The AAR Cuda was a midyear introduction. AAR stood for Dan Gurney's Al American Racer's Team, and the AAR Cuda was designed to compete in the Trans-Am series against such cars as the Boss 302 Mustangs, Z-28 Camaro and AMC Javelins.
Standard equipment included a special version of the 340 ci engine with 3x2v induction. The AAR also sported a unique side exhaust system; flat-black paint treatment on hood cowl and fender tops; a front and rear ducktail-type spoiler, and a black 23 piece side tape treatment. The AAR Cuda and the T/A Challenger were the first production cars to come standard with different size front and rear tires, E60x15 inch and G60x15 inch respectively.
This AAR Cuda is 1 of 2774 total AAR's and 1 of 1120 4 speed manual transmission cars produced.

This particular AAR Cuda was subject to a 2,710 labor hour restoration and has a numbers matching transmission, fender tag and vin tag. The original motor was reportedly blown up back in the 70's. The current motor was acquired from a totaled AAR Cuda from the 70's and was purchased and rebuilt by Wheeler Racing Engines, Blaine, MN. The motor was rebuilt using only the best parts available and comes with a dyno sheet, from Wheeler, stating the following engine specs: 4900rpm with 404.5 ft. lb./torque producing 377rwd horsepower.
I have receipts and documentation for everything on this car. A build sheet was found in the car, unfortunately it was not for this car. However all body stamps and vin numbers do match. The only deviation from stock is the steering wheel which is now a rimblow steering wheel where originally the car was equipped with a standard wheel.

'71 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible sells for $3.5M [w/video]
Mon, 16 Jun 2014
We're plenty used to seeing classic cars selling for millions of dollars. It's just that they're usually European: Ferraris, Bugattis, Mercedes and the like. There are some rare American exceptions, usually wearing the names Duesenberg or Shelby. But what we have here is the most expensive Chrysler product ever sold at auction.
The vehicle in question is a Plymouth Barracuda - specifically a 1971 Hemi Cuda Convertible, chassis #BS27R1B315367 - that Mecum Auctions just sold after eight solid minutes of feverish bidding for a high bid of $3.5 million at its auction in Seattle, Washington. That figure positively eclipses the $2.2 million paid for a strikingly similar Hemi Cuda (chassis #BS27R1B269588) fetched nearly seven years ago in Scottsdale and another that was the first muscle car to break the million-dollar mark in 2002.
'Blood Muscle' auction to sell impressive collection of ill-begotten classic cars
Wed, 30 Jul 2014The old saying goes that if you can't do the time, don't do the crime. But being a criminal can involve more than just taking a trip to the big house; it can also mean losing possessions purchased from any ill-gotten gains. Still, one man's loss is another's gain, and if you're in Lodi, NJ, on September 12, you stand the chance to buy some of the ultimate muscle cars from the US Marshals in what is being gruesomely nicknamed the Blood Muscle auction.
The grisly moniker was earned because all of the vehicles belonged to the president of a blood testing company who is facing prison time for alleged bribery, according to Hemmings. After all, they are muscle cars bought with actual blood money. The seven-vehicle collection includes some of the ultimate muscle cars ever made, and the original buyer clearly had an eye for rarity.
This cornucopia of V8 power includes a teal 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429, a 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang, an orange 1970 Plymouth Superbird, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS convertible and perhaps most prized of all - a trio of 1969 Yenko Chevys with a Chevelle, Nova and Camaro all represented. From the included photos, all of them look to be in fantastic condition.
Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars
Sat, 18 Jan 2014The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson. See it yourself in our high-res image gallery above, and scroll down below for the official auction description.
