72 Rare, W/build Sheet, 3 On The Tree, Optioned Like A W 31 But In Supreme Body on 2040-cars

This is one of the rarest Oldsmobile muscle cars I
have come across, at first glance you might think it’s just a cutlass supreme
that someone fixed up but If you break it down by the numbers it’s actually a
very rare poverty cutlass (ordered in the supreme body style). Not sure what
the owner was thinking but it’s all on the build sheet which is included with
the car. As you will see it’s a super unique combination of poverty,
performance and luxury options. Original 350 4bbl, standard shift tranny and 3:23
gears along with bucket seats??? The owner wanted performance?? Ordered in the supreme body style, with A/C, clock, vanity
mirrors, power brakes and steering they clearly
wanted a little comfort?? Then again they had to be on a budget to add in the poverty
aspects of the downgraded cutlass trim package, deleting the vinyl top,
downgrading to the base rims with dog dish hub caps, and especially eliminating
the TH350 or Muncie in favor of a super rare poverty three on the tree standard
shift transmission. Helen Earley of the Olds historical society estimated
that this car is one of only 29 configured with 3 on the tree so even before
you consider the other unique options this car is super rare, now to survive in
this condition with a build sheet to prove it was ordered pretty much as it
sits it becomes an awful cool turn key cutlass you can buy for about half of
what it would cost to restore. This one doesn’t need anything for you to enjoy, in
fact it’s a recent New England Olds club appreciation award winner from September of 2013, The car has an older
paint job with a few flaws but as you can see from the pictures the car is in
great shape inside and out. As always its sold as is where is but as you can see
from my feedback I am very strait in my descriptions and am always happy to
discuss with potential buyers. The previous owner is also a fellow national and
local Oldsmobile club member and Oldsmobile show judge so both he and I can
answer pretty much any question about the car and have used our experience to
keep the car very original and unmodified. I think the Pictures represent the car well so look
carefully and if you have any questions please let me know. I want any bidders
or buyers to feel very confident in the description and condition of the car. The car is not in number one condition and certainly
not a brand new frame off restoration however its pretty awesome (ie engine
compartment is very detailed but shows some signs of use, Interior is very nice
(headliner, seat covers, package tray, carpet, and door panels are too nice to
be original so I would say the whole interior has been restored) body is solid
and has nice paint ( also too nice to be original) Underside is very clean for
a car that has been driven, seems like it was undecoated from the factory and
really well taken care of ever since as you can see from the pictures. It looks
better than many cars I have seen that were frame off restored so its possible
it has been in the past but as far as I can tell its original just with none of
those typical new England rust issues just an amazing survivor in turn key
driver condition. The previous owner took good care of it and had it for
many years so there is good history available and he would welcome a discussion

options but here are a few highlights: 3504bbl (QD) 3 speed standard (column shift) (R3) 323 gear ratio (SR) Strato bucket seats Clock Power Disk Brakes Hood lock dual chrome mirrors and much much more Other notes:
The engine and
compartment are meticulously detailed to stock appearance with date coded wires,
correct color engine, and more original clips, springs, clamps and hardware
than I can list.
The transmission
shifts well, clutch is great, and even the reverse lock out is working
correctly. The car has been shown and is in very respectable condition, even
the trunk is detailed with spare, jack, tire hold down, tire Iron clips, and
correct trunk matt.
The paint is the original code 63 (copper)
and the paint looks fairly fresh and bright but is not perfect with a few chips
and scratches. Both the chrome and
stainless trim on this car are in very nice condition with minimal signs of
wear. According to the build sheet the
hood and side could have small black stripes which I can add if buyer likes but
I thought I would leave it to the new owner.
The Bronze interior
is clean and in exceptional condition, every little light, gage and switch seems
to be working perfectly, the Dash looks awesome and all the vents, and
components not only look great but work as they should. All the seats are soft
and in good repair even the chrome beading on the backs and bases is bright and
in good repair. The carpet, the door panels and dash are all in good condition
making the interior a major plus over most cars this age.
So in summary this car is not a 442
or w-30 worth huge money but it is a very correctly configured and certainly
well maintained rare olds so purists should find the car extremely interesting
and it can be entered in the stock class at shows or simply driven for fun. NOTE:
if you’re looking for a flawless trailer queen that is ready to go to auction
you’ll have to do some work this is a driver.
Pick up and shipping are the
responsibility of the winning bidder but I will work with the winner to
coordinate and if agreed upon before end of auction can help with local
transport as the car can be driven. Also the car is sold with state of CT
transfer of ownership (registration) and if requested by the buyer a Q1 CT
state bill of sale. Please ask any questions or discuss special arrangements
with me before the end of auction to avoid problems. No financially challenged

Jay Leno bangs up his own Toronado in GT6
Wed, 11 Dec 2013Ever since Gran Turismo 4, Jay Leno has had at least one of his cars included in the popular racing simulator (starting with the Tank Car), and more of his machines appears in Gran Turismo 6. They include this nose-heavy, front-wheel-drive V8-powered muscle car. Yes, that aptly describes a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado - except Leno's is rear-wheel drive. And it has a Cadillac CTS-V race engine modified to pump out 1,070 horsepower.
For the latest Jay Leno's Garage episode, he takes his real Toronado out for a cruise and then drives the virtual one like he stole it, accruing some body damage along the way. Leno also drives the virtual supercar Mercedes-Benz designed for GT6, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Concept that debuted at the LA Auto Show, along with the real one, which is a 1:1-scale model. The model is radio-controlled and equipped with a small electric motor, sufficient to move it on and off of auto show floors.

eBay Find of the Day: 1976 GMC Motorhome is a jolly green giant
Wed, 18 Jun 2014If you have a need to relive the 1970s, then here is the vehicle for you. This groovy blast from the past is a 1976 GMC Motorhome currently for auction in Florida on eBay Motors, and it is one green machine - just not in the modern sense.
The seller claims that this beast has had just two owners and has covered a mere 61,308 miles in its decades on the road. It's reportedly never been restored or repainted and comes with all of the necessary books and manuals. A 7.5-liter (455-cubic-inch) Oldsmobile V8 with a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission powering the front wheels propels this far-out RV, and the double set of rear wheels out back use a self-leveling air suspension to provide a cushy ride.
The purported low miles and good condition really make this GMC a stand out, though. The exterior combination of lime stripes and beige with just a touch of green is like nothing else on the road today. Plus, the polished bumpers and wheels make it all pop. Inside, it's even better with monochromatic green upholstery and shag carpet. It features everything you'd ever need on a long trip, including a bathroom, kitchenette and lots of seating. The only hint of modernization is an HD TV next to the stove, but its size is a perfect fit for the hole there.
This Or That: 1980 Oldsmobile 442 vs. 1989 BMW 635CSi [w/poll]
Thu, 09 Oct 2014The last time I roped a coworker into an automotive debate, I lost. Resoundingly, I might add. Still, 2,385 voters chose to cast their lots for the Fiat 500 Abarth, as opposed to 5,273 choosing the Ford Fiesta ST, and so I can rest easy in the knowledge that at least 30 percent of you, dear readers, see things my way. I still like to think we have more fun, too.
My loss in the first round of our This or That series, in which two Autoblog editors pick sides on any given topic and then attempt to explain why the other is completely wrong, didn't stop me from picking another good-natured fight, this time with Senior Editor Seyth Miersma. Last time, our chosen sides were eerily similar in design, albeit quite different in actual execution. This time, our vehicular peculiarities couldn't seemingly fall any further from one another: A 1980 Oldsmobile 442 wouldn't seem to match up in comparison to a 1989 BMW 635CSi.
How did we come up with such disparate contenders? Simple, really. Seyth and I mutually agreed to choose a car that's currently for sale online. It had to be built and sold in the 1980s, and it had to be a coupe. The price cap was set at $10,000. The fruits of our searching labors will henceforth be disputed, with Seyth on the side of the Germans, and myself arguing in favor of the Rocket Olds. Am I setting myself up for another lopsided loss?
