1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 W30 Convertible Manual Shift Four Speed on 2040-cars

Year:1970 Mileage:39862

Chicago, Illinois, United States

Rare original paint 1970 Olds 442 W30 Four Speed Convertible.   One of only a few documented 1970 W30 manual shift cars documented by W30 in box 3 of its buildsheet,!!!!!               Its 1973 and you have a beautiful 1970 Olds W30 four speed convertible.  Its red with black top, black stripes and black interior.  It has  455 motor with 3.91 gears and its fast, real fast.  But you run into a little bit of trouble and you lose your license within a couple of years.  The car is garaged with 39,000 miles and some change.  Its your pride and joy so what do you do?  You drive the car to the end of the driveway and back to the garage.  Many suitors come calling buy you never sell.  Never.  Eventually a tree grows in front of the garage and it becomes trapped inside in a area outside of Detroit Michigan.

Fast forward to 2005.  Its like the starting line at a bassmasters event and your at a motel with other pros waiting to go see and possibly buy the legendary car which has surfaced after all these years.  Anticipation is high as an unrestored W30 four speed convertible the holy grail of oldsmobiles awaits. The daughter of the original owner has already sold the car to the guys at the local garage and the words out the car is available. Only a handful of these rare W30 4 Speed convertibles have surfaced in the last 44 years.  This car along with only a few others has a buildsheet with W30 in box three of its buildsheet,.  It seems that only a few of the spring cars, say April or later have it if they still retain their buildsheets.  The earlier production cars for example built in 11 of 1969 do not.  This car also has a rare line sheet found in 2006 some 36 years after the car was built that was found under the passenger side carpets upon inspection after I bought the car. It shows the W30 option with the M21 4 speed and the cars vin in the top right corner of the body line sheet.  The trans numbers on the pad are perfect, the engine pad was rough and crusty when I bought the car and I only recent lightly scrubbed surface rust and paint off the pad to try and get a good look at the numbers.. I had no reason to assume that the motor was anything but matching given the circumstances of how the car survived and how it was originally found and sold. It has been inspected several times .   Once on the east coast by an oldsmobile chapter president and also down in Texas when I had the car gone through before the Bowling Green Nationals before the  show in I think 2007.  Because so few of these cars with any kind of paperwork had been or have been found to date I didn't to mess with the pad .  I welcome any expert to come and inspect the car before purchase. Having owned the car for the last seven years I can tell you the more I detail it the better it gets.. Especially underneath it. The car runs and drives excellent, the trunk is awesome ,interior is very good and the body and paint are still in excellent shape.  Feel free to call with any questions.. I will be uploading more pics to the internet for viewing.  Tom 773-263-4660

GM recalling 8.4M cars, 8.2M related to ignition problems

Mon, 30 Jun 2014

General Motors today announced a truly massive recall covering some 8.4 million vehicles in North America. Most significantly, 8.2 million examples of the affected vehicles are being called back due to "unintended ignition key rotation," though GM spokesperson Alan Adler tells Autoblog that this issue is not like the infamous Chevy Cobalt ignition switch fiasco.
For the sake of perspective, translated to US population, this total recall figure would equal a car for each resident of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, the District of Columbia, Vermont and Wyoming. Combined. Here's how it all breaks down:
7,610,862 vehicles in North America being recalled for unintended ignition key rotation. 6,805,679 are in the United States.

Jay Leno bangs up his own Toronado in GT6

Wed, 11 Dec 2013

Ever since Gran Turismo 4, Jay Leno has had at least one of his cars included in the popular racing simulator (starting with the Tank Car), and more of his machines appears in Gran Turismo 6. They include this nose-heavy, front-wheel-drive V8-powered muscle car. Yes, that aptly describes a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado - except Leno's is rear-wheel drive. And it has a Cadillac CTS-V race engine modified to pump out 1,070 horsepower.
For the latest Jay Leno's Garage episode, he takes his real Toronado out for a cruise and then drives the virtual one like he stole it, accruing some body damage along the way. Leno also drives the virtual supercar Mercedes-Benz designed for GT6, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Concept that debuted at the LA Auto Show, along with the real one, which is a 1:1-scale model. The model is radio-controlled and equipped with a small electric motor, sufficient to move it on and off of auto show floors.
Head below to watch the episode, which includes a few words from GT6 creator Kazunori Yamauchi.

eBay Find of the Day: 1976 GMC Motorhome is a jolly green giant

Wed, 18 Jun 2014

If you have a need to relive the 1970s, then here is the vehicle for you. This groovy blast from the past is a 1976 GMC Motorhome currently for auction in Florida on eBay Motors, and it is one green machine - just not in the modern sense.
The seller claims that this beast has had just two owners and has covered a mere 61,308 miles in its decades on the road. It's reportedly never been restored or repainted and comes with all of the necessary books and manuals. A 7.5-liter (455-cubic-inch) Oldsmobile V8 with a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission powering the front wheels propels this far-out RV, and the double set of rear wheels out back use a self-leveling air suspension to provide a cushy ride.
The purported low miles and good condition really make this GMC a stand out, though. The exterior combination of lime stripes and beige with just a touch of green is like nothing else on the road today. Plus, the polished bumpers and wheels make it all pop. Inside, it's even better with monochromatic green upholstery and shag carpet. It features everything you'd ever need on a long trip, including a bathroom, kitchenette and lots of seating. The only hint of modernization is an HD TV next to the stove, but its size is a perfect fit for the hole there.
