Camaro Z/28 and Mitsubishi Starion meet in this nostalgic vision of '87 Japan

The '80s is just far enough away now that it no longer seems like an era defined by Reagonomics and neon clothing. Filmmaker Matt Clark has embraced the look of the music videos of the decade in his new short film titled Orange Orchid, set in 1987 in Chiba and Yokohama, Japan. The video features some great sports coupes of the time and is set to the song I Know There's Something Going On from Abba-alum Frida (along with drumming and backup vocals from Phil Collins).
Clark really embraces the pop-culture look of the era's videos with big hair, a healthy dash of neon, inexplicable smoky rooms and big, over-wrought movements. However, the real stars for us are the pair of '80s sports coupes that also kind of personify the main characters. Nijo in her denim jacket has a modded Camaro Z/28 with huge, dished wheels sticking way out past the fenders. Naturally, the Chevy also features some great butterscotch paint and a car phone inside. Alex, the guy pursuing her, forgoes any obvious upgrades in favor a clean, all-white Mitsubishi Starion to go along with his tailored suit and giant cell phone.
We wish this video featured the cars a bit more prominently, but that drumbeat from Collins on this forgotten 80s gem is pretty fantastic, too. Give it a listen in the video.

2017 Mitsubishi Mirage gets updated styling and equipment

There's a brand-new Mirage, you guys. For the 2017 model year, the budget-friendly little hatchback features updated styling and equipment inside and out. And it still promises to be one of the cheapest cars on the market. The changes start on the outside, where the 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage greets the world with a new hood, grille, bumpers, lighting, wheels, and rear spoiler. The updates continue inside, where you'll find new fabrics, instruments, and controls. New options include a Rockford-Fosgate audio system and – for the first time in a Mitsu – Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The 1.2-liter inline-three carries over, but with a new camshaft to produce 78 horsepower and 74 pound-feet of torque. Modest as those figures are, power is up by four horses for the new model year. The front brake discs are larger, as are the rear drums. And the suspension has been retuned as well. Mitsubishi hasn't announced pricing for the updated Mirage. We'd expect a small bump in price to accompany the upgrades, but the Japanese automaker would be wise not to veer to far north of the current model's $12,995 sticker price. Because while it may be one of the cheapest new cars available, alternatives like the Nissan Versa, Chevy Spark, and Kia Rio all hover in the same territory. Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Concept-S shows what a facelift can do [w/video]

Sometimes you need a second chance to get things right. Technologically, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is a pretty cool vehicle, with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder and additional electric motors providing more thrust. However, the CUV never really looked the part for all of its innovation. The Mitsubishi designers are taking another crack with the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Concept-S at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, and the vehicle shows what a massive improvement some tweaks can make.
The most obvious of these changes is the completely different front end with a more vertical design. The headlights are reshaped with LED running lights outlining them, and the new airdam that puts a massive X right on the front grille in black and chrome with some more LEDs down below. The designers don't stop there and have a major revision to the rear with taillights running all the way across. Inside, there's black wood grain trim and leather seats.
The update takes the CUV from boring to somewhat exciting, and the even better news is that some of these updates might make it to a rumored refresh in 2016 that could even come here.
