Up for sale is my very rare 1972 Olds 442 Convertible.   This is true 442 and it is a 3-owner car.  This car is one of 1,025 442 convertible automatics built that year.  They made a total of 1041 convertibles, so the car is super rare.  This car has the 442 option with the W29 handling package, original M code in the vin - 350 engine with the 4bbl carburetor.  It has one repaint in beautiful dark green color and has brand new interior. The paint is an older restoration that still shines.  The car is loaded with options, like factory bucket seats, dual gate Hurst his and hers shifter, power steering, power brakes, factory air conditioning, tilt wheel, tach and gauges in the dash, factory 8 track player, AMFM radio, map light, power release trunk, power locks, W29 handling package with 12 bolt rear, dual trumpet exhaust, ram air hood with the original ram air cleaner, rear wing spoiler, power convertible top and rally wheels.

This car has a rebuilt engine and transmission (2009), new convertible top with rear glass window, new tires, new alternator and new battery. The car is an original 442 that runs, drive, turns, stops and performs very well.  It comes with spare and jack in the trunk also.

The car is completely matching numbers with the original “born with” engine (see pictures of vin stamp on engine block), transmission, rear end etc. This car runs great, has new brakes  It runs, handles and stops very well.  Brake lights, headlights, blinkers, interior lights including the am/fm radio all work.  The horn and all of the gauges work great, but the original 8 track turns on, can hear run, light comes on but the tape does not play sound.  The brake booster is the original Delco Moraine.  The car has some rust bubbles starting at the bottom of the trunk lid edge, which is very common on these cars.  It also has a few at the lower drivers quarter panel behind the rear wheel.  This car is solid though and looks great.  This is a driver car that could be bought and driven to shows now.  It’s a rare color and optioned car ……best of all it’s a matching numbers 442 convertible, super rare.  This car gets thumbs up everywhere I go.

The car has the following long list of options:

  • 442 – 350 engine with 4bbl carburetor
  • W29 handling package
  • Automatic Transmission
  • Power steering
  • Power brakes
  • 12 bolt rear end
  • center console
  • deluxe seat belts
  • rear spoiler equipment
  • ralley wheels
  • Power top
  • 8 track player
  • AM FM radio
  • bucket seats
  • Hurst dual gate “his and hers” shifter
  • tachometer with clock
  • remote trunk release
  • map light
  • ram-air hood
  • ram-air air cleaner
  • tilt steering wheel
  • power door locks
  • air conditioning

Feel free to email me with any questions.  This car will appreciate in value over the next several years and is better than money sitting in your bank account, since you can enjoy the car while it appreciates (should appreciate faster than the interest from the loan for that matter).  This is a great example of a true matching number 442 Convertible.  It is very hard to find cars like this 1 of 1041 made…..so Bid early, don’t miss out.

GM recalling 8.4M cars, 8.2M related to ignition problems

Mon, 30 Jun 2014

General Motors today announced a truly massive recall covering some 8.4 million vehicles in North America. Most significantly, 8.2 million examples of the affected vehicles are being called back due to "unintended ignition key rotation," though GM spokesperson Alan Adler tells Autoblog that this issue is not like the infamous Chevy Cobalt ignition switch fiasco.
For the sake of perspective, translated to US population, this total recall figure would equal a car for each resident of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, the District of Columbia, Vermont and Wyoming. Combined. Here's how it all breaks down:
7,610,862 vehicles in North America being recalled for unintended ignition key rotation. 6,805,679 are in the United States.

Ferrari FF pitted against Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser in crazy Generation Gap comparison

Thu, 13 Nov 2014

The folks behind Generation Gap have lost their minds with this latest video. The goal here is to determine the ultimate family cruiser, but the choices are what you would least expect, with a heavily modded 1970 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser going up against a 2012 Ferrari FF.
You might anticipate an over-40-year-old Oldsmobile to pale in comparison to any modern Ferrari, but this wagon has a ton of secrets under its skin thanks to Lingenfelter. First, it packs a supercharged LS3 V8 with a claimed 650 horsepower and a six-speed manual gearbox. That big upgrade in power is further helped with air suspension and massive Wilwood disc brakes. The result is nothing short of deafening, with blaring yelps whenever the driver even nudges the accelerator.
The alternative sounds just as good, albeit in very different way. The Ferrari's 6.3-liter V12 pumps out 651 hp and 504 pound-feet with a part-time all-wheel drive system. While the FF lacks a lot of the hauling ability of the Olds, it makes up for the deficit in handling, luxury, and in many eyes, simply by having the famous prancing horse on the grille.

This Or That: 1980 Oldsmobile 442 vs. 1989 BMW 635CSi [w/poll]

Thu, 09 Oct 2014

The last time I roped a coworker into an automotive debate, I lost. Resoundingly, I might add. Still, 2,385 voters chose to cast their lots for the Fiat 500 Abarth, as opposed to 5,273 choosing the Ford Fiesta ST, and so I can rest easy in the knowledge that at least 30 percent of you, dear readers, see things my way. I still like to think we have more fun, too.
My loss in the first round of our This or That series, in which two Autoblog editors pick sides on any given topic and then attempt to explain why the other is completely wrong, didn't stop me from picking another good-natured fight, this time with Senior Editor Seyth Miersma. Last time, our chosen sides were eerily similar in design, albeit quite different in actual execution. This time, our vehicular peculiarities couldn't seemingly fall any further from one another: A 1980 Oldsmobile 442 wouldn't seem to match up in comparison to a 1989 BMW 635CSi.
How did we come up with such disparate contenders? Simple, really. Seyth and I mutually agreed to choose a car that's currently for sale online. It had to be built and sold in the 1980s, and it had to be a coupe. The price cap was set at $10,000. The fruits of our searching labors will henceforth be disputed, with Seyth on the side of the Germans, and myself arguing in favor of the Rocket Olds. Am I setting myself up for another lopsided loss?
