1971 - Low Mileage - So.california And Nevada Car - No Rust!! on 2040-cars

1971 Plymouth Barracuda Seller Owned Since 1988 This car has been stored and operated in California for the first eighteen years and in Nevada for the past twenty-five years. This car has NO RUST! Super clean undercarriage, wheel wells, sub frames, cross members, spring perches, torsion-bar mounts, etc... This IS the car for a HEMI-CUDA Clone! All original un-cut sheet metal except passenger fender and hood, most of the original fasteners are still there, even the undercoating is still intact. Three of the four headlights are the wide-fluted date coded originals! Car was optioned with Road Lamps, switch is there and I'm including the original brackets but no lamps or wiring. Odometer reads 65,711 miles, I can't verify they are original, but the car appears to have very low mileage. The car underwent a bare metal partial restore in 2002. The motor is a 340cu.in. 4bbl. roughly 10:1 compression with a solid lifter .509 Mopar Performance Purpleshaft. The A727 Automatic transmission was rebuilt recently with a TCI 2500 converter. Exhaust is TTi ceramic coated in/out step headers and 3" TTi pipes into Dynamax VT mufflers. Sounds Great! Front brakes were upgraded to Disc' with tubular A-arms in 2002. Third member is a 489 case Sure-Grip 3:91 gears. The window regulators (repair kit included) and door hinges could use some work. Other than that she's ready to go! SRT belatedly claims Plymouth Prowler as one of its own
Wed, 19 Dec 2012Before Chrysler had Street and Racing Technology, it had Performance Vehicle Operations. What the two entities have in common, before SRT became its own brand, of course, is that each was created to take Chrysler and Dodge (and Plymouth, before it was unceremoniously killed off) vehicles to the next level of style and performance.
We'll leave the question of whether or not the old Plymouth (and later Chrysler) Prowler was ultimately a stylish, performance-oriented car to you, but the boys and girls currently leading the SRT charge at the Pentastar headquarters are keen to accept the retro-rod into the fold.
According to the automaker, all of SRT's current high-performance models owe a debt of gratitude to the old Prowler, due mostly to that car's use of lightweight bits and pieces and innovative construction techniques. If nothing else, the fact that the Prowler's frame is "the largest machined automotive part in history" is pretty cool. Read all the details here.
US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books
Thu, 25 Sep 2014The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.
Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars
Sat, 18 Jan 2014The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson.
