This auction is for a beautiful newly restored Olds 88 custom cruiser, with a 324 rocket V8 engine that has gone through a complete restoration. This car has had nothing but the best put into it. It has a turn key build. You can jump in and drive across the country with no fears. The tranny is the rare 4-speed jetaway hydromatic that shifts out flawlessly. The engine is equipped with a Edelbrock  4bbl.carb with the Olds/Caddy air cleaner.

Includes:

New distributer with new wires and plugs

Rebuilt wiper motor

Custom 50's rocket valve covers

Complete new brake system with rebuilt treddle-vac (stops smooth and straight)

Power steering

And

Shaved door handles with key remote popper and a exterior safety switch built into the driver's spotlight.

This cruiser has had one repaint back to its original color of island coral and shantung beige. It’s just as beautiful as you can see in the photos. The interior has new vinyl seating with hand stitched headliner using the seating material. There is new carpeting, original door panels, new 15x6 rocket wheels with American classic wide whites, fender skirts, and Smithy's muffler with new exhaust. All stainless and chrome is in excellent condition (inside and out). It has a new fuel sending unit with aftermarket gauge, all other gauges (oil, temp, speedo, amp) are original and work perfect. Mounted tachometer, original auto dimmer, dummy spots, lighted hood ornament, custom auto radio in stock location (no dash cutting), and the modern oil spin-on adapter is installed.

Custom painted traditional fine line pin striping (not too much, just enough). This car is straight and solid with no issues (no rot or patches) no lose wires under the dash.

You will not be disappointed with this beautiful cruiser. I drive this car on long cruises, (weather permitting). It can travel the interstate at 70 mph all day. I have sunk several $$$'s in this build and it shows! This is one beautiful car for one special person.

Be sure and take time to look at all the photos.

I have this car in consignment from a gentleman that I sold a car to in Alabama. He sent me this car to sell for him and I am honoring his wishes. In Alabama, cars from 1975 on down do not have titles, only registrations for the license plates with the official paperwork. With the registration and the paperwork, you can get an actual title in any of the other 49 states. This is Alabama’s state law. I will supply all paperwork required for your new title. I am selling this car as-is, with no warranty, which means that the buyer is responsible for the vehicle that they are purchasing.

This is a 7-day auction, which gives any potential lookers or bidders an opportunity to come out, see the vehicle and drive it or send from the local area a qualified mechanic to come and inspect this car. Once the auction is over, the winner has 48 hours to pay for the car by cash or wire transfer. If the car is not paid for in that amount of time, I will offer it to the runner-up bidder. I will not pay for any shipping but I would be glad to assist your shipper for the pickup of this vehicle.

I would like the vehicle picked up within a 7 day period because I have no room to keep the car and I don’t want to be responsible for somebody else’s vehicle. I’m sure that you would want to have the vehicle as soon as possible to drive and enjoy it, because it is a beautiful car. If car is not picked up in 7 days there is a 15.00 charge every day after till car is gone. I also would like to add that the miles on the car are believed to be original. If any potential buyers would come and see and drive this car, it drives nicer than you think it would based on this ad, and the body and interior must seen in person to be appreciated. The floors and frame underneath this car are as solid as the days are long.

This is a rare, hard-to-find car in this beautiful condition. I hope you will appreciate it as much as the gentleman who presently owns the car does. If you have any questions about the car or about making the transaction or about how the title will transfer in your state, please call Lou Davis at 216-210-8488. I would be happy to give you any additional information that you would need. If you can, please call rather than e-mail or eBay Message. This way, you can get an answer quickly, whereas my email may not be checked every day.

Thank you for looking, and good luck bidding!

Jay Leno bangs up his own Toronado in GT6

Wed, 11 Dec 2013

Ever since Gran Turismo 4, Jay Leno has had at least one of his cars included in the popular racing simulator (starting with the Tank Car), and more of his machines appears in Gran Turismo 6. They include this nose-heavy, front-wheel-drive V8-powered muscle car. Yes, that aptly describes a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado - except Leno's is rear-wheel drive. And it has a Cadillac CTS-V race engine modified to pump out 1,070 horsepower.
For the latest Jay Leno's Garage episode, he takes his real Toronado out for a cruise and then drives the virtual one like he stole it, accruing some body damage along the way. Leno also drives the virtual supercar Mercedes-Benz designed for GT6, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Concept that debuted at the LA Auto Show, along with the real one, which is a 1:1-scale model. The model is radio-controlled and equipped with a small electric motor, sufficient to move it on and off of auto show floors.
Head below to watch the episode, which includes a few words from GT6 creator Kazunori Yamauchi.

Ferrari FF pitted against Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser in crazy Generation Gap comparison

Thu, 13 Nov 2014

The folks behind Generation Gap have lost their minds with this latest video. The goal here is to determine the ultimate family cruiser, but the choices are what you would least expect, with a heavily modded 1970 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser going up against a 2012 Ferrari FF.
You might anticipate an over-40-year-old Oldsmobile to pale in comparison to any modern Ferrari, but this wagon has a ton of secrets under its skin thanks to Lingenfelter. First, it packs a supercharged LS3 V8 with a claimed 650 horsepower and a six-speed manual gearbox. That big upgrade in power is further helped with air suspension and massive Wilwood disc brakes. The result is nothing short of deafening, with blaring yelps whenever the driver even nudges the accelerator.
The alternative sounds just as good, albeit in very different way. The Ferrari's 6.3-liter V12 pumps out 651 hp and 504 pound-feet with a part-time all-wheel drive system. While the FF lacks a lot of the hauling ability of the Olds, it makes up for the deficit in handling, luxury, and in many eyes, simply by having the famous prancing horse on the grille.

This Or That: 1980 Oldsmobile 442 vs. 1989 BMW 635CSi [w/poll]

Thu, 09 Oct 2014

The last time I roped a coworker into an automotive debate, I lost. Resoundingly, I might add. Still, 2,385 voters chose to cast their lots for the Fiat 500 Abarth, as opposed to 5,273 choosing the Ford Fiesta ST, and so I can rest easy in the knowledge that at least 30 percent of you, dear readers, see things my way. I still like to think we have more fun, too.
My loss in the first round of our This or That series, in which two Autoblog editors pick sides on any given topic and then attempt to explain why the other is completely wrong, didn't stop me from picking another good-natured fight, this time with Senior Editor Seyth Miersma. Last time, our chosen sides were eerily similar in design, albeit quite different in actual execution. This time, our vehicular peculiarities couldn't seemingly fall any further from one another: A 1980 Oldsmobile 442 wouldn't seem to match up in comparison to a 1989 BMW 635CSi.
How did we come up with such disparate contenders? Simple, really. Seyth and I mutually agreed to choose a car that's currently for sale online. It had to be built and sold in the 1980s, and it had to be a coupe. The price cap was set at $10,000. The fruits of our searching labors will henceforth be disputed, with Seyth on the side of the Germans, and myself arguing in favor of the Rocket Olds. Am I setting myself up for another lopsided loss?
