1,400 Mitsubishi vehicles lost in shipping tragedy

A cargo ship carrying 1,400 Mitsubishi vehicles from Japan and Thailand collided with another vessel off the coast of Belgium and the Netherlands yesterday. The 485-foot Baltic Ace was carrying cars from Zeebrugge, Belgium to Kotka, Finland when it collided with the 439-foot Corvus J. While the Corvus J sustained damage during the incident, it is not in danger of sinking, and its 12-man crew is currently still on board.
The Baltic Ace, meanwhile, went under. Three ships from the Royal Dutch Sea Rescue Organization, two navy vessels, four helicopters and one coastguard aircraft spent the evening searching for survivors, but rough seas and high winds hampered the effort. Eighteen of the Baltic Ace's crew, including the captain, were rescued after being found in life rafts, but six remain missing. The search for survivors has officially been called off.
The collision occurred in one of the busiest shipping lanes in the North Sea, and the managers behind the Baltic Ace said they believed human error was to blame for the incident. Dutch police are currently looking into whether or not they can investigate the sinking despite the fact that the collision took place outside of the country's territorial waters.

Mitsubishi Evolution Final Edition goes out with a bang

The end of a long era - one we got to experience too little of - is just about at an end, and this car is its gravestone. The 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Final Edition is the last breath of ten generations of Lancer Evos, three of which came to the US. Mitsubishi launched a Final Edition Evo X in Japan earlier this year, after teasing a 473-horsepower concept at the Tokyo Auto Salon, now it's our turn. Built on the lower GSR trim, our model gets 303 hp, a bump of 12 hp, and torque goes up by five pound-feet to 305 lb-ft. The bigger modification is arguably the fitment of Bilstein shocks wrapped in Eibach springs all around, plus two-piece Brembo calipers on the front axle, all of which come standard on the upper-level MR trim. Dark chrome Enkei wheels match the dark chrome front grille surround. Like the grille, other changes for the Final Edition appear to be ornamental: black aluminum roof, black interior with red accent stitching, and special badging. Mitsubishi is putting 1,600 on sale here, each one with a numbered plaque just ahead of the shifter for the five-speed manual transmission. A second badge makes an appearance on the decklid. Final Edition Evos come in one of four colors, new Pearl White, Rally Red, Mercury Gray and Octane Blue, and cost $37,995. Mitsubishi says 2016 Outlander PHEV for US 'will be completely different'

While attending the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with Mitsubishi we got a chance to speak to three Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) executives about the Outlander PHEV, how the brand is strengthening its lineup and how it plans to promote that.
The Outlander PHEV that's quickly and quietly rolling off lots in Japan, Europe and Australia right now is not the same model we're going to get when it arrives in Fall 2015, with MMNA Executive Vice President Don Swearingen and US PR chief Alex Fedorak telling us that "it will be completely different." It can probably be viewed as the next-generation vehicle, part of the "major restyle in 2016" that will reskin the model in the new design language being applied to the brand's crossovers.
Its hybrid system is being tuned for more refinement, and the same work being done on the interior.
