Modifications that matter: TEIN Coil-Overs + NUMEROUS OTHER SUSPENSION PARTS STR Racing Wheels (comes with chrome OEM wheels and tires too) Stillen Cold Air Intake Full Exhaust (DP, TP, HKS High-Power Knock-off; original exhaust available with NEW cats) Aftermarket Blow-off Valves (pair) Z1 Motorsports ECU Z1 Motorsports Short Shifter and Shifter Bracket AEM Boost Gauge/Controller (digital) Under-drive pulley Additional things the car has: Hurst shift knob (have factory knob) LED accent lighting (2 modes + color change) HID-low beam (6000K) (original bulbs can be installed if desired) Engine recently rebuilt by previous owner (and painted, it wasn't me, I swear I have more taste than that) Wheel spacers for the STR wheels, comes with additional set that can be installed on the rear. Newer brake pads Newer tires (wider) Stillen Body kit Various OEM parts included with the car NEW catalytic converters This car has no radio other than the sweet, sweet sound of a twin-turbo drive train. (Where did you think those gauges were installed? It is more stealthy, and desirable, trust me.) This car ain't no garage queen. Nope. This car runs and drives like a champion because it is one, and I have the time slips from Sacramento Raceway to prove it (14.1 seconds @ 13 PSI, currently running 15 PSI). This car is also an excellent platform for other motorsports, or will suffice as an excellent GT car (as it was intended); whatever your path, in driving this car, you will experience enjoyment. The car is ready to be painted the color of your dreams (currently painted flat-white with black accents). The original seats are ready to be restored or refinished in the fashion of your choosing. If fact, the interior, though cared for, does look appropriate for a car of this vintage. I have a stack of paperwork of the amount of money I have in the car, and my mechanic rents a room from me, so he can tell you about the long hours he's spent setting up the car, and I can tell you about the bills. -- So, I know what it costs to buy and own these cars. This is an original twin turbo, first year of a limited production, with a clean title, it is completely sound mechanically, it has the real transmission (lol @ automatics), and it comes with all the goodies. (Working automatic climate control? Yup.) WHY AM I SELLING? I have the title, but the previous owner didn't smog it. So, this car is stuck in smog limbo, meaning you cannot transfer the title until you smog the car (EDIT: NOT A PROBLEM IF YOU'RE OUT OF STATE). I did everything I could to get it to pass, but I couldn't, so I built the car to run a couple of times down the strip at the Speedway. Now I'm tired of this smog nonsense (I'm still trying to find a smog guy that'll hook me up...) and I want a car that I can street legally (EDIT: THE TAGS ARE STILL GOOD), something preferably pre-smog (like a 240z). (That's what I get for being new to California's smog laws). The first 11,000 takes the car. CAR SOLD AS-IS. NO WARRANTY. Test drive available with the cash in hand. Otherwise, I'll be the one driving. And yes, we can run it at Sacramento Speedway if it'll make you happy. You break it, you buy it. |

Total auto recalls already on record pace in 2014
Tue, 08 Apr 2014If you've noticed that there have been more recalls than usual this year, you may be on to something. According to a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the US market is on pace to break a record for recalls. In 2013, 22 million cars were recalled. We're only a third of the way through 2014, though, and we've already halved that figure, with 11 million units recalled. That's wild.
Considering the past few months, it shouldn't be a surprise that General Motors is leading the charge, with six million of the 11 million units recalled coming from one of the General's four brands. Between truck recalls, CUV recalls and the ignition switch recall, 2014 hasn't been a great year for GM.
Other recall leaders include Nissan (one million Sentra and Altima sedans), Honda (900,000 Odyssey minivans), Toyota (over one million units in a few recalls), Volkswagen (150,000 Passat sedans), Chrysler (644,000 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs) and most recently, Ford (434,000 units, the bulk of which were early Ford Escape CUVs). So while it's been a bad year for GM so far, its competitors aren't doing too well, either.
Is the Chevy Camaro Z/28 a Godzilla Slayer at the track?
Sat, 29 Mar 2014Godzilla. It's a name that strikes fear in the minds and hearts of giant monsters (Mothra!) worldwide, not to mention a number of automobile manufacturers that produce high-performance coupes... including Chevrolet. The Bowtie-cladded company has one rather obvious model that lines up squarely in the sights of the Nissan GT-R, that being the Corvette.
Interestingly, though, Chevy's halo coupe isn't the vehicle the boys from Motor Trend decided to match up at Barber Motorsports Park against the Japanese Godzilla, opting instead for the brand-new Camaro Z/28. A glance at the spec sheet of the Z/28 clears up any consternation regarding MT's choice - more horsepower for the Nissan, more torque for the Chevy and roughly the same weight means they are on pretty equal ground when it comes to what's under the hood.
The rest of the spec sheet looks to tilt the argument in the GT-R's favor (especially considering that MT's test car is a Track Edition model), as it boasts all-wheel-drive traction, a quick-shifting six-speed dual-clutch transmission and a price tag that's about $40,000 higher than that of the Z/28. Oh, and don't forget the GT-R's legendary computer-controlled reflexes. Does any of that matter with a professional race car driver like Randy Pobst behind the wheel? Scroll down and watch the video to find out.
Recharge Wrap-up: Big Oil fails at renewable fuel, scientists study air with EVs, plug-in Panamera sales
Thu, Jul 10 2014Big Oil companies help keep renewable fuels out of your tank, a new report shows. No surprise there, right? The Renewable Fuels Association published a report card grading the country's largest retail gasoline chains on fuel offerings like E85 and E15. The report gave failing grades, with less than one percent of stations offering E15 or E85, to "Big Five" companies Exxon, BP, ConocoPhillips, Chevron and Shell, among other oil company and convenience/grocery store brands. The only major oil companies that didn't get an "F" were Valero (D), Cenex (B), and Marathon (A-). The eight companies that scored an A+ had at least 25 percent of their stations offering E85 or E15. Read more at Domestic Fuel.Leicester scientists are studying local air pollution using EVs. Beginning July 4, University of Leicester researchers began driving electric vehicles kitted out with special sensors to monitor air quality throughout the city (similar to how California does it). Now their emissions-free daily driving duties double as data collection for their studies. "By monitoring air quality as a seamless part of our daily transport system, we are providing a cost-effective way to help inform future policy and operational systems," says the University's Dr. Roland Leigh. "There is no doubt electric cars are the future." – Nissan's Andy Palmer Nissan is exploring the idea of taking its Leaf EV to India, but a lack of charging options is an obstacle. According to Nissan's chief planning officer Andy Palmer, "There is no doubt electric cars are the future. The product is there, what we need is infrastructure. Charging is a big challenge." Though Nissan stopped short of saying it (this time), this could possibly mean working with Mahindra, which said it is open to collaborating with other companies concerning EVs. Learn more in this article from the Hindustan Times and know that India is rolling out a plan to encourage the production and adoption of EVs. The National Electric Mobility Mission Plan will get over $2 billion in funding, and some of that will go toward creating a charging infrastructure (you hear that, Nissan?). This is good news for EV manufacturers, India's economy and people who enjoy breathing clean air.
