Seller Note: This is a relist where it almost made reserve.  I will be a bit slow with questions this week for business reasons, but will respond as promptly as possible.  Please bear with us.

Seller Note: The silly lowball offers and crazy swaps can get out of hand.   1.  The opening price IS the minimum price.  We all know it is worth more than that; I just don't want to pay Mecum or Barrett/Jackson crazy seller & buyer fees.
2.  The ONLY thing we will consider is what I'm going to build with the sales proceeds... a 1969 Trans/Am convertible with a 2012 CTS-V drivetrain/interior/suspension.

Very Rare MATCHING NUMBER 1972 Hurst/Olds Pace Car ready to go.

One of the 37 Indy 500 Pace Cars actually on the track.

According to the 1972 Hurst Olds registry, it was car #34; driven by Indy 500 Director Elmer Ostermeyer.

The original protect-o-plate (in the file) says 4/7/72, when it was purchased by HURST PERFORMANCE RESEARCH CORP., according to the original Warranty Card #410905 (in the file).

After the race, it was transferred from the track to Charlie Stewart Olds in Indy and sold under original invoice (in the file) stock number B17 on 6/1/72 to Lyle H. with 1,287 miles on it.
Lyle sold it to Norman G. in Louisville in DEC-83
Norman sold it to Steve M. in Boise in JUL-92
Steve sold it to Larry H. in Hyannis in APR-2002
Larry sold it to John E. in New Hampshire in APR-2005
... who sold it to me on my 50th birthday in November of 2011.
I have been in contact with every living prior owner we could find.

The VIN number was confirmed with Hurst/Olds Historian Mr. Robert Sheively as Track car #34.

I drove it to play golf on Friday and it has 99,6xx miles on it

R12 A/C, Power Convertible Top, Power Steering, Power Brakes, Power Windows, Tilt Wheel, Tick-Tach, TH400 Automatic, RamAir 455 engine

Multiple Show Winner

This car wins about every show it enters, including the Texas Gulf Coast Oldsmobile show.

The original yellow flags and mounts were long gone, so we had correct replicas custom fabricated for easy mounting to the rear frame.  They are removable with basic hitch pins.

Color copies of the original documentation papers are framed for presentation at car shows (the originals are in a secure place)

The car is in fantastic condition and runs beautifully.  The R12 A/C has a new A6 compressor (the original compressor will be in the trunk).

Sale includes Top Boot, Doc Frame, Trophies and Plexi Show Board
If you are in Texas, the 1972 Texas License Plates will also go with the car. It was titled with those plates. Clear Texas Title with no liens.

Won Gulf Coast Olds Show in 2012, Guitars & Cars Top 40 in Houston award 2013, plus many others.

This is an awesome and rare part of racing history, is more fun to drive than a mutual fund, and can't be worth zero like a stock.  Drive it home.

Serious investors should email with questions.

Shipping: I think I have found the only honest shipping broker in the US, so I'd be happy to help with shipping.  All of the documents and accessories will be secured in the trunk, and we will overnight the trunk keys, title, and other critical items directly to Buyer.  It will have at least 1/4 tank of gas (so it does not run out on the way home), and probably more.  A slimeball in NY sent a LT1 Vette to us, and it ran empty as it came off of the truck... not nice.

This Or That: 1980 Oldsmobile 442 vs. 1989 BMW 635CSi [w/poll]

Thu, 09 Oct 2014

The last time I roped a coworker into an automotive debate, I lost. Resoundingly, I might add. Still, 2,385 voters chose to cast their lots for the Fiat 500 Abarth, as opposed to 5,273 choosing the Ford Fiesta ST, and so I can rest easy in the knowledge that at least 30 percent of you, dear readers, see things my way. I still like to think we have more fun, too.
My loss in the first round of our This or That series, in which two Autoblog editors pick sides on any given topic and then attempt to explain why the other is completely wrong, didn't stop me from picking another good-natured fight, this time with Senior Editor Seyth Miersma. Last time, our chosen sides were eerily similar in design, albeit quite different in actual execution. This time, our vehicular peculiarities couldn't seemingly fall any further from one another: A 1980 Oldsmobile 442 wouldn't seem to match up in comparison to a 1989 BMW 635CSi.
How did we come up with such disparate contenders? Simple, really. Seyth and I mutually agreed to choose a car that's currently for sale online. It had to be built and sold in the 1980s, and it had to be a coupe. The price cap was set at $10,000. The fruits of our searching labors will henceforth be disputed, with Seyth on the side of the Germans, and myself arguing in favor of the Rocket Olds. Am I setting myself up for another lopsided loss?

Ferrari FF pitted against Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser in crazy Generation Gap comparison

Thu, 13 Nov 2014

The folks behind Generation Gap have lost their minds with this latest video. The goal here is to determine the ultimate family cruiser, but the choices are what you would least expect, with a heavily modded 1970 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser going up against a 2012 Ferrari FF.
You might anticipate an over-40-year-old Oldsmobile to pale in comparison to any modern Ferrari, but this wagon has a ton of secrets under its skin thanks to Lingenfelter. First, it packs a supercharged LS3 V8 with a claimed 650 horsepower and a six-speed manual gearbox. That big upgrade in power is further helped with air suspension and massive Wilwood disc brakes. The result is nothing short of deafening, with blaring yelps whenever the driver even nudges the accelerator.
The alternative sounds just as good, albeit in very different way. The Ferrari's 6.3-liter V12 pumps out 651 hp and 504 pound-feet with a part-time all-wheel drive system. While the FF lacks a lot of the hauling ability of the Olds, it makes up for the deficit in handling, luxury, and in many eyes, simply by having the famous prancing horse on the grille.

eBay Find of the Day: 1976 GMC Motorhome is a jolly green giant

Wed, 18 Jun 2014

If you have a need to relive the 1970s, then here is the vehicle for you. This groovy blast from the past is a 1976 GMC Motorhome currently for auction in Florida on eBay Motors, and it is one green machine - just not in the modern sense.
The seller claims that this beast has had just two owners and has covered a mere 61,308 miles in its decades on the road. It's reportedly never been restored or repainted and comes with all of the necessary books and manuals. A 7.5-liter (455-cubic-inch) Oldsmobile V8 with a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission powering the front wheels propels this far-out RV, and the double set of rear wheels out back use a self-leveling air suspension to provide a cushy ride.
The purported low miles and good condition really make this GMC a stand out, though. The exterior combination of lime stripes and beige with just a touch of green is like nothing else on the road today. Plus, the polished bumpers and wheels make it all pop. Inside, it's even better with monochromatic green upholstery and shag carpet. It features everything you'd ever need on a long trip, including a bathroom, kitchenette and lots of seating. The only hint of modernization is an HD TV next to the stove, but its size is a perfect fit for the hole there.
