SOLID FRAME RAILS FRONT TO REAR AND SOLID FLOOR PANS, ENGINE BAY IS SOLID . TRUNK HAD 2 SMALL PATCHES OTHERWISE VERY SOLID . IT HAD AN AAR SPOILER ON IT WHICH IS NOW GONE SO THERE ARE A FEW HOLES IN THE TRUNK LID. THE CAR IS STARTING TO BUBBLE IN SOME AREAS FROM SITTING UNDER A CARPORT SINCE 2011 . LAST TIME IT WAS DRIVEN I REPLACED ALL THE ELECTRICAL STUFF , NEW MINI STARTER, BATTERY, REMOVED THE HOLLEY CARB AND REPLACED IT WITH AN ELDEBROCK 650 CARB. I DROPPED THE TANK AND CLEANED OUT THE OLD GAS REINSTALLED IT , REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP, THIS CAR RUNS LIKE A RACE CAR IT HAS HEADERS WITH STEEL EXT WITH THE TIPS. THE QUARTER HAVE SOME TYPE OF INSERTS ???? DOORS ARE SOLID FENDERS HAVE SOME BUBBLING LOWER AREA THERE ARE SEVERAL WINDOW CLIPS MISSING . CAR IS 100% COMPLETE GRILL IS VERY NICE ALL THE LIGHTS WORK AND DASH LIGHTS. COMPLETE SET OF RALLY WHEELS . WHAT IS NEEDS THE AXLE U BOLTS COULD USE A NEW SET AS THEY ARE NOT COMPLETELY TIGHT , DRIVE SHAFT U JOINT. SRT belatedly claims Plymouth Prowler as one of its own
Wed, 19 Dec 2012Before Chrysler had Street and Racing Technology, it had Performance Vehicle Operations. What the two entities have in common, before SRT became its own brand, of course, is that each was created to take Chrysler and Dodge (and Plymouth, before it was unceremoniously killed off) vehicles to the next level of style and performance.
We'll leave the question of whether or not the old Plymouth (and later Chrysler) Prowler was ultimately a stylish, performance-oriented car to you, but the boys and girls currently leading the SRT charge at the Pentastar headquarters are keen to accept the retro-rod into the fold.
According to the automaker, all of SRT's current high-performance models owe a debt of gratitude to the old Prowler, due mostly to that car's use of lightweight bits and pieces and innovative construction techniques. If nothing else, the fact that the Prowler's frame is "the largest machined automotive part in history" is pretty cool. Read all the details here.
US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books
Thu, 25 Sep 2014The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.
Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars
Sat, 18 Jan 2014The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson.
