1964 Oldsmobile Eighty-eight Convertible Triple- White on 2040-cars

Year:1964 Mileage:82006
Location:

Louisville, Kentucky, United States

Here is a nice driver quality convertible ready to be enjoyed by someone else. I've had it for seven years and a total of 1800 miles only! The mileage of 82,000 is the actual mileage. It was a one-family owned car when I bought it. It has been garage kept always by the original owner and by me also. The car has been very well maintained always and comes with much original paperwork, invoices and documentation. The car is equipped with a 394 cu. in. 280 HP 2-bl. carb, Hydramatic auto trans., Power steering, Power brakes, Power windows, Power top, Tinted glass, AM Radio, Speed sentinel, remote operated driver's side mirror & clock. Everything works on this car and works correctly. It was re-painted in 1985 in it's correct Provincial White original color. The interior is still the original Parchment White vinyl. The top was replaced in 2011 with original style GM pinpoint white vinyl and goes up & down with the flip of the switch. I've tried to show the main flaws with the body/paint in the pictures. The rear driver's side quarter has some slight creases from a garage incident by the previous owner (ran into bicycle). The passenger's side rear quarter trim was scraped at some time with no damage to the body-the trim could be removed and fixed. The lower rear rockers on both sides have some blistering that is hard to see in the pictures but is obvious and probably the start of some light rust under the paint. There is not any rust evident anywhere. The trunk & floors are excellent. The chrome & trim are very good with the exception of the front bumper has a slight tweek to it as seen in the picture-not bad but noticeable. The original interior has some splits in the front seat bottom but the back of the seat and the back passenger seat are very good. The original carpet was worn and faded and I had it replaced when the top was re-done in spring of 2011. The carpet used was the same as original-black molded loop from AAC Carpet Co. in Aniston AL.- looks great! This car is very sound mechanically! The motor starts right away, still has great power, runs quiet and was just serviced; oil, lube & filter, new plugs, plug wires, cap, rotor, points, condenser, air & fuel filter. The radiator was flushed & two gallons of new antifreeze added. The battery is new. The brakes we're gone thru and trans serviced in 2012-Rebuilt M/C, new fr. & rr. wheel cylinders & hoses, new fr. & rr. shoes and all four drums turned. I have not done anything to the suspension and it does not seem to need anything. It really drives smooth and floats over railroad tracks. The steering is effortless with no pulling or sloppy feeling. The original tinted glass is perfect-no rock chips, cracks etc. and all four power windows work good. The original clock has had a quartz movement installed last fall and keeps perfect time! I always strive to keep everything working and stock on these classic cars right down to the idiot lights-which also work on this car. Even the green engine cold light works-lights up 'COLD' when you first start the engine, goes out when engine reaches temperature! This sale includes everything shown in the pics; All (5) original Oldsmobile Factory Service manuals, Original Dealer Brochures, Original Owner's manual, Paint Brochure, Convertible top Operations Manual and packet of service receipts(not shown). The original conv. top boot is included with no tears or rips, but it has shrunk from 50 years of age and has to be put on in the hot sun to make the stretch & fit. The trunk contains the original jack complete with the spare I believe to be an original, with wear but a bias ply whitewall. Even the original trunk pad and spare cover are present and in good condition. The (4) tires on the car are Firestone whitewalls with less than 900 miles on them! This all in all is a perfect car ready to use on a regular basis or as I have used it, only on nice days in good weather. It has not even been rained on in my seven years of ownership! It is not a show car but could be with some work if that is what you want. E-mail with questions if I forgot anything & thanks for looking!

This Or That: 1980 Oldsmobile 442 vs. 1989 BMW 635CSi [w/poll]

Thu, 09 Oct 2014

The last time I roped a coworker into an automotive debate, I lost. Resoundingly, I might add. Still, 2,385 voters chose to cast their lots for the Fiat 500 Abarth, as opposed to 5,273 choosing the Ford Fiesta ST, and so I can rest easy in the knowledge that at least 30 percent of you, dear readers, see things my way. I still like to think we have more fun, too.
My loss in the first round of our This or That series, in which two Autoblog editors pick sides on any given topic and then attempt to explain why the other is completely wrong, didn't stop me from picking another good-natured fight, this time with Senior Editor Seyth Miersma. Last time, our chosen sides were eerily similar in design, albeit quite different in actual execution. This time, our vehicular peculiarities couldn't seemingly fall any further from one another: A 1980 Oldsmobile 442 wouldn't seem to match up in comparison to a 1989 BMW 635CSi.
How did we come up with such disparate contenders? Simple, really. Seyth and I mutually agreed to choose a car that's currently for sale online. It had to be built and sold in the 1980s, and it had to be a coupe. The price cap was set at $10,000. The fruits of our searching labors will henceforth be disputed, with Seyth on the side of the Germans, and myself arguing in favor of the Rocket Olds. Am I setting myself up for another lopsided loss?

Jay Leno bangs up his own Toronado in GT6

Wed, 11 Dec 2013

Ever since Gran Turismo 4, Jay Leno has had at least one of his cars included in the popular racing simulator (starting with the Tank Car), and more of his machines appears in Gran Turismo 6. They include this nose-heavy, front-wheel-drive V8-powered muscle car. Yes, that aptly describes a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado - except Leno's is rear-wheel drive. And it has a Cadillac CTS-V race engine modified to pump out 1,070 horsepower.
For the latest Jay Leno's Garage episode, he takes his real Toronado out for a cruise and then drives the virtual one like he stole it, accruing some body damage along the way. Leno also drives the virtual supercar Mercedes-Benz designed for GT6, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Concept that debuted at the LA Auto Show, along with the real one, which is a 1:1-scale model. The model is radio-controlled and equipped with a small electric motor, sufficient to move it on and off of auto show floors.
Head below to watch the episode, which includes a few words from GT6 creator Kazunori Yamauchi.

Ferrari FF pitted against Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser in crazy Generation Gap comparison

Thu, 13 Nov 2014

The folks behind Generation Gap have lost their minds with this latest video. The goal here is to determine the ultimate family cruiser, but the choices are what you would least expect, with a heavily modded 1970 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser going up against a 2012 Ferrari FF.
You might anticipate an over-40-year-old Oldsmobile to pale in comparison to any modern Ferrari, but this wagon has a ton of secrets under its skin thanks to Lingenfelter. First, it packs a supercharged LS3 V8 with a claimed 650 horsepower and a six-speed manual gearbox. That big upgrade in power is further helped with air suspension and massive Wilwood disc brakes. The result is nothing short of deafening, with blaring yelps whenever the driver even nudges the accelerator.
The alternative sounds just as good, albeit in very different way. The Ferrari's 6.3-liter V12 pumps out 651 hp and 504 pound-feet with a part-time all-wheel drive system. While the FF lacks a lot of the hauling ability of the Olds, it makes up for the deficit in handling, luxury, and in many eyes, simply by having the famous prancing horse on the grille.
