I HAVE LOWERED THE RESERVE and SHORTENED THE LISTING DAYS...
Reason for selling... my wife was just diagonsed with Ovarian Cancer.... and we have an uphill battle and unknow cost. Time to switch my attention to this important matter. A good driver with what is believed to be only 65056 miles and original 318 and 904 automatic. Smokes a little at start up (seals or guides) but stops after warm up and drives excellent. Absolutely no drips, leaks, or stains on my drive or garage. It is a 10 year or older repaint in original Jamican Blue and a few bubbles appear behind the rear tires (see photos). An original Black vinal top car but no rust around windows, etc. Where the top was attached at factory, you can see the weld joints. Glass is all good. Tires are like new. Seats are reasonably fine... Dash split in two places and peeling.... needs replaced. Door Panels faded and peeling... needs replaced. Gas Gage stuck on 1/4 tank. Interior never cut up. Brakes are good. As I mentioned... I drive this car around town and get a lot of looks... it is a 10 footer... not a show car. I believe that it was undercoated when new and that is what saved the undercarriage... Front end is tight, manual disc brakes and drives straight as an arrow... with no vibration or wobble. I have set a low reserve. Remember this is a 1970 for sale, not a new car. US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books
Thu, 25 Sep 2014The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.
Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars
Sat, 18 Jan 2014The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson. SRT belatedly claims Plymouth Prowler as one of its own
Wed, 19 Dec 2012Before Chrysler had Street and Racing Technology, it had Performance Vehicle Operations. What the two entities have in common, before SRT became its own brand, of course, is that each was created to take Chrysler and Dodge (and Plymouth, before it was unceremoniously killed off) vehicles to the next level of style and performance.
We'll leave the question of whether or not the old Plymouth (and later Chrysler) Prowler was ultimately a stylish, performance-oriented car to you, but the boys and girls currently leading the SRT charge at the Pentastar headquarters are keen to accept the retro-rod into the fold.
According to the automaker, all of SRT's current high-performance models owe a debt of gratitude to the old Prowler, due mostly to that car's use of lightweight bits and pieces and innovative construction techniques. If nothing else, the fact that the Prowler's frame is "the largest machined automotive part in history" is pretty cool. Read all the details here.
