~This is a really good looking 1971 Cutlass 442 clone. 350 Rocket engine, automatic, Factory AC,  bucket seats, power steering, brakes, and power top. Its been a life long California car so its never seen a day of snow or a salty road in its life. Just look at the pics of the floorboards! Clean, clean, clean!

~The body and paint: The body is very straight. All panels align well. All original body panels. No rust anywhere! The floor boards, frame and trunk are completely rust free and as nice as you will find anywhere. As you would expect from a Cali car,  No rust, no corrosion, no patching, just nice factory original. The paint is about 10 years old and shows well. Its not a fresh out of the booth $10K job but it does show well. A few minor small chips here and there but thats it. No damage whatsoever. All of the correct 442 emblems and decals. Both bumpers have been re-chromed and look great!

~The interior: The interior looks pretty good. Seats have no rips or tears. Dash is clean. Door panels are good. The convertible top is brand new and the top frame was blasted and painted. New cherry wood shifter knob. All of the glass is good and windows roll up and down nicely. New front windshield. Over all its very presentable but could use a litte freshening up to be perfect. Still has the original radio and that annoying door buzzer that still works.

~Mechanically: The car runs and drives very well! Engine fires right up with no smoke, leaks or funny noises. Does not overheat. Brakes are good. Transmission shifts smooth. Rear end is perfect. Just put 4 brand new white letter tires on last week. New radiator and battery. Drives straight and true. The car can be driven anywhere without hesitation.

~Things needed: The top works and the motor is fine but one ram has a leak. I disconnected the two rams so it doesn't leak all over the trunk. I just put it up and down manually for now. Will need new horn button and lock for glove box. Driver door has to be opened form the outside. I think the rod slipped out of the inside handle. AC appears to be all there does not blow cold. I think thats about it...  Just a few little things that could be fixed on a weekend for a few hundred bucks.

~All in all this is a rock solid, cool old Cutlass. It stops traffic and draws a crowd wherever you take it. Impossible to even get gas without people coming over to talk to you.

~TERMS OF SALE - non refundable $1,000 deposit due 24 hours after auction ends. Car needs to be paid for in full within 3 days. I will do everything I can to make this a pleasant buying experience but PLEASE do not bid on it if you do not intend to buy it or if you do not have your finances in order. Its not cheap to sell cars on eBay and it just wastes everyone’s time. Shipping is buyers responsibility but I will be happy to assist if you like. Usually $300-$1000 door to door C.O.D. anywhere in the US. International buyers welcome. I can have the car transported to Los Angles for overseas buyers. I encourage anybody who is interested to come look for themselves. I live in San Diego and would be more than happy to pick you up at the airport to view the car in person. I do my best to represent and describe things as honestly and as accurately as possible. Car is sold as is where is with no warranties expressed or implied. Thanks for looking and good luck!

eBay Find of the Day: 1976 GMC Motorhome is a jolly green giant

Wed, 18 Jun 2014

If you have a need to relive the 1970s, then here is the vehicle for you. This groovy blast from the past is a 1976 GMC Motorhome currently for auction in Florida on eBay Motors, and it is one green machine - just not in the modern sense.
The seller claims that this beast has had just two owners and has covered a mere 61,308 miles in its decades on the road. It's reportedly never been restored or repainted and comes with all of the necessary books and manuals. A 7.5-liter (455-cubic-inch) Oldsmobile V8 with a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission powering the front wheels propels this far-out RV, and the double set of rear wheels out back use a self-leveling air suspension to provide a cushy ride.
The purported low miles and good condition really make this GMC a stand out, though. The exterior combination of lime stripes and beige with just a touch of green is like nothing else on the road today. Plus, the polished bumpers and wheels make it all pop. Inside, it's even better with monochromatic green upholstery and shag carpet. It features everything you'd ever need on a long trip, including a bathroom, kitchenette and lots of seating. The only hint of modernization is an HD TV next to the stove, but its size is a perfect fit for the hole there.

Jay Leno bangs up his own Toronado in GT6

Wed, 11 Dec 2013

Ever since Gran Turismo 4, Jay Leno has had at least one of his cars included in the popular racing simulator (starting with the Tank Car), and more of his machines appears in Gran Turismo 6. They include this nose-heavy, front-wheel-drive V8-powered muscle car. Yes, that aptly describes a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado - except Leno's is rear-wheel drive. And it has a Cadillac CTS-V race engine modified to pump out 1,070 horsepower.
For the latest Jay Leno's Garage episode, he takes his real Toronado out for a cruise and then drives the virtual one like he stole it, accruing some body damage along the way. Leno also drives the virtual supercar Mercedes-Benz designed for GT6, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Concept that debuted at the LA Auto Show, along with the real one, which is a 1:1-scale model. The model is radio-controlled and equipped with a small electric motor, sufficient to move it on and off of auto show floors.
Head below to watch the episode, which includes a few words from GT6 creator Kazunori Yamauchi.

GM recalling 8.4M cars, 8.2M related to ignition problems

Mon, 30 Jun 2014

General Motors today announced a truly massive recall covering some 8.4 million vehicles in North America. Most significantly, 8.2 million examples of the affected vehicles are being called back due to "unintended ignition key rotation," though GM spokesperson Alan Adler tells Autoblog that this issue is not like the infamous Chevy Cobalt ignition switch fiasco.
For the sake of perspective, translated to US population, this total recall figure would equal a car for each resident of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, the District of Columbia, Vermont and Wyoming. Combined. Here's how it all breaks down:
7,610,862 vehicles in North America being recalled for unintended ignition key rotation. 6,805,679 are in the United States.
