Up for auction is a very nice mostly original 1955 Oldsmobile 88 4 door sedan.Kind of a long winded description but wanted to put a description of the many hours and $ that were put in to the car on the mechanics. This area is high desert and salt has not been used on the roads. It was the very basic model for the 88 except the owner upgraded to the almost bullet proof optional 4 speed Hydra-Matic transmission and a Rochester 4 jet 4 barrel carb. I ran the #'s to make sure that the carb came with the car and everything matched up. Most base models came with a 2 barrel. These 324 Oldsmobile Rocket motors with the Hydra-Matic and the 4 jet carb were hard to beat performance wise in the day.Back then as now, it was a sought after for a Hotrod. The car has always been here in this area and I knew the family that had it when I went to high school in the 60's.The car was bought by a local man in 1991 and in the Late 90's started restoring it and died not long after painting it and sat in a shed until a few months back.It has had the 1 repaint back to the correct colors which are # 43 Frost Blue ( Robin Egg Blue ) on the bottom and # 41 Panama Blue ( dark matalic blue ) on the top and wheels. The paint still has very good shine and is in good shape with the exception of a few very small chips and a couple of very small bubbles ( pictured ) that I believe was caused by something under the paint. The interior of the car is very nice except a small tear on the top of the seat panel behind the drivers side and the old rubber floor mats are showing their age.The headliner is nice as are the door panels. The window and door handles are nice except for 1 missing knob on the drivers vent handle. The windows all roll up and down nice and the doors all close like butter with just an easy click. No slamming these doors. The hood and trunk open and close the same way as the doors. All the body and door lines are excellent. The glass is all original and in perfect condition except 1 small chip in the windsheild that could be made to disappear. It has all 4 original hubcaps in very good condition .All in all very very nice cosmetically.  I looked at the floors in the front ,back and trunk and all are nice except some rust through under the drivers feet that had been amature repaired with a piece of metal. The car had a number of vacuum leaks including the intake manifold so had to pull the intake off and beings we were that far along, opened up the motor pulled the rockers , pushrods , lifters , and  cleaned the motor completely and made sure all oil passages were open and pumping oil. We dismantled the rocker arm assemblies inspected and cleaned them making sure that oil would pass , cleaned the pushrods , dismantled and refurbished the hydrolic lifters.   Here is a lift of everything that was done to restore the mechanics.

Pulled and restored the distributor and installed new wires, points, condenser, cap and rotor and bench set  it's like a new one       new ignition wires   new coil  new intake, valley,& valve cover gaskets     new belt and hoses    rebuilt dual action fuel pump   refurbished vacuum wiper motor and they work great with the dual action pump backup     new transmission mounts    pulled the driveline and inspected all components   replaced sway bar bushings both sides    drained transmission and inspected  cleaned and put in new gaskets & seals and adjusted    radiator pulled cleaned and tested   checked and tightened underneath of car front to back     Pretty much went over all the mechanics and made a nice driver that I wouldn't be afraid to drive anywhere    The power brake system had been redone when them man was restoring it but we inspected drained & bled the system. The brakes work very good   It also had a new water pump on it    All the wiring is in very good shape, still supple from spending it's life under cover and all the lights work as should including backup lights, under hood and trunk lights.     All in all a very decent old original car   The tires have plenty of tread and not checked at all but are the tires that were on it      Please contact us within 24 hrs of auctions end to let us know how you will be completing transaction .    We want a $1000 deposit by PayPal and the remainder to be paid by cash or bank to bank wire transfer         Feel free to contact me at    208 353 1972   Don

On Oct-10-13 at 09:24:40 PDT, seller added the following information:

Forgot to add that the car would be kept inside under cover and stored for a reasonable amount of time     The shipping will be up to the buyer but  I will assist any way that I can     Nice time of year for a trip , so if you decide to fly in and drive it home , I'll be glad to pick you up at the airport   I also forgot to add that the heater control valve was replaced with a manual valve and has to be turned on and off by hand.Heater works good. The glove compartment liner was damaged and not put back in.     PLEASE IF YOU ARE 0 FEEDBACK BIDDER CONTACT ME BEFORE BIDDING OR YOUR BID WILL BE TAKEN OFF BECAUSE OF THE SCAMS OUT HERE IN THE WORLD    Also all the stainless is in show condition

On Oct-12-13 at 12:52:14 PDT, seller added the following information:

Also wanted to add that this car is for sale locally too , and I reserve the right to end the auction early.  Should someone reach the reserve and contacts me  I iwon't take it off the auction    I had someone email and ask me if it would make the 500 mile drive to their home        I have spent a very large amount of time on the mechanics of this car and feel very confident of it.If you read my description it gives a list of all that I have done to restore the mechanics         That being said it is a 1955 Olds almost 60 years old and I would want to have a basic tool kit and basic mechanical skills to take a long trip.      I would not hesitate driving it anywhere.  Like I also said, the tires have good tread and I see no sign of any cracking or damage but they are the tires that have been on the car. The driving that I do is in a 100 miles round trip and it drives nice on the highway and I don't worry.

eBay Find of the Day: 1976 GMC Motorhome is a jolly green giant

Wed, 18 Jun 2014

If you have a need to relive the 1970s, then here is the vehicle for you. This groovy blast from the past is a 1976 GMC Motorhome currently for auction in Florida on eBay Motors, and it is one green machine - just not in the modern sense.
The seller claims that this beast has had just two owners and has covered a mere 61,308 miles in its decades on the road. It's reportedly never been restored or repainted and comes with all of the necessary books and manuals. A 7.5-liter (455-cubic-inch) Oldsmobile V8 with a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission powering the front wheels propels this far-out RV, and the double set of rear wheels out back use a self-leveling air suspension to provide a cushy ride.
The purported low miles and good condition really make this GMC a stand out, though. The exterior combination of lime stripes and beige with just a touch of green is like nothing else on the road today. Plus, the polished bumpers and wheels make it all pop. Inside, it's even better with monochromatic green upholstery and shag carpet. It features everything you'd ever need on a long trip, including a bathroom, kitchenette and lots of seating. The only hint of modernization is an HD TV next to the stove, but its size is a perfect fit for the hole there.

Jay Leno bangs up his own Toronado in GT6

Wed, 11 Dec 2013

Ever since Gran Turismo 4, Jay Leno has had at least one of his cars included in the popular racing simulator (starting with the Tank Car), and more of his machines appears in Gran Turismo 6. They include this nose-heavy, front-wheel-drive V8-powered muscle car. Yes, that aptly describes a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado - except Leno's is rear-wheel drive. And it has a Cadillac CTS-V race engine modified to pump out 1,070 horsepower.
For the latest Jay Leno's Garage episode, he takes his real Toronado out for a cruise and then drives the virtual one like he stole it, accruing some body damage along the way. Leno also drives the virtual supercar Mercedes-Benz designed for GT6, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Concept that debuted at the LA Auto Show, along with the real one, which is a 1:1-scale model. The model is radio-controlled and equipped with a small electric motor, sufficient to move it on and off of auto show floors.
Head below to watch the episode, which includes a few words from GT6 creator Kazunori Yamauchi.

Ferrari FF pitted against Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser in crazy Generation Gap comparison

Thu, 13 Nov 2014

The folks behind Generation Gap have lost their minds with this latest video. The goal here is to determine the ultimate family cruiser, but the choices are what you would least expect, with a heavily modded 1970 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser going up against a 2012 Ferrari FF.
You might anticipate an over-40-year-old Oldsmobile to pale in comparison to any modern Ferrari, but this wagon has a ton of secrets under its skin thanks to Lingenfelter. First, it packs a supercharged LS3 V8 with a claimed 650 horsepower and a six-speed manual gearbox. That big upgrade in power is further helped with air suspension and massive Wilwood disc brakes. The result is nothing short of deafening, with blaring yelps whenever the driver even nudges the accelerator.
The alternative sounds just as good, albeit in very different way. The Ferrari's 6.3-liter V12 pumps out 651 hp and 504 pound-feet with a part-time all-wheel drive system. While the FF lacks a lot of the hauling ability of the Olds, it makes up for the deficit in handling, luxury, and in many eyes, simply by having the famous prancing horse on the grille.
