Nyack, New York, United States

1969 PLYMOUTH BARRACUDA FASTBACK  rebuilt 318 w/ Edelbrock 4BBL and front disc brakes

STARTS / RUNS / STEERS & STOPS GREAT - LOOKS GOOD - NEEDS NEW PAINT & SOME BODYWORK, ETC.
RECENTLY PASSED NY STATE INSPECTION & HAS CURRENT NEW YORK STATE REGISTRATION

I’ve been working on this Barracuda for awhile, getting it to the point where it is now – almost mechanically complete but still needing bodywork & paint – however, we are moving out of New York state soon and I must sell asap... low reserve!

Previous owner told me the car sat parked in southern Oklahoma for years, and the low mileage to be correct... I have absolutely no idea if that’s true or BS.  This much I do know:

dry Southwest car, has original factory undercoating
Y2 Sunfire Yellow
original drive train
speedometer reads 81,993 miles
3 speed automatic / Torqueflite / column shift
front DISC brakes, ‘73 single caliper conversion
I had the original 318 block rebuilt with a .30 overbore
Edelbrock Performer Plus cam (204/204 dur, 420/420 lift)
Edelbrock 600 CFM Perfomer 4 BBL carb w/ electric choke
Edelbrock Performer 318 / 360 intake Manifold
340-type Hi-Po cast iron manifolds, L # 2863553, R # 2863549
340-type dual exhaust from Accurate Mopar Exhaust w/ turbo mufflers
340-type squared off stainless steel exhaust tips
original 1968 318 heads
original radiator has been serviced and re-cored
replaced water pump
replaced alternator
replaced thermostat
engine bay was painted PPG Y2 Sunfire Yellow while the engine was being rebuilt
bumpers are nice, all chrome and trim is in decent shape except the rear taillights are pitted, I have some I will include in the sale and place in the trunk
I also have the rear back-up lights, will include with the aforementioned rear tailights
floor pans, frame rails and torsion bar mounts are all good
front grill is good, no breaks in the "egg crate"
glass is good, no chips / cracks, etc
recent front end suspension, control arms, bushings, everything up front is new
“Firm Feel” power steering box
new master cylinder (non-power)
replaced shocks all around
replaced front disc brakes
replaced rear brakes drums
new starter (regular, not Mini-starter)
replaced fuel tank, 18 gallon from Year One
replaced the heater core (was leaking)
new fuel 5/16 sending unit, new fuel line grommets, etc
Cooper Cobra 215/15/60 tires in the front, and 235/60/15 in the rear
Cragar 08/61 Super Sport wheels all around, reverse offset 15" x 7" in the rear
car has 5 x 4 1/2 bolt pattern all around... not the small 5 x 4 A-body bolt pattern
at some point the rear end was swapped out (not by me) for an early 70’s 10 bolt
new Yukon 3.21 ring & pinion, new rear end bearings
original Mopar “Air-Temp” factory air, worked before engine rebuild... but I have not dealt with recharging it, etc. since
original yellow interior and door panels, front seat bucket inserts have been redone at some point, decent match (see photos)
original steering wheel has one crack
dash pad is very nice, no cracks in black dash top
original roller style Plymouth AM radio, works, no cuts in dash bezel... however, the radio antennae is currently snapped off
car definitely needs a repaint, has dings, dents, scratches, etc (see photos)
car looks to have been clunked in the left rear at some point long ago, has bondo around the left rear taillight and in the left rear quarter panel (see photo)
there is bubbling in both the rear quarter panels (see photos)
the trunk is not original to this car, shows a bit of the original B5 blue peeking through
The fender tag is missing
The carpeting in the rear is very faded under the rear window
like many A-bodies, there is a leak in the cowl, this one on the drivers side

'71 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible sells for $3.5M [w/video]

Mon, 16 Jun 2014

We're plenty used to seeing classic cars selling for millions of dollars. It's just that they're usually European: Ferraris, Bugattis, Mercedes and the like. There are some rare American exceptions, usually wearing the names Duesenberg or Shelby. But what we have here is the most expensive Chrysler product ever sold at auction.
The vehicle in question is a Plymouth Barracuda - specifically a 1971 Hemi Cuda Convertible, chassis #BS27R1B315367 - that Mecum Auctions just sold after eight solid minutes of feverish bidding for a high bid of $3.5 million at its auction in Seattle, Washington. That figure positively eclipses the $2.2 million paid for a strikingly similar Hemi Cuda (chassis #BS27R1B269588) fetched nearly seven years ago in Scottsdale and another that was the first muscle car to break the million-dollar mark in 2002.

US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books

Thu, 25 Sep 2014

The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.

Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars

Sat, 18 Jan 2014

The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson. See it yourself in our high-res image gallery above, and scroll down below for the official auction description.
