Los Angeles, California, United States
1973 PLYMOUTH BARRACUDA THAT SPENT ITS ENTIRE LIFE IN DRY SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. THE CAR WAS A TWO OWNER CAR AND SPENT THE LAST 20 YEARS LOCKED AWAY IN A GARAGE. THE BODY IS IN AMAZING SHAPE FOR A 40 YEAR OLD CAR. THE FLOORS AND TRUNK ARE VERY SOLID. THE DOOR BOTTOMS ARE PERFECT. THE QUARTERS ARE EXCELLENT WITH THE EXCEPTION OF A LITTLE RUST JUST STARTING ON DRIVER'S REAR. THE SEATS ARE BLACK LEATHER. BOTH THE FRONT AND REAR ARE IN GREAT SHAPE. THE HEADLINER AND CARPET IS EXCELLENT, TOO. THE DOOR PADS HAVE HAD SPEAKER HOLES PUT IN THEM. THE DASH HAS TWO CRACKS. THE PAINT IS FADED AND THE PREVIOUS OWNER SPRAYED SPOTS OF PRIMER ON THE CAR. I WISH HE DID NOT BUT IT IS NOT A BIG DEAL. THE CAR HAS NEVER HAD ANY BODY WORK AND IS VERY STRAIGHT. THE MOTOR RUNS VERY WELL AND THE CLUTCH FEELS GOOD . IT COMES WITH FACTORY AIR CONDITIONING AND TACK I HAVE SEEN MANY CUDAS THAT NEED FLOORS , QUARTERS, ETC, AND SELL FOR MUCH MORE THAN MY RESERVE. I FEEL THE PRICE IS FAIR CONSIDERING HOW SOLID THIS CAR IS. IT IS A PERFECT CAR TO DRIVE THE WAY IT IS OR FIX IT UP AND HAVE A 50K HOT ROD LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE. I CAN HELP OUT WITH SHIPPING TO ANY LOCATION. I HAVE GOOD CONTACTS FOR THIS PRICES ARE DECENT. SRT belatedly claims Plymouth Prowler as one of its own
Wed, 19 Dec 2012Before Chrysler had Street and Racing Technology, it had Performance Vehicle Operations. What the two entities have in common, before SRT became its own brand, of course, is that each was created to take Chrysler and Dodge (and Plymouth, before it was unceremoniously killed off) vehicles to the next level of style and performance.
We'll leave the question of whether or not the old Plymouth (and later Chrysler) Prowler was ultimately a stylish, performance-oriented car to you, but the boys and girls currently leading the SRT charge at the Pentastar headquarters are keen to accept the retro-rod into the fold.
According to the automaker, all of SRT's current high-performance models owe a debt of gratitude to the old Prowler, due mostly to that car's use of lightweight bits and pieces and innovative construction techniques. If nothing else, the fact that the Prowler's frame is "the largest machined automotive part in history" is pretty cool. Read all the details here.
Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars
Sat, 18 Jan 2014The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson. See it yourself in our high-res image gallery above, and scroll down below for the official auction description.

US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books
Thu, 25 Sep 2014The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.
