1970 Oldsmobile Rallye 350

The Rallye 350 was introduced February 18, 1970 and consisted of option package W-45, which included blackwall tires, a W-25 fiberglass hood, the L74 350 V-8 engine, N34 Custom Sport steering wheel, D35 sport mirrors, FE2 Rallye suspension, N10 dual exhaust and W35 rear deck air spoiler. Oldsmobile built 2,527 copies of the hard top Rallye 350, all with the same color and stripes.

Paint and Body:
I have owned the car for three years, I professionally hired a body man to do the very little body work that was needed and he then put it in epoxy primer with a guide coat so it is ready for final prep and paint. I have photos available when it was sanded down to complete metal to show the lack of rust or any damage.

The car was very solid with very very little rust; there was a dent on the roof so the body man cut the headliner to pound up the dent a bit before filling. A new trunk lid and rear spoiler were added due to a small accident in my garage that only damaged those two areas, they could have been fixed I was told but since new panels were available I simply bought new as I had all intentions of keeping this car.

The bumpers were sandblasted and epoxy primered and ready for paint as well. (The original yellow coating was damaged so I asked around and no one knew how to correct it and they all simply recommended removing the coating and painting.

Engine and Drive Train:

The engine is the original matching numbers, including the #6 high performance heads. Before I purchased the car I had the local president of the Oldsmobile club check it out for me and he was very surprised at how original the car was, he stated the hoses, carb, distributer, and even water pump were the original factory items from Oldsmobile and that the motor had never been opened up. The speedometer shows like 59,000 miles and he thought it was original.
The transmission is the original TH350

The car seems to run and driver very well but it has simply been sitting in my garage for years and it was sitting in the person’s garage “I” bought it from for years so I would not consider it road worthy without looking everything over but I do drive it around the block from time to time and it runs and drives and stops very well. The motor does not smoke or leak anything but the whole car will need to be detailed as it is very dirty/dusty as the photos show.

Interior:
The interior is all original and is very dirty as well but all there (The door panel not shown in photo is under my bed and safe and sound to be included in sale.) It will need a new headliner,  The original AM/FM stereo is in place but not working. The Air conditioning is all in place and there and to be honest I never even checked to see if it worked so let’s just say it does not. It is the original carpet and in very nice shape (The Oldsmobile club president told me the build sheet should be under the front seat but I have not looked)

Other:

All parts you do not see in photos (Rear window, chrome, door panel, wheel well trim) etc... I do have and will be included with car.

The car simply really needs to be gone through from front to back with detailing, then a paint job, some minor interior work and you have a “very” special car on your hands at that point. This is one of the good ones that was not beat up, it was taken care of its whole existence and it shows once you see it in person. I simply need to sell as times are hard.
I have the original 14 X 7 yellow rally wheels to be included with sale but they are not mounted to tires. The tires and rims on car now in photos are not included unless the “BUY IT NOW IS USED” but can be negotiated in with car after sale if you desire. If you do not want the tires and rims presently on car I will swap them out with others but they are nothing special.

Ferrari FF pitted against Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser in crazy Generation Gap comparison

Thu, 13 Nov 2014

The folks behind Generation Gap have lost their minds with this latest video. The goal here is to determine the ultimate family cruiser, but the choices are what you would least expect, with a heavily modded 1970 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser going up against a 2012 Ferrari FF.
You might anticipate an over-40-year-old Oldsmobile to pale in comparison to any modern Ferrari, but this wagon has a ton of secrets under its skin thanks to Lingenfelter. First, it packs a supercharged LS3 V8 with a claimed 650 horsepower and a six-speed manual gearbox. That big upgrade in power is further helped with air suspension and massive Wilwood disc brakes. The result is nothing short of deafening, with blaring yelps whenever the driver even nudges the accelerator.
The alternative sounds just as good, albeit in very different way. The Ferrari's 6.3-liter V12 pumps out 651 hp and 504 pound-feet with a part-time all-wheel drive system. While the FF lacks a lot of the hauling ability of the Olds, it makes up for the deficit in handling, luxury, and in many eyes, simply by having the famous prancing horse on the grille.

eBay Find of the Day: 1976 GMC Motorhome is a jolly green giant

Wed, 18 Jun 2014

If you have a need to relive the 1970s, then here is the vehicle for you. This groovy blast from the past is a 1976 GMC Motorhome currently for auction in Florida on eBay Motors, and it is one green machine - just not in the modern sense.
The seller claims that this beast has had just two owners and has covered a mere 61,308 miles in its decades on the road. It's reportedly never been restored or repainted and comes with all of the necessary books and manuals. A 7.5-liter (455-cubic-inch) Oldsmobile V8 with a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission powering the front wheels propels this far-out RV, and the double set of rear wheels out back use a self-leveling air suspension to provide a cushy ride.
The purported low miles and good condition really make this GMC a stand out, though. The exterior combination of lime stripes and beige with just a touch of green is like nothing else on the road today. Plus, the polished bumpers and wheels make it all pop. Inside, it's even better with monochromatic green upholstery and shag carpet. It features everything you'd ever need on a long trip, including a bathroom, kitchenette and lots of seating. The only hint of modernization is an HD TV next to the stove, but its size is a perfect fit for the hole there.

Jay Leno bangs up his own Toronado in GT6

Wed, 11 Dec 2013

Ever since Gran Turismo 4, Jay Leno has had at least one of his cars included in the popular racing simulator (starting with the Tank Car), and more of his machines appears in Gran Turismo 6. They include this nose-heavy, front-wheel-drive V8-powered muscle car. Yes, that aptly describes a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado - except Leno's is rear-wheel drive. And it has a Cadillac CTS-V race engine modified to pump out 1,070 horsepower.
For the latest Jay Leno's Garage episode, he takes his real Toronado out for a cruise and then drives the virtual one like he stole it, accruing some body damage along the way. Leno also drives the virtual supercar Mercedes-Benz designed for GT6, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Concept that debuted at the LA Auto Show, along with the real one, which is a 1:1-scale model. The model is radio-controlled and equipped with a small electric motor, sufficient to move it on and off of auto show floors.
Head below to watch the episode, which includes a few words from GT6 creator Kazunori Yamauchi.
