1970 Oldsmobile 4-4-2/Cutlass Indianapolis 500 Pace Car #112 1970 442 Pace Car #112 of 159 true original track cars built
VIN# 342670M299059
On May 30, 1970 Terry White Sr. who owned an Oldsmobile Dealership in Indianapolis bought this car from the Oldsmobile Corporate while at the track. He purchased this car for his wife’s (Evelyn) birthday. He sold the dealership in August 1970 and moved to Naples Florida to retire. The car was driven very little until their deaths. The car was passed on to his son (07/28/1988) Terry G. White who resided in Sarasota Florida. Terry Parked the car in his garage with plans to restore it. The car sat in his garage until I received a phone call from a friend telling me he knew where there was a documented (one family owned) 1970 olds pace car that was going to be for sale. Having owned many 1968 Oldsmobile’s I jumped at the chance of buying it. Before purchasing it I contacted the GM Heritage Center and spoke to Jim Vehko who documented that this car was indeed a true 1970 original Indianapolis Track Pace Car. This car is #112 of the original 159 built for official track/parade duty in 1970. Jim was kind enough document this information in an official letter dated 08-14-2013 as seen in the photos. After receiving the certified letter from the GM Heritage Center I negotiated buying the car. I purchased the car on August 20, 1970. After purchasing the car I was given a box full of original documentation/items that I couldn’t believe. Please see the list of original items that will go with the car. I ended up purchasing two of the original items that he didn’t have in the box (Original Tickets). This is pretty much the mother load of original documented items.
1) 2, 1970 Indianapolis 500 original programs 2) 1970 Indianapolis 500 press kit 3) 1970 Oldsmobile Dealer Brochure 4) 1970 original Indianapolis 500 Hat 5) 1970 original Indianapolis 500 track jacket 6) Original copies of all 1970 pace car advertisement 7) August 1970 Motor Trend complete magazine 8) June 1970 Sports illustrated complete magazine 9) May 2012 5 page documentary article on the 70 pace car 10) September 2002 Journey with Olds Original Magazine 11) Copies of all original Florida titles and documentation history 12) 1970 original Glove Box plastic documents holder 13) 1970 Original Owners Manual 14) 1970 Original Consumer Information Booklet 15) 1970 original Oldsmobile New Vehicle Warranty Booklet 16) 1970 Protector Plate 17) 1970 original Accessories Booklet 18) 1970 Media Room Press and Badge #0288 19) 1970 Official Press Pit Badge #1 with Pin # 2905 20) 1970 Official Press Pit Badge #3 with Pin # 9269 21) 1970 Official Indy 500 patch 22) 2, Original 1970 Speedway 500 Gold Course score cards 23) 1970 Indy 500 Post Card 24) Official Indianapolis 500 original Ticket Mail Envelope Post Marked May 1970 25) Official 1970 Tack will call envelope 26) 1970 Indy 500 Pit Pass Card # 3960 27) 4, 1970 Indy 500 “South Vista Stand” tickets, #’s 4959, 4960, 4205, 4206 28) 1970 Paddock Ticket (Sec. 28, Row L, Section 12 29) 1970 Palace Theater Ticket #00502 30) 1970 Assembly manual 31) Original 1970 Florida Tag that the car had on it( FL TAG# 16L-134) 32) Original pictures of car with the original owner 33) Numerous misc. original documentation in binders
Now to the car! I got the car home and immediately dropped the gas tank. I did a complete service to the car and got it started. It runs very strong. Believe it or not most everything on the car worked except the A/C. I actually drove the car around the blocks a few times for fun. Car has 53629 original miles. Motor transmission and rear-end are numbers matching. I parked the car in my garage until the day I could give it what it deserves, a true rotisserie restoration. Unfortunately Life doesn’t always go as planned and I must sell this rare care. The car has the usual rust areas, not to bad but in need of a restoration. The interior is actually in remarkable condition. It could be saved for sure. Everything is on the car or in the trunk. I have amassed a trunk full of original extra parts that will also go along with the car. I also found an original ram air hood in mint condition that will go with the car. Please see all pictures of the car. Please ask all questions prior to bidding. Please feel free to email me to set up a time to inspect the car. I am sure I am leaving out something about this rare car. So please don’t hesitate to ask? Good Luck!!

Ferrari FF pitted against Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser in crazy Generation Gap comparison
Thu, 13 Nov 2014The folks behind Generation Gap have lost their minds with this latest video. The goal here is to determine the ultimate family cruiser, but the choices are what you would least expect, with a heavily modded 1970 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser going up against a 2012 Ferrari FF.
You might anticipate an over-40-year-old Oldsmobile to pale in comparison to any modern Ferrari, but this wagon has a ton of secrets under its skin thanks to Lingenfelter. First, it packs a supercharged LS3 V8 with a claimed 650 horsepower and a six-speed manual gearbox. That big upgrade in power is further helped with air suspension and massive Wilwood disc brakes. The result is nothing short of deafening, with blaring yelps whenever the driver even nudges the accelerator.
The alternative sounds just as good, albeit in very different way. The Ferrari's 6.3-liter V12 pumps out 651 hp and 504 pound-feet with a part-time all-wheel drive system. While the FF lacks a lot of the hauling ability of the Olds, it makes up for the deficit in handling, luxury, and in many eyes, simply by having the famous prancing horse on the grille.
eBay Find of the Day: 1976 GMC Motorhome is a jolly green giant
Wed, 18 Jun 2014If you have a need to relive the 1970s, then here is the vehicle for you. This groovy blast from the past is a 1976 GMC Motorhome currently for auction in Florida on eBay Motors, and it is one green machine - just not in the modern sense.
The seller claims that this beast has had just two owners and has covered a mere 61,308 miles in its decades on the road. It's reportedly never been restored or repainted and comes with all of the necessary books and manuals. A 7.5-liter (455-cubic-inch) Oldsmobile V8 with a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission powering the front wheels propels this far-out RV, and the double set of rear wheels out back use a self-leveling air suspension to provide a cushy ride.
The purported low miles and good condition really make this GMC a stand out, though. The exterior combination of lime stripes and beige with just a touch of green is like nothing else on the road today. Plus, the polished bumpers and wheels make it all pop. Inside, it's even better with monochromatic green upholstery and shag carpet. It features everything you'd ever need on a long trip, including a bathroom, kitchenette and lots of seating. The only hint of modernization is an HD TV next to the stove, but its size is a perfect fit for the hole there.
This Or That: 1980 Oldsmobile 442 vs. 1989 BMW 635CSi [w/poll]
Thu, 09 Oct 2014The last time I roped a coworker into an automotive debate, I lost. Resoundingly, I might add. Still, 2,385 voters chose to cast their lots for the Fiat 500 Abarth, as opposed to 5,273 choosing the Ford Fiesta ST, and so I can rest easy in the knowledge that at least 30 percent of you, dear readers, see things my way. I still like to think we have more fun, too.
My loss in the first round of our This or That series, in which two Autoblog editors pick sides on any given topic and then attempt to explain why the other is completely wrong, didn't stop me from picking another good-natured fight, this time with Senior Editor Seyth Miersma. Last time, our chosen sides were eerily similar in design, albeit quite different in actual execution. This time, our vehicular peculiarities couldn't seemingly fall any further from one another: A 1980 Oldsmobile 442 wouldn't seem to match up in comparison to a 1989 BMW 635CSi.
How did we come up with such disparate contenders? Simple, really. Seyth and I mutually agreed to choose a car that's currently for sale online. It had to be built and sold in the 1980s, and it had to be a coupe. The price cap was set at $10,000. The fruits of our searching labors will henceforth be disputed, with Seyth on the side of the Germans, and myself arguing in favor of the Rocket Olds. Am I setting myself up for another lopsided loss?
