A 2003 Mini Cooper S that I bought new. This car has been serviced regularly since new and driven primarily by me or my son.  This car is excellent except for the engine. In a short story, the oil sump for the supercharger developed a leak that was not detected in time. I have never heard of such a design, but here you have it. i thought ALL superchargers got their oil lubrication from the main sump, but sadly this is not so with this car. The long and short of it is that the engine has ingested some of the supercharger bits into the combustion chamber and it makes noises.  It does start and run, but I'm sure there is internal damage in the upper cylinders and will need a rebuild. If I could find a good used engine, I would keep the car, but I cannot.

The rest in a nutshell is that it has 88K miles on it and everything works as it should. cold A/C, good radio, good optional wheels and tires in good shape., A couple of the wheels do have some minor curb rash that is appropriate for its miles and use. A great body with only a couple of dings. the interior is good and has no cuts or tears. no rust at all and the car  has never been crashed or bent. All original books and records are included. it has been garaged for most of its life.
The windshield does have a crack in it, and the clutch slave cylinder is missing as someone from the storage company stole it while awaiting us to pick it up. The car can be seen at my shop in Marietta Ga most anytime by calling me in advance. Bob W. 404 731 4580. I can provide free delivery between Atlanta and Indianapolis as i  have space in my trailer enroute  to the Mecum auction on May 12 or 13th.

BMW i3s traction control tech going in all BMW, Mini cars

Wed, Jan 3 2018

The BMW i3s is essentially a warmed-up version of the i3 electric car we all know and love. The performance boost isn't huge — just 14 horsepower and 15 pound-feet of torque — but it also gets a new suspension, wheels and tires as well as an improved traction control system. We found the car to benefit from all the updates when we drove it for our First Drive Review, but now BMW has offered up more details on just how the traction control system of the i3s helps make it better to drive. The company says it'll expand the technology to all future BMW and Mini models as well. The i3s's system is calibrated to help it to pull away quickly from a stop, making full use of the instantaneous torque offered by the electric motor. It also improves stability when accelerating out of corners, when using regenerative braking and, of course, when the road conditions are less than ideal. The results are palpable, and with the other improvements the i3s definitely feels stronger off the line, as we found on our drive. It's also about a half-second quicker to 60 miles per hour, at 6.8 seconds. The secret is in the response time of the stability control, which BMW claims is 50 times faster than the conventional system. This is made possible by moving the control process into the powertrain itself, rather than a remote unit. This reduces the signal path and, thus, the response time of the traction control system. BMW's Head of Chassis Development, Peter Langen, said of it, "With their high levels of torque and instantaneous responses to every movement of the accelerator, electric motors already make significantly higher demands on driving stability systems than conventional power units." While engineered to make the most of the electric motor, BMW says the shorter cycles of this traction control system show promise for internal combustion vehicles as well. As such, we'll begin to see the improved technology applied across the BMW and Mini lineups going forward. Related Video:

2014 Mini John Cooper Works GP

Fri, 16 Nov 2012

About three weeks prior to this brief yet balls-to-the-wall drive on the Spanish island of Mallorca, I saw that Mini USA announced pricing for the keenly anticipated Mini John Copper Works GP. And that number would be - *a-hem* - $39,950 for starters.
I am always intent upon finding the pinnacle of what a certain car promises me, and almost at any cost. Almost. When I think "steaming hatchback," I think of something exactly like this Mini GP, and the steep price doesn't squelch my pleasure. They're only building 2,000 of them anyway, and the units coming to the US will start arriving in owners' hands on March 16 of next year. These buyers will be extremely happy and remorse-free.
Five scorched laps at the very Mini-perfect Circuito Mallorca RennArena showed me all.

BMW, Mini aim to sell million cars off new FWD platform

Mon, 22 Jul 2013

Mini sold 301,526 cars in 2012; BMW sold 1.54 million of its own models. According to a piece in Autocar, analysts say the coming UKL1 platform that will form the skeleton of the third-generation Mini Cooper and coming front-wheel drive BMW 1 Series could be responsible for "more than 900,000 cars per year" all by itself.
That sale fire is fueled by the UKL1 wearing up to twenty-three bodies in total between the two brands, 11 for Mini and 12 for BMW, rendering hatchbacks, sedans, coupes, convertibles, wagons, crossovers and people-haulers from about 12.5 feet to 14.5 feet. In April the VP of Mini USA said we might find some current models don't make it to a next generation, but a graphic accompanying the Autocar story has them all there. If it's correct, then those 23 models will only base model lines and don't account for different engines and four-wheel-drive options for each model.
The big changes that would perhaps mean big sales for the Mini line are a five-door hatch with two smaller rear doors for children, the sedan talked about last year for Asian markets and an MPV perhaps wearing the "Traveler" name that could send the Countryman in a more SUV-like direction.
