1964 Oldsmobile Starfire-body Off Complete Restoration on 2040-cars

Year:1964 Mileage:3352
Location:

Saint Paul, Minnesota, United States

Saint Paul, Minnesota, United States

Up for auction is my 1964 Olds Starfire that I have owned for the past 28 years. It was a totally rust free, highly optioned car from

Texas with 88,000 miles on it before a complete body-off rotisserie restoration was completed 5 years ago. The car has been

driven 3,352 miles since the restoration was completed. The pictures of the car speak for themselves. This Starfire has won many

trophies at both indoor and outdoor car shows including a People's Choice award. It was featured in the Old Cars Weekly magazine

and can be seen as a background car in the Cohen Brother's movie "A Serious Man." No expense was spared during the restoration.

Every part on the car was either rebuilt, replaced, rechromed or polished. The original numbers matching motor was completely

rebuilt. It was bored .040 and is now 406 cubic inches. A new special grind Starfire cam was installed. The transmission was

updated to a 700R4 four speed automatic and is connected to the original T-Stick shifter handle. The entire front and rear

suspension including the axel tube was powder coated as well as the inner fenders, engine brackets, core support, and just about

everything else that was black on the car. All new a/c components were installed including compressor, evaporator, condensor,

dryer and lines. The a/c was converted to R134 and blows icy cold. A SMS Auto Fabrics new interior including seat covers, door

panels, headliner and carpet was installed. This Olds has the factory original Super Deluxe Wheel covers that include a special 8

lug steel wheel that the aluminum caps are attached to. Other rare options are the simulated woodgrain steering wheel and the

Reverbatone Speaker System. Notice the trim on the highbeam headlights. These are the factory stars that came on a small

percentage of the '64 Starfires sold. The has the Protect-O-Plate factory warranty attached to the original owner's manual. The

original color was Saddle Mist with saddle interior. I restored the car only to change the color and make it like my Dad's '64

Starfire that he had when  I was a kid. The color now is the correct 1964 Olds Starfire color called Sheffield Mist. This is the

most completely restored '64 Starfire that I have ever seen.  It is a fun car to drive and it gets a lot of attention. The winning

bidder gets the original complete 5 Service Manual set and some literature and cool advertisements for the car from 1964.

The car is sold as is and payment must be received within 7 days of the end of the auction. Delivery is the buyer's responsibility

but I will do anything I can to facilitate. Please email any questions. Thanks for looking and good luck on your bidding.  See

eBay Find of the Day: 1976 GMC Motorhome is a jolly green giant

Wed, 18 Jun 2014

If you have a need to relive the 1970s, then here is the vehicle for you. This groovy blast from the past is a 1976 GMC Motorhome currently for auction in Florida on eBay Motors, and it is one green machine - just not in the modern sense.
The seller claims that this beast has had just two owners and has covered a mere 61,308 miles in its decades on the road. It's reportedly never been restored or repainted and comes with all of the necessary books and manuals. A 7.5-liter (455-cubic-inch) Oldsmobile V8 with a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission powering the front wheels propels this far-out RV, and the double set of rear wheels out back use a self-leveling air suspension to provide a cushy ride.
The purported low miles and good condition really make this GMC a stand out, though. The exterior combination of lime stripes and beige with just a touch of green is like nothing else on the road today. Plus, the polished bumpers and wheels make it all pop. Inside, it's even better with monochromatic green upholstery and shag carpet. It features everything you'd ever need on a long trip, including a bathroom, kitchenette and lots of seating. The only hint of modernization is an HD TV next to the stove, but its size is a perfect fit for the hole there.

Jay Leno bangs up his own Toronado in GT6

Wed, 11 Dec 2013

Ever since Gran Turismo 4, Jay Leno has had at least one of his cars included in the popular racing simulator (starting with the Tank Car), and more of his machines appears in Gran Turismo 6. They include this nose-heavy, front-wheel-drive V8-powered muscle car. Yes, that aptly describes a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado - except Leno's is rear-wheel drive. And it has a Cadillac CTS-V race engine modified to pump out 1,070 horsepower.
For the latest Jay Leno's Garage episode, he takes his real Toronado out for a cruise and then drives the virtual one like he stole it, accruing some body damage along the way. Leno also drives the virtual supercar Mercedes-Benz designed for GT6, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Concept that debuted at the LA Auto Show, along with the real one, which is a 1:1-scale model. The model is radio-controlled and equipped with a small electric motor, sufficient to move it on and off of auto show floors.
Head below to watch the episode, which includes a few words from GT6 creator Kazunori Yamauchi.

GM recalling 8.4M cars, 8.2M related to ignition problems

Mon, 30 Jun 2014

General Motors today announced a truly massive recall covering some 8.4 million vehicles in North America. Most significantly, 8.2 million examples of the affected vehicles are being called back due to "unintended ignition key rotation," though GM spokesperson Alan Adler tells Autoblog that this issue is not like the infamous Chevy Cobalt ignition switch fiasco.
For the sake of perspective, translated to US population, this total recall figure would equal a car for each resident of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, the District of Columbia, Vermont and Wyoming. Combined. Here's how it all breaks down:
7,610,862 vehicles in North America being recalled for unintended ignition key rotation. 6,805,679 are in the United States.
