2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport gets a mild makeover

While we wait for the upcoming Eclipse Cross and the Outlander Sport's smaller successor, Mitsubishi is doing everything it can to keep the current, aging Outlander Sport relevant. The latest move is a mild refresh inside and out. The company is also offering a new option package. All 2018 Outlander Sports receive slightly tweaked front and rear fascias. Up front, the most significant change is the addition of LED daytime running lights inset of each fog light. Just below them are new air inlets. The main grille with the Mitsubishi logo also now features two slim chrome bars. At the back, the rear bumper has a new faux skid plate in the center. On each flank are more angular reflectors. Inside, Mitsubishi says the center console and shift lever have been redesigned. More importantly, the Outlander Sport now has a 7-inch infotainment display that comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There's also a new Touring Package option. It adds a panoramic sunroof, some tweaks to make the car quieter and more refined, and safety features including forward collision mitigation, land departure warning, automatic high beam headlights, and a rear camera. The updated Outlander Sport will arrive at dealers this fall, but pricing has yet to be announced. Related Video:

Mitsubishi to showcase eX crossover concept in Tokyo

The Tokyo Motor Show is coming up at the end of the month, and Mitsubishi isn't about to sit it out. That's where the Diamond Star automaker will unveil the eX Concept pictured here. The electric crossover concept packs what the company terms as a "next-generation EV system" into what looks at first blush like a rather dramatic design. Mitsubishi is telling us next to nothing about the eX and its specifications. However, it indicates that the concept incorporates an all-electric powertrain, all-wheel drive, an automated driving system, vehicle connectivity, and active safety systems. The automaker has also only revealed the one rendering above, but it bears all the hallmarks of a modern Mitsubishi concept like the ones we've seen in recent years. That includes the company's signature Diamond Shield front grille, flanked by narrow, angular headlights and oversized running lamps. Naturally, this concept rides on oversized wheels and boasts spindly little mirrors, all in an effort to tell us this is a bonafide show car and not a pre-production prototype. 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander has fresh design and a bump in refinement

Mitsubishi hopes to have the delivered the big finish to this year's New York Auto Show, with its new midsize, three-row Outlander. The company seems oddly emphatic in pointing out that the SUV is "not just a cosmetic 'refreshing'" at the top of its press release; we thinks you doth protest too much, Mitsu. The real freshness starts with the exterior styling, which is said to break ground on a new design language for the brand. The half-chrome, half-blacked out front fascia is certainly the most eye-catching part of the SUV, though taut, conservative details make up the rest. We don't expect a lot of love-it / hate-it comments based on this Mitsubishi (though you guys do surprise us sometimes). But however the company may draw attention to the "over 100 engineering and design improvements" made to the SUV, what's under the hood feels familiar. No mention is made of the 2016 engine lineup, so we expect the 2.4-liter four and 3.0-liter V6 to carryover unchanged from last year. There is a new CVT, however, said to come with improvements to acceleration and "shift feel." Other updates include a more composed chassis, rigid body structure and improved levels of NVH thanks to sound insolation and noise-deadening glass.
