1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass Factory Red Flat Top Station Wagon This 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass Station Wagon was purchased new at Barr Oldsmobile in Columbia Tennessee by a local prominent Pharmacist who used this RED wagon in his business to delivery items from his Pharmacy to his customers. The car remained in the ownership of the original purchasers family for many years after his death. I purchased the car 3+ years ago from a gentleman who said he was second owner who also lived in Columbia. He told me about the story of the original owner Pharmacist. The original owners family still lives in Columbia and fondly remember this car. I have spoken with them at length about the many stories of their father and this car. The is a factory Code 75 "Fire Red" with Black Interior. The car is loaded with the original 350 Rocket Olds Engine, Turbo 350 Automatic Transmission, Factory Air Conditioning that WORKS, Power Steering, Power Disc Brakes, Factory 12 Bolt Rear-End, Aftermarket None Working Radio, REAL 442 4 Spoke Steering Wheel and More! The car has 110,000 Miles. The car was completely original red paint when I originally purchased the car years ago. The car was in good running & driving condition with faded original red paint. The car has been completely repainted the factory Code 75 "Fire Red" paint. The body is very straight with all original body panels including the original & unique 1970 only front fenders. The paint on the car is EXCELLENT! The floor pans are very nice and are original to the car nice along with all the other body panels. The rear storage well had some pinholes in the bottom and was replaced with a new metal panel. The original floormat is still in the storage well. I decided to update the cars look with the addition of 1970 style 442 Ram Air Hood with Black Stripes and hood pins along with the 1970 unique 442 front grills. The hood is an aftermarket fiberglass hood mounted on the factory hood hinges. The wheels are a set of Edelbrock style 17x8 Inch wheels manufactured by Ultra Wheels with nice tires. I also added a correct and ORIGINAL GM 1970 442 4 Spoke Steering Wheel. All the glass in the car is in nice condition. The rear manual tailgate glass operates properly. The front and rear bumpers on the car are original to the car. The original Chrome is fair at best. The bumpers look good however replating the bumpers will make them match the nice RED paint. The 442 grills are new reproduction. All the doors are in excellent condition. All the exterior stainless steel window trim is nice and original to the car. The body lines are crisp and straight on the car. The wheel well moldings are original to the car. The underside of the car is excellent including the ORIGINAL UNTOUCHED FLOOR PANS. Since this car is a NON-Vista Cruiser this car has a beautiful and straight "Flat Top" roof. The cowl and the base of windshield are excellent. The rear tailight lens are faded red and original to the car. All the weatherstripping on the car is original to the car and in good original condition. The outer door window wipes are original to the car fair at best. I am told that reproductions are not available. Under the hood the car is very original and complete. The original 350 Two Barell engine runs great. The transmission shifts properly and the original factory installed 12 Bolt Rear-end is quiet. The front disc brakes are excellent along with all the suspension components. The factory Air Conditioning is complete still blows cold! The heater and defroster work properly along with the fan motor. The car has a nice complete dual exhaust out the back in excellent condition. Mechanically the car runs and drives good. I would NOT hesitate at all the drive the car anywhere. The interior is very original and complete. The dash pad is original and in excellent condition with NO Cracks. The original door panels are in good condition. The seats are good in good condition. The front seat has been recovered. The carpet is in good condition and appears original. The rear cargo area vinyl and trim is good. The headliner is original and could use some attention as there are several small holes in the headliner. The radio is an aftermarket radio the fits in the hole but is not working. The dome light works properly. Even the "Don't forget you left the key in the ignition" Buzzer" still works! This is a Nice running, driving & collectible Station Wagon that takes the family along with you. Great Hot Rod Power Tour Cruiser! This Or That: 1980 Oldsmobile 442 vs. 1989 BMW 635CSi [w/poll]
Thu, 09 Oct 2014The last time I roped a coworker into an automotive debate, I lost. Resoundingly, I might add. Still, 2,385 voters chose to cast their lots for the Fiat 500 Abarth, as opposed to 5,273 choosing the Ford Fiesta ST, and so I can rest easy in the knowledge that at least 30 percent of you, dear readers, see things my way. I still like to think we have more fun, too.
My loss in the first round of our This or That series, in which two Autoblog editors pick sides on any given topic and then attempt to explain why the other is completely wrong, didn't stop me from picking another good-natured fight, this time with Senior Editor Seyth Miersma. Last time, our chosen sides were eerily similar in design, albeit quite different in actual execution. This time, our vehicular peculiarities couldn't seemingly fall any further from one another: A 1980 Oldsmobile 442 wouldn't seem to match up in comparison to a 1989 BMW 635CSi.
How did we come up with such disparate contenders? Simple, really. Seyth and I mutually agreed to choose a car that's currently for sale online. It had to be built and sold in the 1980s, and it had to be a coupe. The price cap was set at $10,000. The fruits of our searching labors will henceforth be disputed, with Seyth on the side of the Germans, and myself arguing in favor of the Rocket Olds. Am I setting myself up for another lopsided loss?
Ferrari FF pitted against Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser in crazy Generation Gap comparison
Thu, 13 Nov 2014The folks behind Generation Gap have lost their minds with this latest video. The goal here is to determine the ultimate family cruiser, but the choices are what you would least expect, with a heavily modded 1970 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser going up against a 2012 Ferrari FF.
You might anticipate an over-40-year-old Oldsmobile to pale in comparison to any modern Ferrari, but this wagon has a ton of secrets under its skin thanks to Lingenfelter. First, it packs a supercharged LS3 V8 with a claimed 650 horsepower and a six-speed manual gearbox. That big upgrade in power is further helped with air suspension and massive Wilwood disc brakes. The result is nothing short of deafening, with blaring yelps whenever the driver even nudges the accelerator.
The alternative sounds just as good, albeit in very different way. The Ferrari's 6.3-liter V12 pumps out 651 hp and 504 pound-feet with a part-time all-wheel drive system. While the FF lacks a lot of the hauling ability of the Olds, it makes up for the deficit in handling, luxury, and in many eyes, simply by having the famous prancing horse on the grille.
eBay Find of the Day: 1976 GMC Motorhome is a jolly green giant
Wed, 18 Jun 2014If you have a need to relive the 1970s, then here is the vehicle for you. This groovy blast from the past is a 1976 GMC Motorhome currently for auction in Florida on eBay Motors, and it is one green machine - just not in the modern sense.
The seller claims that this beast has had just two owners and has covered a mere 61,308 miles in its decades on the road. It's reportedly never been restored or repainted and comes with all of the necessary books and manuals. A 7.5-liter (455-cubic-inch) Oldsmobile V8 with a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission powering the front wheels propels this far-out RV, and the double set of rear wheels out back use a self-leveling air suspension to provide a cushy ride.
The purported low miles and good condition really make this GMC a stand out, though. The exterior combination of lime stripes and beige with just a touch of green is like nothing else on the road today. Plus, the polished bumpers and wheels make it all pop. Inside, it's even better with monochromatic green upholstery and shag carpet. It features everything you'd ever need on a long trip, including a bathroom, kitchenette and lots of seating. The only hint of modernization is an HD TV next to the stove, but its size is a perfect fit for the hole there.
