 1971 Plymouth Barracuda ‘Cuda

Here is a really nice example of a correct, all numbers matching, unusually optioned Plymouth ‘Cuda.  You may have seen this one featured in the May 2014 issue of Mopar Collector’s Guide magazine ... yet another one of those very rare factory-optioned packages that likely is the only one in existence.

This one was rumored to have been ordered new by a female and was delivered from a dealership in New York State.  Subsequent ownership history was/is patchy, but the original build sheet and fender tag stayed in tact and well preserved.  Engine and transmission stampings match the VIN and build sheet as they should.  It underwent a full rotisserie restoration approximately 5 years ago, is painted the correct GB5 bright blue metallic with black vinyl top.  The only options added that do NOT match the build sheet are the black bill boards and 15” rallye wheels.  It originally had 14” steel wheels, 3461401 full wheel covers, and F-78 white wall tires.  The fender tag reads:

451635 – build sequence number

N1B – 383 c.i.; 1971; Hamtramck plant

BS23 – Plymouth; special price class; 2-dr hardtop

D32 – A727 auto. Trans.

E65 – 383 / 4bbl; 300 h.p.

93280 – order code

709 – build date: 7/9/71

000 – full door panels

H4B5 – split bench seat; blue vinyl

GB5 – bright blue metallic body color

J45 – hood pins

J25 – 3-speed wiper motor

B51 – power disc brakes

A45 – spoiler package, front and rear

U – USA specification

V1X – black vinyl roof

M25 – body sill moldings

M21 – drip rail moldings

L34 – road lamps

J81 – rear spoiler

J78 – front spoiler

J54 – sport hood

R35 – AM/FM/MX 10-watt stereo radio

N42 – exhaust tips

N41 – dual exhaust system

M88 – deck molding treatment

M31 – body belt moldings

**Also included is a custom indoor car cover from California Car Covers, $400 value.

Given all of the above cool options she was ordered with, the build sheet shows the non-rally dash, column shift, left side only chrome rear view mirror, and 8-3/4 peg leg with 3:23 gears.  These features were retained during the restoration to keep the car correct.

I want you to be fully informed and all questions answered before you make a commitment, and your expectations exceeded if you win the auction.  The car can be made available for you to see in person and I can add more pictures if you need to see something in particular.  Feel free to email me @ b.bagley@bagleytractor.com or call Bill (903) 736-0495 to get your questions answered or make an appointment.  The successful bidder will be required to post a $500 deposit via PayPal within 24 hours after the auction ends, and payment in-full within ten days of auction close.  Transportation will be the winning bidder’s responsibility, but I will be glad to help with making arrangements and scheduling for pick-up.  Payment-In-Full must be verified and confirmed before the car will be released.

Good Luck!

SRT belatedly claims Plymouth Prowler as one of its own

Wed, 19 Dec 2012

Before Chrysler had Street and Racing Technology, it had Performance Vehicle Operations. What the two entities have in common, before SRT became its own brand, of course, is that each was created to take Chrysler and Dodge (and Plymouth, before it was unceremoniously killed off) vehicles to the next level of style and performance.
We'll leave the question of whether or not the old Plymouth (and later Chrysler) Prowler was ultimately a stylish, performance-oriented car to you, but the boys and girls currently leading the SRT charge at the Pentastar headquarters are keen to accept the retro-rod into the fold.
According to the automaker, all of SRT's current high-performance models owe a debt of gratitude to the old Prowler, due mostly to that car's use of lightweight bits and pieces and innovative construction techniques. If nothing else, the fact that the Prowler's frame is "the largest machined automotive part in history" is pretty cool. Read all the details here.

'71 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible sells for $3.5M [w/video]

Mon, 16 Jun 2014

We're plenty used to seeing classic cars selling for millions of dollars. It's just that they're usually European: Ferraris, Bugattis, Mercedes and the like. There are some rare American exceptions, usually wearing the names Duesenberg or Shelby. But what we have here is the most expensive Chrysler product ever sold at auction.
The vehicle in question is a Plymouth Barracuda - specifically a 1971 Hemi Cuda Convertible, chassis #BS27R1B315367 - that Mecum Auctions just sold after eight solid minutes of feverish bidding for a high bid of $3.5 million at its auction in Seattle, Washington. That figure positively eclipses the $2.2 million paid for a strikingly similar Hemi Cuda (chassis #BS27R1B269588) fetched nearly seven years ago in Scottsdale and another that was the first muscle car to break the million-dollar mark in 2002.

'Blood Muscle' auction to sell impressive collection of ill-begotten classic cars

Wed, 30 Jul 2014

The old saying goes that if you can't do the time, don't do the crime. But being a criminal can involve more than just taking a trip to the big house; it can also mean losing possessions purchased from any ill-gotten gains. Still, one man's loss is another's gain, and if you're in Lodi, NJ, on September 12, you stand the chance to buy some of the ultimate muscle cars from the US Marshals in what is being gruesomely nicknamed the Blood Muscle auction.
The grisly moniker was earned because all of the vehicles belonged to the president of a blood testing company who is facing prison time for alleged bribery, according to Hemmings. After all, they are muscle cars bought with actual blood money. The seven-vehicle collection includes some of the ultimate muscle cars ever made, and the original buyer clearly had an eye for rarity.
This cornucopia of V8 power includes a teal 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429, a 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang, an orange 1970 Plymouth Superbird, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS convertible and perhaps most prized of all - a trio of 1969 Yenko Chevys with a Chevelle, Nova and Camaro all represented. From the included photos, all of them look to be in fantastic condition.
